The Euromat SeriesEuromat meetings held every twoyears are sponsored by theFederation of European MaterialsSocieties. They have become primevenues in Europe for a major ga-thering of academics and industria-lists with an interest in MaterialsScience and Technology.
The Euromat series has been orga-nised by the 24 FEMS membersocieties and represents by this ashowcase of the competence of theEuropean materials community. Itincludes the following venues:

ExhibitionThere will be an exhibition of mate-rials related products, processingmachines and devices throughoutthe whole conference. The exhibi-tion space is on display on theextra page of this leaflet.

Euromat 2007Nürnberg, the mediaval city in thenorth of Bavaria was the formerresidence of the German Emperorsand venue of the early DietParliaments. Euromat will takeplace in the new congress centrethat is part of the Nürnberg fairgrounds situated close to the histo-ric centre.
FEMS AwardsAt the occasion of Euromat, FEMSpresents its highest distinctions:
• The European Materials Medal isawarded to an active materialsscientist or engineer for distinguish-ed contributions to MaterialsScience and Engineering in Europe.
• The Materials Science andTechnology Prize is awarded to ayoung European materials scientistor engineer in recognition of a sig-nificant contribution to MST. It con-sists of a full set of the 20-volumeWILEY-VCH book series.
ProgrammeThe multi parallel session pro-gramme will be built from both con-tributed lectures/posters that aregenerated by the Call for Papers,as well as by quite a few keynoteand plenary lectures.
Comprehensive information and thepossibility to register and to submitabstracts will be offered throughthe website.
Call for Papers / Registration
Submission of AbstractsProspective authors are invited tosubmit an abstract, indicatingwhich of the symposia listed on theWebsite is most appropriate to thetheme of the work. Abstracts shouldnot exceed 1500 characters inlength and should be submitted indigital format through the website.
Deadline for the submission ofabstracts: 31 Jan 2007.
Those authors preferring a posterpresentation should indicate so. Theabstracts will be evaluated and, ifaccepted, the authors will be infor-med about the kind of presentation(oral or poster).
InternetOnce the programme has beendefined, it will be displayed on thewebsite and up-dated regularlythroughout the period prior to thecongress. As a special feature, anindividual programme with selectedpapers may be created online andwill be stored until the conference.
ProceedingsThere will be no publication of acomplete set of proceedings.However, it is anticipated that anumber of journals may decide tobase special issues on particularTopics or Symposia. This is up tothe Topic Coordinators orSymposium Organisers. Euromat2005 generated 13 publications.
RegistrationIn addition to submitting anabstract, all authors must registerbefore the conference (see belowfor dates). The congress fees are asfollows:

Members of FEMS member socie-ties are eligible for a 10% dis-count.
Short CoursesA set of short introductory courseswith topical themes will be run inconjunction with the congress, tobe held on Sunday 9th September.

The CCN offers excellent facilities forboth congressing and exhibiting. Thethree upper levels accommodate 21lecture halls and ample poster display
areas. The exhibition area is locatedon the first level (see model set upabove).

Conference Location
Nürnberg is a modern city with halfa million residents, the main city ofa European metropolitan region,and at the same time a rendezvouswith history, architecture, museums,art treasures. The artistic impact ofAlbrecht Dürer, Veit Stoß, PeterVischer and many other artiststogether with the patronage ofwealthy patrician families still cha-racterise present day Nürnberg.
The imperial castle, symbol ofNürnberg, is avisual testimonyfor the city's his-toric past. Be-tween 1050 and
1571 it served all Emperors of theHoly Roman Empire as residence.
The Old CityHall comprisesall buildingserected betweenthe 14th and17th century inthe block border-
ed by Rathausplatz, Rathaus-gässchen and Theresienstraße.
The Church ofOur Lady's builtby EmperorCharles IV wasthe first Gothichall church inFranconia. The
main altar is the famous “TucherAltar”.
The Hospice of the Holy Spiritwas a founda-tion endowed by the rich Pa-trician KonradGroß for old
and needy people.
The Wine Storeis one of Nürn-berg's mostbeautiful buil-dings. The fronttowards the riverPegnitz boasts
wooden galleries with metal foun-tains.
The NationalSocialist PartyRallies and RaceLaws are just asindelibly linkedwith the city ofNürnberg as the
Nürnberg Trials against the majorwar criminals of the NS regime,marking the beginning of internatio-nal criminal jurisdiction. Dealingwith this legacy responsibly andopenly has become the task of thecity and its citizens. Nürnberg'sexemplary commitment towards acity of peace and human rights hasbeen recognised throughout theworld. Today, the Party RallyGrounds host a comprehensiveDocumentation Centre situated atthe “Straße der Menschenrechte”,the Street of Human Rights.
