HISTORY

• Cartier designs, manufactures, distributes and sells jewellery and watches. • Founded in Paris, France in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the company remained under family control until 1964.• Cartier is also known as The jeweller of kings, or the king of jewellers“ named by King Edward VII of England .•Cartier was awarded it’s first ever Royal Warrant to be the supplier to the Royal Court of England.

FIRST MILESTONE

• Cartier designed a flat wristwatch with a distinctive square bezel. • This watch was liked by not only Santos-Dumont but also many other customers. Thus the "Santos" was born. • This was Cartier's first men's wristwatch.

OTHER REASONS FOR POPULARITY

• Louis was responsible for some of the company's most celebrated designs.• Art Deco designs, including the colorful "Tutti Frutti" jewels.• Inspired from India’s age-old tradition of carving gemstones into shapes like flowers and leaves.•This unbelievable piece, named the Hindu Necklace was made for one of America’s richest women, Daisy Fellowes in 1936.

Mystery clock

• Another striking piece is the Large Portique Mystery clock that dates back to 1923.• The mystery clocks a type of clock with a transparent dial and so named because its mechanism is hidden, fashionable wristwatches and exotic orientalist.• The clock made from platinum, gold and rose-cut diamonds, was the first in a series of 6 in the form of the Shinto “Shrine Gate” (portique), all of which were made by Cartier from 1923-1925.
