Welcome, Fr. Praveen! New Year’s Celebration Thank You for an Amazing Christmas!

PASTOR’S NOTEEvery year, the Sunday immediately following Christmas is the Feast of the Holy Family. We remember today that Jesus was raised in a setting like most of us, with mother and father looking over Him and educating Him and training Him in the ways of their faith. In His case, they learned early on that His understanding of the faith was quite strong and developed (as per the ”Finding in the Temple”). But they provided an atmosphere that cared for and nurtured Him throughout His early years.
This past fall, Pope Francis was in Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families. It gave him an opportunity to again affirm our faith’s great appreciation for and support of the family as the first teachers of the faith and as the school that best prepares one to be a good, virtuous member of society. When families are in peril, it soon is reflected in societies that begin to show the results of that strain.
When I was in Catholic grade school, the sisters and other teachers often encouraged us to put the letters “J. M. J.” at the top of our papers and homework. It was an ever present reminder to seek out the intercession of the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in all we are about, including our daily labors. That is not a bad habit to keep up. Not necessarily in placing the initials on things, but in praying regularly
to the Holy Family to look over, guard and protect our families and guide us always in good and holy ways.
I want to extend a special thank you to the many who helped make our Christmas celebrations so wonderful and prayerful. To the staff, volunteers and the many parishioners who did everything from scheduling the individuals who helped, to helping create music that carried us into prayer, to the folks who went to some length to welcome and bless the many visitors who joined us, and on and on. God bless you all for your witness of Christian virtue and kindness! And since we know that this season just began on the 25th and goes on for 12 days, I can still say to you all: MERRY CHRISTMAS!
– Msgr. Tom
