Cascades Positive PAR Culture A team approach to students Pathway Achievement Record
At Cascades, students utilize a Path-
way Achievement Record (PAR) to
guide them on their post-Job Corps
journey. This process begins when a
student is in Career Preparation Period
(CPP) or their first four weeks on Cen-
ter. Each student chooses a specific
placement career pathway: Armed Forces/military, college education, ad-
vanced Job Corps training, or an entry-level job. Their decision places them
in a specific PAR, which ensures that each student is working on their pro-
fessional development throughout their time at Cascades. Each PAR has
specific tasks for students to work on such as resumes, LinkedIn profiles,
collage searches, military ASVAB prep, etc., which are dependent on a stu-
dent’s placement pathway. A student’s PAR follows them throughout their
enrollment in Job Corps and keeps students thinking about their post-Job
Corps life throughout their education. This is key to Cascades successful
PAR Culture! “I think it’s super important that we built PAR into a wraparound
holistic service,” commented Career Counselor Kelsey. “It helps guide
[students] from [their] first few weeks until [their] last few days and beyond.”
On December 16th, Cascades staff Mary Butowicz and Kelsey Hardaway
shared our innovative approach to PAR Culture on the bi-weekly Adams and
Associates CPP/Counseling meeting. The audience included CPP/
Counseling Managers from other Adams Centers, Counselors, and various
Adams and Associates staff. Cascades uses a wraparound and holistic ap-
proach to ensure that students are consistently on track with their PAR. Ca-
reer Counseling staff and Career Transition Coordinators are regularly track-
ing student progress, our Work Based Learning Coordinator helps by cross-
referencing students PARs and TARs. Additionally, Cascades uploads and
tracks PARs in our LMS Canvas Instructure, which allows students to access
their PAR on their own time and work on assignments at their own pace.

CASCADES JOB CORPS HIGHLIGHTS
Safety & Security Appreciation and Update We take a moment to express our gratitude for our Security team and share department updates
Throughout the pandemic, our Safety and Security staff have been absolute all-stars! They have not only worked
around the clock to ensure that our staff and students are safe, but they have also implemented many processes and
Center upgrades at Cascades over the past few months. We want to take this time to share some of them with you!
As staff arrive on Center each day, they are greeted by Security personnel who take their temperature. This is just
one more process to ensure we are doing what we can for staff and student safety in relation to COVID-19. Each day
when Center staff arrive, there are three questions that must be answered on the rSchool app. Additionally, an even
more stringent process has been put in place for students returning to Center. This procedure has extended the amount
of time it takes to process each student. Wellness first screens them and employs a quick COVID test where results re-
turn within twenty minutes. Once the result arrives, we begin the standard return process. While waiting, Security staff
allow students to remain with the folks transporting them, make a GSA vehicle with the heater running available, or turn
on a couple of propane heaters outside under the carport for their comfort. Security staff are doing everything they can to
make sure that our Center is COVID-free and we appreciate that!
As you walk around the SWIFT Center, you may notice a Security Shack (aka the “Security Outpost”) located on the
southeast corner of Center. The premise of the shack was a response to the increased trespassing incidents our Center
was experiencing. The shack is fully hooked up with electricity and will soon have a motion detecting system incorpo-
rated, as well. Special thanks for Chuck Wilson and Ron McCoy for all their help and hard work on making this happen.
Additionally, a walkthrough metal detector is now set up in the Welcome Center. This is one more part in the safety of
the overall Center-entry process. Our GSA fleet of vehicles continues to experience some changes, a couple of vans will
be returned and we are expecting a new bus to arrive in the coming months. Our only driver working on Center, John
Bermani, has been handling all the required paperwork, student appointments, and other driver duties despite being on
his own. A special thanks to John!
Cascades recently participated in our annual safety review and are currently awaiting the results. The remote nature
of this review proved to be challenging, but Safety Officer Eva more than stepped up to the plate in fulfilling all of our
Center’s requirements when it comes to safety plans and procedures. Eva was a star during the months leading up to
the review and we are expecting favorable results. Eva recently handed out our annual Safe Driver Award and a newly
established Safety Award. The Safe Driver Award was drawn from our Authorized Driver List of staff with no reported
incidents or accidents. The 2020 Safety Award was drawn from the twelve Monthly Safety Award Recipients, plus any
staff or student who were nominated by the Safety Committee for being seen going above and beyond for Safety. The
awards were given to Anny Delmoe and Edmund Dalton, congratulations! Thanks to all our staff for putting safety first!

