Gift of Life
A baby is a gift of life, born of the wonder of love.
A little bit of eternity sent from the Father above.
Giving a new dimension to the love between
husband and wife,
And putting an added new meaning to the wonder and
mystery of life!
~ Helen Steiner Rice
This Christmas, may our joy be found in giving our heart to
Him - the One who gave His all to us.
Knights of Columbus
Thank you to all the parishioners who purchase Grocery Cards each
month to support the Grocery Card Program. We were able to donate
another $10,000.00 to the New Parish Centre! We are also happy to
say we have fulfilled our pledge of $304,000.00. We were able to
present Fr. Larry with the cheque on the Third Sunday of Advent.
Stewardship Reflection
December 24th - Fourth Sunday of Advent
In today’s Gospel reading we hear proclaimed the story of
the Annunciation, when the Angel of the Lord announced to
Mary that she would give birth to Christ through the inter-
cession of the Holy Spirit. Mary allowed God’s messenger
to speak to her. She was attentive, not afraid to enter into a
dialogue, then unconditionally obedient. Mary’s acceptance
of this mystery is a stewardship model for us. Good stew-
ards remain open to the incursions of divine life into the
normal course of their daily lives. How open are we to
promptings of the Holy Spirit in our own lives? Internation-
al Catholic Stewardship Council, December 2017 eBulletin,
www.catholicstewardship.com
Confirmation Service Project This year our Confirmands chose to bake and sell cookies, with the proceeds to be donated to the Food Bank, Wom-en’s Shelter, Refugee Support and a local family in need.
Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners we sold out at the 5:00 pm Mass, raising $200.00.
Thank you to the parents who came to help, and to OLMP School for the use of the food lab.
Check out the photos on our bulletin board. Have a Merry & Blessed Christmas!
Series of Articles on ‘The New St. Francis Xavier Church Building’ -
Designed to be a Sign of Who We Are
By Father Larry V. Pederson
The new St. Francis Xavier Church building is designed to be a sign
of who we are as disciples of Jesus Christ. The Liturgy used for its
dedication reflects this.
The Exterior Environment Surrounding the Church Building
The exterior environment contributes to the transitional process of
gathering in a gradual way for Divine worship.
The colonnade of full grown trees on the outer edges of the proper-
ty draw and greet people into a sacred precinct. They function as a
natural gathering. The building stands in harmony with natural
forms, echoing the linear and vertical shape of the trees. The nat-
ural full grown trees and the newly planted trees, shrubs and per-
ennials (600+) invite people to approach with anticipation.
To be continued….
**Parish Donations** The office will be closed December 23rd to

Stewardship Reflection
December 25th - The Nativity of the Lord
In today’s Christmas Mass at dawn we hear from the Gospel
reading that God has entered quietly into the world. Not into
the great city of Jerusalem, but into a small village about five
miles south. Not into a noble family, but to an outcast couple
keeping the newborn in a manger. Not announced by royal
edicts, but to common shepherds, the first human heralds of
Christ’s birth. As Christian stewards we simply allow Christ to
live in us no matter what our circumstances happen to be.
We allow Christ to share his love with us and reflect that love
out to others. We now are the heralds of Christ’s Incarnation.
What an unimaginable gift from a generous Lord. Good stew-
ards rejoice in this gift and give glory to God. International

From the Pastoral Team’s desk...
Living in the Word of God Archbishop Smith issued a Pastoral Letter on Thursday, Septem-ber 14th, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Entitled Living in the Word of God, the letter invites us all to renew our focus on Scripture as we answer the call of the Holy Father Pope Francis to listen to the Word of God and then to put it to practice. The letter is available online at http://caedm.ca/letter. There will be a limited number of copies available at the parish office. Living in the Word - Throughout the history of the Church, the Christian response to God’s love revealed in Christ has been threefold: worship, witness and service. In these three ways we put into practice the Word of God. (Archbishop Smith, Pastoral Letter, September 14, 2017) caedm.ca/letter

Stewardship Reflection
December 31st - Holy Family of
Jesus, Mary and Joseph
When Jesus is presented in the
Temple, our Blessed Mother for-
mally offers him to God’s service
without reservation. It is a service
that Simeon prophetically fore-
tells: a service to God that will
turn the old laws and cultural
norms upside down. Are we des-
tined to hold on to old habits and
customs tightly or like Jesus, are
we willing to serve the Lord and
proclaim the Gospel in new and
creative ways? International
