services (draft charter Nov 2010)Working Group Status:• IAWG developed top down registry reference model & prototypes, info model & services

interfaces, IPR WG developed bottom up XML registry & prototypes to be coordinated in joint meetings, IPR not present for these working meetings

• Extensive discussion on the Registry Reference Model Magenta Book, derived from ebXML (White) and Information Services Architecture recommended practice (White); expect Registry Reference Model Red Book for review Dec 2010

• Presentations were given in the SM&C WG and RASIG meetings. Agree to do joint prototyping of SM&C Directory Service using ISA Registry framework.

• Revised charter for Information Services Architecture WG has been drafted• Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Status:• Magenta Book: second Agency review completed, 30 RIDs resolved, sent MB to AD for

publication in Fall 2010. • Delta-DOR Raw Data Exchange Format (DRDEF) Blue Book draft (Red-1): AD issues were

resolved. Book to be submitted for CESG Review by Nov 2010, complete agency review of Red-1 by Feb 2011.

• Schedule for the Green Book has been pushed to Spring 2011• Good progress on early & near term 3 agency interoperability validation, all three agencies

committed to doing interoperability testing, YB test report being planned• WG reports that not having NASA rep for face to face meetings hampered progress (budget

issues)

5. Time Correlation & Synchronization BoFGoals: • Develop outline for White Paper and requirements for time correlation

and synchronization standards • Develop WG charterBoF Status:• BOF met on Wednesday afternoon with limited attendance (Greenberg

(JPL), Pitts (MSFC), Sank (GSFC), Enrich (ESA), Gracher (FSA)) .• Discussed requirements, priorities, and agency interests

• ESA’s main objective is a Magenta Book identifying best practices for time correlation with current standards

• NASA is interested in advocating methods to achieve much more accurate time correlations for space missions.

• NASA has a long term goal of establishing a standard for synchronization of the clocks on vehicles within a remote operational network.

• Agree to start with the Time Correlation Magenta Book and to advocate for higher accuracy time stamp with other groups, then assess requirements for time correlation and synchronization

• Draft charter has been sent to AD to be forwarded to CESG

6. SANA OperationsGoals: • Operate the Space Assigned Numbers Authority (SANA) Operations Status:• SANA operator in place, met this week with several WGs, created web site

including a set of candidate registries based on existing CCSDS documents• Draft Yellow Book procedure CCSDS 313.0-Y-0.1 sent for final CESG review

• Requests new “SANA Considerations” section and WG interaction on registry items

• Draft “candidate registries” need to reviewed by WGs, simple procedure developed for handling “grandfathered” registries already documented

D. Cross Area Meetings• Joint IA/IPR Meeting

• No meeting held, MOIMS IPR not present for meetings• Propose combining all interested participants into new ISA WG that is being

chartered, MOIMS AD has stated no objection

• Joint SM&C / IA Meeting• Present the space Information Services Architecture (ISA) reference model, the

registry service architecture and its relationship to the rest of the CCSDS services• Discussed the relationship between the SM&C “directory service” and the ISA

framework• Agreed to coordinate with SM&C

- To demonstrate implementation of the SM&C Directory service using the ISA Registry reference model and prototype implementation

- To evaluate the SM&C MAL as a possible messaging layer for ISA, along with HTTP

• Sec WG / SDLS Meeting• Joint meeting was productive and work is largely on track• Have identified no “show-stopper” from security point of view with how and

where the security block is to be inserted in the space link frames• Details reported by SDLS WG chair in SLS report• Will require resources for interoperability testing …

• SEA / CSS Reference Architecture SIG• Relationship between CCSDS Reference Architecture and RASDS and ISA

seems to now be quite well understood and agreed• There is agreement on a reference architecture framework consisting of

the RASDS Viewpoints (Enterprise, Functional, Connectivity, Communications, Information), with an added Service Viewpoint ala the Cross Support Services Architecture (also used in IOAG SISG efforts) and some expansion of the Information Viewpoint ala the RASIM

• Growing recognition that there is a need for the sort of UML or SysML architecture modelling framework that was halted in the earlier RASDS work

• SEA recommends adopting a streamlined approach that focuses immediately on two items:1. Revisit the RASDS and quickly develop the conceptual framework for

modeling the Service Viewpoint and the extended Information Viewpoint2. Work with the ESA modeling team to refine the set of viewpoint

specifications that they apply to the ExoMars modeling effort, which is intended to verify the framework and provide useful models of ExoMars

cesg-17

SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AREA:ITEMS TO BE BROUGHT TO CMC ATTENTION

1. CCSDS Procedures update• Out for final CMC review, needs badly to be published

2. SANA Considerations• The SANA YB requests that the CCSDS Procedures & Publications manuals be updated to

reference a mandatory “SANA Considerations” section, to be discussed• SANA asks that the CMC appoint at least two other members to the SANA Steering Group to

ensure stakeholder & agency balance• SANA Operator has created candidate registries, including a CCSDS Glossary, need to have these

reviewed by Areas & WGs and approved for release (or not)• All new WG projects should analyze SANA issues as part of their process, and ensure that they

address them, potentially with support of the SANA operator3. SEA IA and MOIMS IPR WGs

• Working groups have been operating increasingly well as a joint effort for a few years now• SEA AD recommends that these two groups be re-organized into one, with a new charter that is

focused on the Information Services Architecture and also incorporates the present registry-repository and information modeling and architecture tasks

• A new ISA WG charter has been drafted and is being finalized4. Words of appreciation

• The SEA wishes to thank the workshop organizers for doing an excellent job of arranging the facility, and managing meetings rooms

Quoted from Procedures Manual, A02.1-Y-2.1a

• 1.4.2 b) Consensus. • The entire CCSDS technical organization is run by a

process of consensus, and it is the CESG that decides if the standardization process has come up with a result that reflects a real consensus.

• Consensus does not necessarily mean that unanimous agreement has been reached, but that the result incorporates the best set of compromises that all parties can agree to.

• 1.4.3 CESG Responsibilities• h) reviewing requests from ADs to advance

specifications in their Areas along the various document tracks, and making consensus recommendations to the CMC when it feels that documents and related materials are ready for publication as CCSDS products, in their various interim and final stages of maturity;
