2. LOCATION

The City of San Carlos is located at the Northeast part of Negros Island, 123°23’65" longitude and 10°25’15" latitude, bounded on the North by the Municipality of Calatrava, on the West by the Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto and the City of Bago, on the South by Municipality of Vallehermoso (Negros Oriental) and the City of Canla-on, and the East by Tañon Strait.

3.4 Topography/Elevation

The city has a total land area of 45,150.0000 hectares or 451.50 square kilometers. It consists mainly of sloping to

rolling lands ranging from 0-18 percent comprising about 18.77 percent of the total land area or 8,473.9300 hectares of land.

The northern part of the City is dominantly moderate to rolling slopes ranging from 18-30 percent and comprising about 27.85 percent or 12,575.0000 hectares of land. There are also steep areas with slope distribution from 30-50 percent, which

constitutes 20.82 percent or 9,400.0000 hectares. The remaining 32.56 percent are slopes with distribution above 50 percent.

The city has an estimated coastline stretch of about 21 kilometers starting from Talave coastline of Brgy. Punao and ending

Brgy. Buluangan coastline bordering the Province of Negros Occidental from the Oriental side of Negros.

3.5 Climate

There are basically two (2) pronounced seasons in the area, the wet and dry season which determine the agricultural activity patterns i.e. harvest time for crops. The dry season begins in December and extends until early May while the wet

season starts in June climaxing in September, and finally ending in October.

3.6 Rivers/Water Resources

There are eight (8) major rivers in the City. These are the Talave, Palampas, Andoon, Gigalman, Mainit, Katingal-

an, Sta. Cruz and Buluangan Rivers. The Talave and Palampas rivers and their tributaries emanate from the western slopes of the forest reserve area and drain to Tañon Strait. The Sta. Cruz and Bulungan rivers originate from the western slope of

Mt. Kanlaon and also drain towards Tañon Strait. Flood prone areas usually line the riverbanks.
