    CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER !6

Every week we interview CESL students. If you are willing to be interviewed, talk to the Student Activities Assistants in the SLC (CESL 212).

    STUDENT SPOTLIGHT!

Name: Ibraheem Alabdulelah Country: Aljahra, Kuwait Level: 7 (already accepted to U of A)

What is your favorite memory of CESL? My favorite memory of CESL is when I used to play chess with DJ. In the beginning he used to beat me and I dont like for someone to beat me in a game I like. So, I kept trying until I defeated him many times. No one believes that actually happened but what I heard and what I saw was the truth.

I heard that you got accepted to the U of A? How do you feel about this accomplishment? I feel extremely happy and I cannot express my happiness. I want to spend as much time as possible here to play chess before going to the U of A.

What is your favorite genre of music? My favorite genre is Arabic nomadic music because I like it and am obsessed with that type of music.

What is the best life lesson you have received? The best life lesson that I have learned in life is that if you rush things in life, you will eventually regret it.

Werent you supposed to leave for Kuwait today? What happened? I wasnt in the mood to leave today, so I called Expedia and asked if I can change my flight date and they said yes. I was asking myself at that moment if I should change it or not. When she put me on hold, I felt bad that I let her search for another flight for me, so eventually I agreed to change it just for her hard work.

What makes you happy in life? Seeing a smile and my father and mothers faces and having fun with my twin brother. Otherwise I am not truly happy.

What is one country you want to go to that youve never been? I want to visit Yemen because I think they are happier than other people.

Is there anything you would like to say to CESL? I want to thank all the teachers and student workers here who helped me reach this point by helping me study and have fun at the same time. And I had nice conversations with everyone. Students should talk more with the student workers even if they are shy in order to improve their English skills.

    CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER !7

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name: Noura Hometown: Fintas, Kuwait Level: Academic Bridge Program (ABP)

Should we talk about something serious or fun? Fun. Fun is always better.

How would you describe a fun day? Lots of music. Friends all day. Doing something unexpected. Like "you want to go there?" Okay, let's go.

What are some experiences from those spontaneous decisions? Yesterday, we went to Toys R Us. I don't know why we chose it, but we did. Or sometimes when it rains, we don't go out. We just stay in. Also fun are sleepovers at my cousin's house.

Why would you say fun is important? It helps you to lose or get rid of stress. Everyone has a moment where they start to get depressed. So, it's fun to forget about these problems and relax. And then you have to actually face your problems, but the fun helps you.

So what are solutions to the problems you experience? Some problems, there's no solution but time. So sometimes you have to have fun all of the time while you wait.

What kind of things are you waiting for? Like now? I'm waiting for the endorsement results, so I'm having fun.

You talked about music, is that helping? I guess, I'm still alive.

What's the kind of music that helps you? Old music. My favorite is Breaking Benjamin. It's rock.

When you listen to it, what do you experience? I feel like I'm at a rock concert. I sing. The music says what I don't know how to say.

How does music make you feel? It changes my mood. Sad songs take out all of my feelings. Happy songs make me feel better. And then singing at home makes me feel SO much better. I go on to YouTube and just sing.

Why is singing so special to you? It gets my feelings out. If you tell someone about your emotions, they might understand. But people will feel your emotions if you sing them. People can see your feelings more easily in a painful song. Or see your joy in a happy song.

Thanks so much for talking. Any messages to CESL? Take it seriously, please.

    Ask CESL

What public transportation is available in Tucson?

The public transportation options in Tucson are the Sun Tran and the Sun Link. The Sun Tran is the citys public bus system, and can get you most places you need to go in Tucson; however, you may need to transfer from one bus route to another at some point. If you need to get to the outskirts of town, the Sun Tran Express might take you there for a higher rate. The Sun Link is the citys electric streetcar. Because the Streetcar travels on rails, it follows the same route each trip, though it does travel in both directions.

How much does it cost to ride the Sun Tran or Sun Link?

A single ride on the Sun Tran costs $1.50. It is important to bring exact change because the bus drivers cannot provide change for you. That means if you give the bus driver $20, you paid $20 for your ride. If you would like to ride the Sun Link, a day pass is available for $4. This will allow you to ride the Sun Link as many times as youd like within a 24 hour period. If you would like to purchase a single ride, you must buy a reloadable smart card. The card itself costs $2, and each additional pass costs $1.75. Reloadable cards may be used on either the Sun Tran or the Sun Link.

Is there a way to save money on tickets?

If you think you will be riding the Sun Tran or Sun Link frequently, you may want to purchase a semester pass, or a rolling 30 individual day pass. These passes offer unlimited rides during the specified time period. UA students, including CESL students, can purchase these passes for half price from Parking and Transportation Services. These passes are called U-Pass, but function the same as other passes, only cheaper.

How much does a U-Pass cost?

A rolling 30 day U-Pass costs $42. A semester pass costs $63 and an annual pass costs $183.

    Where can I get a U-Pass?

You can purchase a U-Pass from the Parking and Transportation office at 1117 East 6th Street. Bring your CatCard AND your CESL ID card.

What happens if my U-Pass is lost or stolen?

Sun Tran will transfer the remaining balance from your missing card onto a new one if you have registered your pass. You will have to pay $2 for a new card. You can register your pass at: https://www.suntran.com/sungo/welcome.html
