Background Information Film is based on a true story where two
formula one drivers (James Hunt and Niki Lauda) who first developed a fierce rivalry in the 1970’s whilst driving for formula three.
Pre-Production Peter Morgan (Writer) claimed in an interview
with radio times that as he is a writer for mainly British films, he writes them expecting a film to have a budget of about £5 million, so even though he wrote this high speed action film, he wasn’t expecting them to create the scenes to the level that he expected which highlights the difference between the British and American film industry.
When casting the movie, Ron Howard struggled to find someone who he believed would play James Hunt well and nearly cut the film.
Howard also claimed that he always pictured Bruhl as Lauda right from the word go.

Technology When shooting the race scenes, over 35
cameras were used to get one shot Macro shots were used to show the
vibrating axles of the shock absorbers on the cars which was described by Howard as “epic”

Soundtrack Orchestral music was composed by
Hans Zimmer However, the movie soundtrack
included music from the likes of David Bowie and Thin Lizzy
Marketing BBC Two aired the documentary ‘Hunt vs.
Lauda: F1’s Greatest Racing Rivals’ on July 14 2013. The documentary provides an extensive look at the rivalry between the 2 F1 Drivers. It featured interviews with Lauda himself, and the Maclaren and Ferrari racing teams.
The Ferrari and The Cinema Society jointly organised a screening of the film at Chelsea Clearview Cinema in New York where Chris Hemsworth also attended.
Distribution The film premiered at The Toronto Film
Festival in 2013 A screening of the trailer was screened
at the Grand Prix in Germany infront of F1 moguls such as Bernie Ecclestone

It made an impressive $187,289 in just 5 cinemas
Reviews 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and an average rating
of 7.6/10 Even though the majority of their marketing
relied on promoting Chris Hemsworth, critics and viewers revealed that even though he portrayed the role well in the film, Bruhl “stole the show.”
Niki Lauda was pleased with the overall look of the film. He was quoted as saying: "When I saw it the first time I was impressed. There was no Hollywood changes or things changed a little bit Hollywood-like. It is very accurate. And this really surprised me very positively.”

Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian also awarded it one star out of five and called the film "car crash cinema”
