CE 382 – Structural Analysis Homework Assignment #2

Calculate the support reactions for the given structures. Solve the beam structure problem; second problem on the following page, using the RISA 2D program or any other structural analysis software at your disposal. (Each problem is worth four points; computer analysis is worth two points.)

NOTE: Structural analysis programs require material data input. If there is no such data with your problem, simply assume the following values:

E = 200 kN/mm2

A = 2000 mm2 Metric units

I = 4 x 108 mm4 = 4e8 mm4

E = 30000 ksi

A = 10 in2 English units

I = 500 in4

As you have previously learned, the material properties do not influence force or moment results for statically determinate structures. However, they do have a pronounced influence on the displacement and rotation results. Feel free to try other nonzero material property values to verify this fact.
