ROBERTO DEVEREUX (DONIZETTI) Saturday 16 April 5.55pmSoprano Sondra Radvanovsky takes on the extraordinary challenge of singing all three of Donizetti’s Tudor queens in the course of a single season, a rare feat made famous by Beverly Sills - and not attempted on a New York stage since. In this climactic opera of the trilogy, directed by Sir David McVicar, she plays Queen Elizabeth I, forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux. Tenor Matthew Polenzani is Devereux, and mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien complete the principal quartet in the bel canto masterpiece, conducted by Donizetti specialist Maurizio Benini.

ELEKTRA (STRAUSS)Saturday 30 April 5.55pmThe genius director Patrice Chéreau (From the House of the Dead) didn’t live to see his great Elektra production, previously presented in Aix and Milan, make it to the stage of the Met. But his overpowering vision lives on with soprano Nina Stemme - unmatched today in the heroic female roles of Strauss and Wagner - who portrays Elektra’s primal quest for vengeance. Legendary mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier is chilling as Elektra’s fearsome mother, Klytämnestra. Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka and bass Eric Owens are Elektra’s troubled siblings. Chéreau’s musical collaborator, Esa-Pekka Salonen, conducts.

GALLERY FACES by Jeremy Bridle 22 March - 24 April Jeremy Bridle is a painter of expressive figurative work. He was born in 1969 and grew up in Horsham where he still lives and works. His paintings began with portraiture, then experimenting with seascapes and landscapes before settling on the human form. The majority of his work is relatively large scale, using brushes and various scrapers to apply oil paint to the canvas. The aim is to create engaging paintings through the bold use of texture and layers of colour.

HIDDEN MEANING by Marie-Christine Clarke 25 April - 29 May I was born and raised in Paris. I have lived and worked in the UK, South Africa and the Netherlands. I am inspired by the interaction of colour and shape. My paintings are abstract. I hope that the viewer will make the effort to find their own meaning. I presented solo exhibitions in the Hawth Theatre, Crawley in 2011 and 2014. I also have paintings on permanent display in two Crawley businesses.’

ABOVE & BELOW by students of Collyer's Adult Education Arts Class 30 May - 3 July Following on from a successful exhibition at Horsham Museum last year, students have once again worked in a range of media inspired by religious art of the past. The theme of Above & Below inspired students to produce stained glass style textile works in an eclectic range of styles, icon paintings on wooden panels, mosaics, Madonna & Child ceramic sculptures, installation of art books, sculptural drawings and more. “This is the third exhibition and each year the work grows in confidence with exciting results, as students return to continue exploring their creativity through experimental workshop sessions” said tutor Helen Bolger.Collyer’s Stone Carving - work is also on show from the Stone Carving Workshops at Collyer’s. Beautiful work using a range of different stone by new and regular students to the workshops.

FARLINGTON EVENING CLASS 4 July - 7 August This is our fourth exhibition at the Capitol and once again the work is varied and exciting.  The range of work, from large scale portraits, mono-printed landscapes and abstract studies, is both unique and impressive, with students focusing on their passions and honing their techniques. The classes have been running for six years with many students participating from the outset. It has been a pleasure to teach them all, watching them grow and develop over the years. Their work is a tribute to their talents and self- belief, and the scale of progress is truly remarkable.I am sure there will be something for everyone to admire and enjoy; it is a mix of all things beautiful.

STITCHED UP TEXTILES by Kathy Seibert & Heather Shopland 8 August - 11 September Our group, “Stitched Up Textiles“, formed in 2010 after completing the City and Guilds Level 3 course in Design and Craft-Stitched Textiles. We explore and embellish traditional and contemporary techniques to their greatest potential. Threads, fabrics, and mixed media become engaged on a journey of design and experimentation.Thinking outside of the box and pushing the boundaries is our benchmark. Playing with scale, colour and texture invites innovation and inspiration into our group’s working practices. We relish the freedom of expression and collaboration, which is at the heart of our group but above all, it’s terrific fun!
