CAMPOREE GENERAL INFORMATION

Check ‐ In: Check ‐ in is from 4:00 ‐ 8:00 pm Friday. Please

make every effort to leave home no later than 5:00 pm.

The Camporee is 2½ to 3 hours from the Valley. Troops

arriving after dark have found it difficult to find their way

around the Camporee site, not enough time to set up

camp, prepare dinner, and participate the opening

campfire. Make your plans now to get there early.

Camporee Fees: $10.00 per Scout and $4.00 per

Leader. Please provide one check made payable to “BSA.”

Cash payment in the exact amount is appreciated.

Complete the registration form at the end of this packet

and fax or email to Council by Friday, October 14, 2011.

Tour Permit: A tour permit must be submitted with

the Council by Friday, October 14, 2011, two weeks before

this event. A valid tour permit is required to participate in

this Camporee. See the web site for additional information:

http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=25740&orgkey=62 .

Vehicles in Camp: Please carpool and only bring

necessary vehicles and supplies. The Headquarters Staff will give you instructions where to park. Please follow our

guidelines:

1. Each Troop will be allowed to drive one vehicle into

the campsite to unload camping equipment.

2. Unloaded vehicle must promptly be driven to the

designated parking area.

3. Vehicles for special needs Scouts or family members

will be allowed to park in the camping area. Please

advise the Headquarters Staff.

4. Camporee activities are not possible if vehicles block

campsites, competition areas or exits .

5. No riding in the backs of pickups, BSA policy.

An overflow camping area will be available for late

arrivals to minimize disruption for the evening campfire

and sub ‐ camps.

Camping and Weather: The Camporee site is

located North of Strawberry, near Clints Well Campground

at an elevation of 7000 feet. The weather is generally dry

with daytime temperatures around 60° and evening

around 35°, therefore, dress appropriately. For current

weather conditions, see the website

Medical Information/Consent Forms:

Every Scout must have a medical information and a consent

form filled out and signed by a parent/guardian. See the web

site http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34605_Letter.pdf

for the new form that can be completed on ‐ line and saved.

It is suggested you have similar contact information for the

adult leaders and volunteers.

Camping Procedures: Approximately 400 ‐ 500

participants are expected to attend. The impact on the

environment will be heavy, please do your part to lessen the

impact. Remember the BSA “Leave No Trace” policy at

http://www.scouting.org/boyscouts/advancementandawards/meritbadges/lnotr.aspx ).

Uniforms: All Scouts are expected to arrive and depart in

a Scout uniform and wear them proudly for all activities. The

Scout uniform is a key part of the Scouting program. It shows

Scout spirit, troop identify and shows that all are equal.

Dressed as a Scout, you will want to act as a Scout.

Saturday morning, the sub ‐ camps will conduct a uniform

inspection at the flag‐ raising ceremonies. The Arizona

Klondike Paper Hats are required for inspections and events.

For the outdoor activities, Scouts may wear troop or camp

T‐ shirts with Scout pants or shorts. Proper weather attire is

mandatory.

Materials Needed for the Camporee:

Please see the equipment needs under the section, “Patrol

Competition.”

Fires: The Camporee is located in a forested area.

1. All fires must be above ground.

2. Only one campfire is permitted per campsite. Use only

“dead ‐ and ‐ down” wood.

3. Fires must be tended at all times and put out cold to the

touch before leaving the site.

4. Any fire rings made must be completely dismantled and

the area naturalized before you leave the site.

We must do our part to absolutely prevent a wildfire ,

therefore, no “bon fires” or unattended fires. Your Troop will

be responsible for suppression and restoration costs involved

in any wild fires you might have started.

Recycling and Trash: Each Troop will remove and

properly recycle and dispose of their trash. No disposal

facilities exist at our Camporee site.
