To make our global outreach efforts even stronger, we have been working to better educate members, non-members, and the public on the differences and similarities between ASCP and ASCP i certification. We have also been promoting ASCP BOC international certification in Thailand and India and creating new ONELab groups that will help students prepare for their certification examination. We are witnessing a significant increase in the number of international certificants. Recent data shows a 47-percent increase in the number of ASCP i applications over the past 12 months. In addition, as of June 2016, there have been nearly 10,000 first time ASCP i examinees since ASCP i started in 2006. Welcome to the August 2016 edition of the International Certification Newsletter.
To make our global outreach efforts even stronger, we have been working to better educate members, non-members, and the public on the differences and similarities between ASCP and ASCPi certification. We have also been promoting ASCP BOC international certification in Thailand and India and creating new ONELab groups that will help students prepare for their certification examination.
We are witnessing a significant increase in the number of international certificants. Recent data shows a 47-percent increase in the number of ASCPi applications over the past 12 months. In addition, as of June 2016, there have been nearly 10,000 first time ASCPi examinees since ASCPi started in 2006.
Clearly, the international demand for ASCPi con-tinues to expand at a rate never imagined when the program first started. We hope you will enjoy reading about our efforts in this edition of the International Certification Newsletter.

From June 1-3, the ASCP BOC Thailand Advisory Board supported an ASCP BOC exhibit booth at the 40th Annual Conference of Medical Technologists of Thailand (ACMTT). The conference was held in conjunction with the 16th ASEAN Conference of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ACCLS) at the Ambassador City Jomtein Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand. Under the theme, Health and Well Being in the
21st Century, conference sessions included a diverse array of topics from utilizing laboratory systems as a matter of global health security to flow cytometry. During the event, Thailand Advisory Board members distributed information on ASCPi in the Thai language. Palanee Ammaranond, Chair of the Thailand Advisory Board, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on ASCPi certification.
The 2nd National Allied Health Professionals Conference (AHPCON-2016) of the Joint Forum of Medical Technologists of India (JFMTI) took place Feb. 22-23 in New Delhi.
The BOC Study Hall is an open group for students preparing to take BOC certification examinations. This group is the place for students to share study tips, post questions, discuss topics, and get support from their peers. They can also test their knowledge with the Question of the Week.
The Board of Certification Board of Governors met in Miami on April 15–16. The Board took the following action:
For those individuals whose credentials have lapsed, the reinstatement fee has increased to $125, effective July 1, 2016. This fee must be paid in addition to the declaration fee of $95.
If you need to locate your certification number, you may access it by logging into your record, scrolling down, and clicking on: “BOC Activities” ICON. Then click on the “View Certifications” link. If you require primary source verification of your certification, this information is available at Verification of Certification. There is a $16 charge for this service.

More than 850 delegates, students, and faculty attended the conference. ASCP BOC was represented at the event by Brijesh Kohli, Regional Representative for India, and Dionysis Vourtsis, Chair of the Greece Advisory Board and Regional Representative for Europe. The theme of conference was Proposed Regulatory Framework and Future Roadmap for Revamping of Allied Health Professions Under NIAHS (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India Initiative).
More than 100 scientific papers including poster and plenary presentations were presented during the conference. During the event, Mr. Vourtsis gave a presentation on International Biomedical Laboratory Science in the 21st Century, ASCP BOC certification, and medical laboratory scientist education. Mr. Vourtsis said, “The profession in India is evolving as the Indian government is now focusing on professional development and medical laboratory accreditation.”

Students living outside of the United States and Canada should be sure to include their complete addresses on the application form. It is important to indicate the full street address, city, province/state, and name of the country. Although communication during the application
process is handled by email, the official certificate must be delivered by U.S. mail. It is important that the address be as complete as possible and that any address changes are sent directly to [email protected].
