Greetings From Your Chapter Directors
Tom & Colleen FitzGerald
GWRRA NC-A “Piedmont Goldwings”
Well it’s finally spring, although the weather doesn’t seem to know it! I’m sure the fine riding weath-er is soon on the way. Chapter A contin-
ues to travel to our sister chapters. We recently captured the Tar Heel Traveler plaque in Hickory with 13 Chapter A members in
attendance! Carl & Nancy captured the Couple’s plaque and I can’t tell you how proud I am of our chap-ter and their support of the other chapters in the dis-trict. Well done!
We have 10 people signed up for the trip to the Little Switzerland area in July. It’s a great time of year to be in the mountains to escape the heat and have a good time with friends.
The Road Captain’s course scheduled for Saturday May 11th has 10 peo-ple registered and we have room for 5 more riders (of course co-riders can at-tend as well).
The Chapter B2 Care Bear Ride is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Flow GM Auto Center located at 1400 S. Stratford Rd, Winston Salem. Last year’s event was great with a very nice escorted ride. Let’s plan on supporting our neighbor’s event again this year.
Chapter Z will be having a Blessing of the Bikes on April 27, 2018 lo-cated at FOP Lodge #46, 2831 N. Church St., in Rocky Mount, NC.
The District’s ice cream ride is coming up on May 19th and will be held at the Dairi-Os located at 1488 NC Hwy 66 in Kernersville. The plans are to meet and eat some great ice cream and then visit the NC-O Hickory Chapter later that day.
As we get more involved in riding this time of year, let’s make sure our
bikes are in good working order and that we do some practice as our skills may
be a little rusty.
Ride Safe, Ride Often.

Looks like March is going out like a lamb (for a change). April showers? Well, we’ll see. Flowers and trees are jumping, and look lovely as we ride along. More smiles per mile.
We had a great time at Chapter H2’s Swap Meet, seeing friends, taking a co-rider course, buying and selling motorcycle parts and gear, and, of course, eating! It gets better each year, and I’m really looking forward to the Swap Meet next year!
Time to get the bike in shape to ride if you’ve been parked in the garage too long. Tire check, fluids check, oil change and lube, a little cleaning (at least dust Baby off). This is a good time, too, to think about refreshing your riding skills. MSF has a practice guide we can use to practice in a parking lot, and that’s something we could do together with friends. The Road Captain’s Course, scheduled for May 11, will also be helpful in improving our riding skills. If you haven’t signed up yet, please don’t miss this opportunity! No cost, and a good time with friends, learning and riding.
On April 7th
, Sunrise Methodist Church will hold a Blessing of the Bikes at 11:30 am. Calvin and Fran Cave belong to this church, and invited us to come. The time will be 11:30 am, at the Church, 1111 Lewisville-Clemmons Road, Lewisville. http://www.sunrise-umc.org/new-here.html, 336-712-8000. If you’d like to ride as a group, leaving from Sheetz on Sandy Ridge, please let me know at [email protected], or call 336-601-9216. Also, remember this is the first Sunday for our relaxing ride! This month, Easter will be on the third Sunday, April 21, and we have not scheduled a ride for this day.
We’ve got the Chapter B2 Care Bear Ride on April 13, come and bring stuffed animals for officers to give to youngsters and older people they encounter who are sad, upset, traumatized. The comfort they get from cuddling the stuffed animals helps them through difficult times. We’ll cover at least 2 Sheriff’s cars, and more, we hope. Flow GM Auto Center, 1400 S. Stratford Rd, Winston Salem, NC. Please plan to meet there at 10:30 am, ride starts at 11:00 am. Poker Run is $5.00 to play. Lunch will be provided by Flow GM Auto Center at 12:00 noon.
On April 27, NC Z, Rocky Mount, will have their Blessing of the Bikes Rally, proceeds to benefit the residents of the O’Berry Neuro-Med Treatment Center, Goldsboro, NC. Registration begins at 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, fee is $10, lunch included, at the FOP Lodge #46, 2831 North Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC. This will also be NC Z’s monthly gathering, meeting begins at 1:30 pm.
Getting into May, Chapter NC X2 will hold a Tech Day on Saturday, May 4th. Location will be David
Eller’s garage, 563 Charity Church Road, Millers Creek, NC (time for GPS or Google Maps here), be-ginning at 8:00 am until 4:00 pm (or until finished). Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks, feel free to bring an item to share. Brake pads, rotors, oil and filter, rear differential fluid, and engine coolant – they can help, bring your parts and fluids. RSVP to Jan or Ricky Dancy, 336-469-2903. For years, I did my own service on my bike, for convenience and cost savings. Now, I really want to watch and learn – and maybe lend a hand, if I can (just don’t ask me to get down on the ground under the bike)!
In the calendar, else-where in our newsletter, you will see that we have set the first and third Sun-days of the month, except for Easter Sunday in April, as relaxing ride days. On those days, anyone
interested in going for a casual ride can meet at the Sheetz gas station on Sandy Ridge Road just north of I-40. We set the time for 1:30 pm, which will give church-goers time to get home from services, change, grab a bite, and come to Sheetz to meet. Plan to leave by 1:45 pm. We can choose a direction, or destination, or wander until we’re happy, find a place to get some ice cream, and food if you would like, and then head home, starting the week off with a smile!
Ride safely, remember to do your T-CLOCS inspection on your bikes, check those tires carefully, and dress for the ride (and the weather).
