Greetings From Your Chapter Directors

Carl & Nancy Allen

GWRRA NC-A “Piedmont Goldwings”

Happy July everyone.

As you know we had a great Annual picnic and

some seem to think it was the best we’ve had. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed new members being with us.

I’m ( Nancy and I are) still getting our feet wet learning the ins and outs of leading the chapter

but so far so good. We have great help and our members are so accepting. We will make the best

of it.

Our newsletter is the best out there.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone out and about.

We started June off with a pick-a-nic at Hagan Stone Park, some folks camped, some of us just came to eat. Fortunately, Yogi and Boo-Boo didn’t show up, so we ate very well! Beautiful day, good food, great friends. Greg and Kathie came on their Wing. I wanted to ride, but my little poodle, Smokey, wanted to come to meet Bruce Wing and the rest of the Chapter. It was so nice to sit by the shelter, eat and visit. We had time and opportunity to chat and reminisce, so many shared memo-ries, so many changes in our lives to share. Chapter gatherings are very nice, but busy and time is limited. We’re in summer now, with temps running around 90 every day. Better riding weather for most folks, as long as the afternoon thunderstorms don’t interfere. My hydration mix, Liquid IV, is work-ing very well, along with a little dill pickle juice as a booster! Ventilated mesh riding jackets keep us protected from the sun, as well as protecting us from injuries in falls. If you don’t have one, I highly recommend them. June 17th was International Ride to Work Day. Hope some of us were able to ride to work that day, if not, plan for next year. Riding to work has always reminded me why I work, even though work sometimes interferes with riding. Enjoying the ride has always cleared my mind of the mun-dane work issues – I have more important things to pay attention to when I ride. June 28th, our Friday Night Dinner will be held at the Country Barbeque, Highway 68 in High Point (just south of I-40). The food there is always good and with our Chapter, we always have a good time. Sunset is 8:28 pm on that day, so I expect to be able to see well enough to ride my bike! We’ll meet to eat at 6:30 pm – hope to see you there! On Friday, June 21, there was a horrendous accident in New Hamp-shire, involving the driver of a pickup truck and trailer who apparently deliberately swerved into a group of motorcyclists, killing 7 and injuring 3. The driver has been charged with 7 counts of negligent homicide. The group were members of Marine JarHeads MC, a motorcycle club in New England that includes Marines and their spouses. Miranda Thompson was driving several cars behind the group, and said, “You could see people on the phone frantically call-ing, people pacing back and forth, and just, they were lost, Everybody got out of their car and helped, got blankets and first-aid kits. Everyone went into action and just helped." This tragic accident reminds us we need to be prepared to deal with “worst case scenarios”. We’ve talked about taking the Accident Scene Management class, taking the Medic First Aid class, carrying a good, up-to-date First Aid Kit, so we can provide assistance as needed. Now, with this so fresh in our minds, is a good time to take these classes and update our First Aid Kits – be a glad I did, not a wish I had, so we can “just help” like the people who helped in New Hampshire. July 4th is fast approaching, with parades, cookouts, fireworks, our patriotic celebration of Inde-pendence Day! Hope everyone has plans to enjoy and appreciate this very special day. After that, July 18 through July 20 will be our Chapter Trip to Little Switzerland, with Dwain and Susan Strader leading our fine group. There will be mountains! Wonderful roads, and great restaurants, time to enjoy and time to relax! We look forward to hearing from the participants – telling us what a wonderful time they had, and making us wish we could have gone along. Perhaps Dwain and Susan will volunteer to set up

more trips, maybe one next year??? We plan to have an early dinner on Satur-day, July 27th, at the Depot at Cody Creek, off Highway 601, 112 Old De-pot Lane, Dobson, NC. We will confirm our reservations at our July Chap-ter Gathering. The Depot is a chop house in a lodge with wood finishes, carved bears, stuffed animals, and a working water wheel in the restau-rant. It is a popular venue for weddings and parties, as well. Ride safely, remember to do your T-CLOCS inspection on your bikes,

check those tires carefully, and dress for the ride (and the weather).