Holiday Culinary Feast Cascades Culinary Students Joseph Lang
and Xavier Merrill cook a traditional
holiday dinner!
“This meal was an opportunity for students to
work with holiday menu items and to create a meal
that meant the holidays to them,” commented Chef
Instructor Laurel Niblock. “Being strictly on campus
this year, due to COVID-19, we wanted to make
sure that our group had a meal that felt like the holi-
days. The students made selections to accompany
the roast and they prepared their meal, largely, by
themselves. They did a great job!”

January Recreation Calendar How is the Recreation crew kicking off 2021?
Recreation Update from Recreation Manager Patrick Ulinski
We’re excited for 2021! Not only are we hopeful that our country and globe will be
making progress with the pandemic, but we eagerly anticipate the ability to run
more recreation programs and take trips off center. The pandemic has stretched our
department and we’ve met the challenge well but we look forward to some normalcy
again and are looking forward to 2021 being a rebound year! We are excited to
keep bringing new and interesting programs despite the restrictions we face. See
you in the REC Center and the SUB!

Hybrid Learning Schedule Revised on Center training schedule
Cascades is now operating a split lunch schedule, which includes two blocks of independent
study hall. This will reduce class sizes, provide instructors with adequate time to deliver hybrid learn-
ing, and allow for ample social distancing in the cafeteria.

Trading up
No Place Like Home
Miami Advanced Electrical graduate Jaime Kahn has found himself right at home (literally) with his new job at Ingredion in Highland, Indi-ana. Jaime works as an operator/mechanic and recently saved enough money to buy his first home in Erie. Jaime enrolled into Miami's Ad-vanced Training program in October 2019 and completed in February 2020. He relocated to Indiana where he worked with Career Transition Specialist Alexander Chenaut to find his current job. Jaime has worked fulltime with Ingredion for 6 months, is a member of the Machin-ists Union and earns $24 an hour! Big thanks to Mr. Chenault for help-ing Jaime find his way home.
Around the World in 30 Days
When you can't bring the students to recreational trips, why not bring recreational trips to the students? That's the idea behind New Hampshire Evening and Programs Specialist Troy Borruso's virtual tours this month. The first part of the tour featured athletic fields and stadiums around the world. Among these was an up-close tour of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain. This is the home of the world-famous soccer team, Real Madrid. Students enjoyed touring the stadium's magnificent architecture along la Castellana, along with the inside seating rows
License for Success
Keystone graduates Brianna Rinehart and Joseph Davella are driving their careers forward in some classy new rides. CNA graduate Brianna (pictured here with a special guest) picked up her new car after transfer-ring to the Advanced LPN program at the Cassadaga Center in August. Joseph was able to purchase his dream car after landing a job with Tech-no Bloc Corp. in Penn Argyl. Joseph graduated from Keystone's Materi-al Handling program last March.
A Message from Our President, Susan Sez
As the new year kicks off so do some exciting new changes within Adams' HR Department. As of this month, new hires and rehires no longer have to wait 30 days after their hire date to receive benefits. Bene-fits now begin on the 1st of the month after an employee's hire date. HR has also added a news section for compliance matters to the UltiPro homepage where staff can view updated HR policies, notices, benefit in-formation, changes and compliance documents. Finally, Wellness Warrior Kara Lopez continues to cham-pion company wellness through our new AwardCo program, where staff can earn topline Adams swag based on their WalkerTracker Points. Staff earn $20 in AwardCo dollars starting at 1,500 points and then $20 for every 3,000 points afterward. Keep in mind, if you connect your WalkerTracker account to a tracker device (i.e. FitBit), you don't need to manually enter your exercise as well. Let’s all keep stepping toward some great awards!—One Team One Goal!!!
