THE CUSTOMER: Kiddie Academy is a child development center

that has been encouraging and educating children for over 37

years throughout the U.S. Their curriculum helps to shape and

inspire children for the future.

When Cory and Summer Bullock were opening their second Kiddie

Academy in west League City, Texas they turned to Grounds For

Play to create an educational outdoor play environment that

catered to children of all ages.

PRESCHOOL-AGE AREA SCHOOL-AGE AREA INFANT/TODDLER AREA

THE GROUNDS FOR PLAY SOLUTION: There were two phases

to this play environment. The first phase took place in 2016

and included all play equipment. Kiddie Academy reached out

to Grounds For Play in 2018 to install three additional shade

structures. This play environment features three distinct play areas

in order to cater to children of all ages and stages of development.

The infant/toddler area includes a shaded infant play structure

with a slide, stairs, and activity panels. This area also features a

small concrete trike path and two ground-level play panels for

children that aren’t yet walking.

The preschool area includes a play structure with integrated shade

structures that help protect the children from the Texas sun. This

play structure includes three slides, two climbers, and play panels.

It also has a transfer station that allows children of all abilities

access to the play structure, making it ADA accessible. Beside the

play structure is a concrete trike path with dramatic play signs,

shaded musical garden, R-Town™ Taxi Cab vehicle, and a nature

play space with a Pizza Garden and Growing Box. These products

provide preschoolers with greater opportunities for play as they

now have greater mobility, strength, and interaction with the

environment and each other.

The school-age play area includes a large shaded play structure

that has multiple climbers, spiral slide, overhead elements, and

ADA accessibility. These play components focus on physical play

to accommodate children’s need for physical challenges.

RESULTS: As supporters of the major areas of play, Grounds For

Play was able to design an outdoor play space that fit the needs of

Kiddie Academy. Featuring play pieces and separate play spaces

for all age groups, every child at Kiddie Academy has a place

to explore, play, and develop with developmentally- and age-

appropriate play equipment.

”This outdoor play environment has benefited this Kiddie Academy

by providing a safe and engaging environment to play in,” Design

Consultant Lauren Harrigan said. “The play areas are well-rounded

and allow children to experience physical play, dramatic play,

musical play, and nature play.”
