We are celebrating the beautiful new church sign
at the entrance to the church parking lot. This
attractive new sign will also allow us to post
inspirational and invitational messages on the
digital screen. The cost of the purchase and
installation of the new sign is approximately
$20,000. This project has been paid for with
generous gifts designated to the church sign fund
and the property enhancement fund, along with a
$5,000 gift from the Memorial Fund and a $1,000
gift from the Creative Ministries Fund of the Synod
of Southwestern Ontario. Thank-you to all who
supported this key project with financial gifts and a
special word of appreciation to Bob Taylor and all
the members of our Property Management
Committee for overseeing this project. We hope
you enjoy the new church sign.

October 16 is World Food Day
Across the globe, small-scale farmers are suffering
the effects of climate change. Prolonged drought,
erratic rainfall and a growing rate of weather related
disasters are also taking their toll. In Ethiopia,
Meserete Jima’s crops were obliterated in the wake
of a powerful El Niño phenomenon sweeping
southern Africa. “I’m very concerned about my
family’s future,” admits Meserete. In times of
disaster, Presbyterian World Service &
Development responds with food assistance to
sustain families until they can plant again. The
rations Meserete received with support from
Canadian Foodgrains Bank are vital to her family’s
well-being. On World Food Day, we reflect on the
global struggle against hunger and the need to
address climate change to ensure food security for
all. PWS&D provides food assistance for
communities in need.

Speaking of Stewardship True generosity is an offering; given freely and out
of pure love. No strings attached. No expectations. Suze Orman, author, financial advisor, motivational
speaker and television host

LIBRARY NEWS
A Mile in my Flip-Flops
by Melody Carlson
If anyone enjoys watching HGTV, watching renovation shows and dream about
‘what I’d do some day’. Well, this book is for you!
Gretchen has been jilted by her fiancé, so she stops dreaming and jumps in with both feet. Flipping a
house is no minor renovation but with her retired contractor father, she believes she can do it. Of
course things never go quite the way we plan. There are bumps along Gretchen’s road, many of
them will make you giggle out loud.
Enjoy this light-hearted read about trusting God
with everything we take on. Lizz Thibodeau ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chalmers presents ‘An Evening of Musical
Prayer & Messiah Choruses’ with the South
Huron Community Adult Choir on Thursday,

“What personal qualities are important in an elder?
“An elder must be a professing member of the
congregation and must be an example to the
believers in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity”
(1 Timothy 4:12).” Book of Forms, Section 106.1
Any person who is a member of the church and who
seeks to grow in Christian faith might be a
suitable elder. An elder is not expected to be
perfect, to have an unswerving faith, to have all the
answers, or to be elderly in age! An elder receives
training, learns from other elders, and grows as a
Christian in the role.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF ELDERS Only professing members of the congregation may
nominate and be nominated. Chalmers is using the
model of term service for elders. Elders are
ordained for life but serve for a term of six years,
although they may stand for re-election following
their six-year term. Elders who have completed
their term of service are eligible to be nominated.
Responding to Hurricane
Matthew
Credit: ACT Alliance/Church World Service
Hurricane Matthew has struck Haiti leaving
devastation in its wake. With the death toll
topping 1,000 and entire communities
destroyed, the United Nations estimates that 1.4
million people are in need of immediate
humanitarian assistance. PWS&D will be
responding through our local partners and the
ACT Alliance.
Immediate assistance in the form of food,
emergency non-food items, shelter, and water
and sanitation services will be provided by the
ACT Alliance in Haiti. Affected communities
in Cuba and the Dominican Republic are also
receiving assistance through the ACT Alliance.
We will update this page as soon as more
information is available. In the meantime, we
are welcoming donations in support of
communities affected by Hurricane Matthew.
To contribute to relief efforts, you can make a
donation to PWS&D through your church, by
mailing a cheque to the office, donating online
or calling 1-800-619-7301 x291. Please mark
all donations “Hurricane Matthew.” Please
give today.
Please continue praying with us for all of the
people and communities directly affected by
Hurricane Matthew.
