“At the end of the day, PowerOn is a game changer.”

Pam Ihli

With six employees and $1.25 million in capital, Citizens National Bank opened its doors to the Sevier County community of eastern Tennessee in 1973. Twenty years later, the bank topped $100 million in assets – and the rest, as they say, is history. After reaching the $100 million mark, it took only three years for the bank to reach $200 million, another three to surpass $300 million, and so on until today when Citizens National Bank sits on the cusp of the billion-dollar mark.

The secret to the bourgeoning success of this community bank is rooted in its pioneer spirit. Citizens National Bank was the first in its community to introduce supermarket banking; the first in the state to feature image statements; and an early adopter of Internet banking, launching its website in 1997 and offering online bill payment options as early as 2000. Citizens National Bank is not afraid to be the first – to be an innovator – when it comes to the wants and needs of its customers.

When Citizens National Bank started looking for ways to enhance the user experience and ultimately better serve its customers, they found Jack Henry Banking’s PowerOn® solution. Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Pam Ihli demonstrates below the seemingly endless possibilities of PowerOn.

Jack Henry Banking (JHB): How critical is PowerOn to Citizens National Bank?

Pam: PowerOn is of high critical importance to Citizens National Bank, and will become even more so once we expand its use to more areas of the organization.

JHB: How much of an impact did PowerOn have on your decision when selecting a new core processing system?

Pam: PowerOn made quite a sizeable impact on our core decision. We were coming off of green screen and browser and were looking at several options, including SilverLake System® as well as some slick-looking stuff from other core providers. At the end of the day, PowerOn is a game changer. We saw the capabilities of PowerOn and were blown away – PowerOn meant we were never going to be “stuck.” We can have several third-party providers if we so choose, instead of being at our core vendor’s beck and call; unlike an alternative provider we looked at who really seems to back banks into a corner as far as complementary solutions are concerned.

What’s more is that when you combine PowerOn with Xperience™ in the SilverLake System, you can pull the third-party data in a way that your end-user would never know you’re using a third party. For our end-users to not feel like they’re being bounced around a variety of different systems … that’s key.

“When we go to pull reports with PowerOn, it’s just bam! – pulls right up.”

Pam Ihli

JHB: Can you explain why you placed a high value on PowerOn?

Pam: We have so many ideas for and ways in which we want to utilize PowerOn. For example: we currently have a partnership with a third-party company that uses a piece of software that, when used with jhaPassPort™, enables us to issue debit cards. Our bankers log into the system; it takes them to our jhaPassPort system; they put in the card number; and they can go ahead and give the customer a new card right then and there.

Now, imagine using a PowerOn solution that seamlessly passes the customer and account data from Xperience directly to the third-party system to produce the card instantly – right there at the printer. PowerOn is the missing piece of the puzzle that allows us to customize the process with a unique level of integration where the user never has to leave Xperience.

JHB: What does PowerOn mean to the end-user?

Pam: The benefit of PowerOn to our end-users is that they’re in one system and that system is doing the work for them. They don’t have to go into another system and make decisions – being able to use PowerOn to quickly pull in what information you need is great. It’s more than great, it’s brilliant.

JHB: What has your experience with PowerOn been like so far?

Pam: Right now, we’re using a PowerOn for document imaging, and we’ve got a couple other PowerOns that are already in the JHA Marketplace™, one of which is for the United States Postal Service. We’re in love with our document imaging PowerOn. It sends account number information over to the document imaging system that will start up in a tab with a hit list of documents, and it does all of this incredibly quickly. When we go to pull reports with PowerOn, it’s just bam! – pulls right up.

PowerOn puts your bank in the driver’s seat by enabling IT staff to develop tools and automate manual tasks. You can design the look and feel of screens using scripting languages and HTML. PowerOn gives you the ability to create your own enhancements, develop interfaces which extend your Jack Henry solution to third party systems, and to integrate data from multiple sources. The goal is to give banks maximum freedom to adapt our systems to their requirements. Software developer kits (SDKs) are already available for SilverLake System® and CIF 20/20®.
