Meet the Leaders at JANSEN

Douglas K. Giarde, P.E.President

Doug joins the Jansen team having spent over 35 years in the pulp and paper industry focusing on environmental, evaporation, energy savings and chemical processing solutions with a leading

technology provider. His areas of expertise include process design, project management, construction management, corporate leadership, strategic planning and business development. Doug holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington, as well as an MBA from Seattle University.

Marcel D. Berz, P.E.Vice President, Process Technologies

Marcel has more than 25 years of experience in evaluating boiler systems and improving boiler combustion air systems, particularly when burning biomass, refuse, and

other solid wastes. He is an authority on boiler natural circulation, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, ASME power test code analytical procedures, and the thermal design of superheaters, economizers, and other boiler components. Marcel has (co-) authored several technical papers on these subjects.

Matthew A. Henderson, P.E.Vice President, Design and Construction

As a mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience in oil and gas, power generation, and

pulp and paper facilities, Matt has developed expertise and skills in many areas including project management, engineering, definition, and scheduling. His duties at JANSEN have included numerous boiler system upgrade projects for overfire air, combustion air, mechanical duct collectors, economizers, fuel distribution, fans, pressure part modifications, and non-condensable gases. In addition, Matt has extensive on-site construction engineering experience ensuring that equipment for these projects is installed as designed.

Allan R. Walsh, Ph.D.Technology Development Leader

Allan has been a key member of the JANSEN team for over 25 years. His focus has been the development of technologies that improve the performance of biomass,

waste-to-energy, and chemical recovery boilers. Allan has been responsible for the advancement of analytical capabilities including customized Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of combustion processes for “difficult” fuels, as well as boiler water/steam side circulation analysis and measurement. His recommendations have formed the basis for enhanced combustion air and fuel delivery systems.

Samit J. PetheSenior Process Engineer

Samit has been a process engineer at JANSEN for over 15 years. He has been the lead process engineer on over 25 boiler combustion system, superheater, and economizer upgrades. Particular areas
