Welcome NYE Dolphins to the 2015-2016 school year! My name is Julissa Hilda

Rivera and I am happy to be serving as this year's PTA president. The last sever-

al years, I have been thrilled to serve and chair for the N.Y.E P.T.A and I am

honored to be overseeing all of the PTA activities this year!

Every year the PTA board selects a theme for the year and this year the theme

is Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M). This theme will be present in

our monthly newsletters and will serve as the base for our unified and success-

ful school year! It's such an important message because it's through teams that

together we DO achieve more!

Additionally, this year your PTA board will strive for even greater success and

the only way to do that is to achieve the maximum amount of parent participa-

tion as possible! There are many opportunities available to help serve your PTA

and children so please contact [email protected] to inquire. Additional areas

of immediate need include Dolphin Depot, Bakers R Us, Health & Wellness, Ed-

ucational Enrichment, Fall Fest and Dolphin Mascot appearances (teens need-

ing volunteer hours are encouraged to sign up!)

In closing, I look forward to working with you throughout this year! Please find

Curriculum Night Reminder-Wednesday, September 16 Parent Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 16. Curriculum Night is a Parent Information Night in which teachers discuss and review curricular expectations and procedures for your child’s classroom. On Curriculum Night parents will go directly to their child’s classroom. The information that is shared during this event is not developed to engage children. For this reason, we ask that you make arrangements for your children so that you can thoroughly listen and participate in this event without distraction. Please note that child care is not available and the LMC will be closed.

PTA: During Curriculum Night, the PTA will be located in the MPR. Please take a few minutes to stop by. The PTA will be available to answer questions, sign up parent volunteers, sell Young spirit wear, and take membership applications. Please stop by to visit the PTA before, after, or in between sessions.

PARKING on Curriculum Night: Handicapped parking is available in the front circle drive. Please do not block these spaces. Also, please note there is no parking permitted where a red curb is painted. Fire lanes, walk ways and sidewalks should not be obstructed for safety reasons.

Mr. Maldonado’s Watch DOGS Memo



Hello families- This is Mr. Maldonado and we're glad to get the year off to a bright start. The year is about to get a whole lot brighter for our students because an exciting opportunity to have dads involved in school called WATCH D.O.G.S.® is coming to Nancy Young! WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative school program, currently in 4700 schools across the United States, which helps schools to be positively impacted by the involvement of fathers and father-figures in their students’ lives. Our goal is to have dads or other father-figures spend at least one day each semester this year at Nancy Young to be a positive male role model. As a father, I have been involved in this program in my daugh-ter's school and the turn-out and response has been overwhelming. A kick-off pizza registration event about the WATCH D.O.G.S. program will be held on September 28 at 6:00 pm at Young School and an RSVP save the date form is located on our school website under the WATCH D.O.G.S.® tab. I will also be available for questions in the LMC during curriculum night on the evening of September 16. Reminder! We are collecting Box Tops for education coupons which are worth .10

per coupon. Valid Box Tops have the logo displayed below and must not be expired!

Children who collect one a day for the month of September and bring it in to Mr.

Maldonado will be awarded a prize at the end of the month for collecting Box Tops

for the month!

PTA ART AWARENESS SIGN-UP FORM 2015-2016

If you would like to volunteer for Art Awareness in your child’s classroom for the 2015-2016 school year, please fill out this

Art Awareness is a wonderful program that allows parent volunteers to present different artists and their works to a class

during the school year. A presentation and project takes approximately 45 minutes and all materials are provided. An infor-mational meeting will be held for all parents interested in participating.

Room parents may also volunteer to help with Publishing Center. Publishing Center offers parents the chance to come in and

work with students as they publish their own books.

Skate Night is Back!

6-8 pm

Cost is $6 per person and will be collected at the door. All students must be accompanied by supervising adult.

Your TEACHERS are FREE so invite them to JOIN in on the FUN!
