I would like to thank all the participants and observers for joining us for a weekend to remember. It is you that makes these events possible. I would like to congratulate all the dogs that placed. The trophies were magnificent, and field dogs do clean up well. Everyone looked gor- geous. It seemed like a black tie affair for dogs. Now, on to new business ... Linda McDonald was voted in as 2nd Vice President for Show Events. After 6.5 years, Myra-Dawn Ellis and Sharon Kalionzes are taking a long, well deserved break from the newsletter. Sa- brina Arney has agreed to step up and take it over. So if you have any thing to say, brag about, or publicize, please send your info to Sharon until September 15th, and to Sabrina after that. Our next event is the CBC Awards Banquet, to be held at McKenna's On the Bay, in Long Beach, on July 20th. So, please get your dog’s points, for the year of 2007 in to Margaret Horstmeyer before the end of June. Following the Awards Banquet is the Willi Match (a club fun day show) which will be held on Aug 17th at Rush Park in Ross- moor. We will be closing the year with our Fall Field Trial, on Nov 1 & 2, where we cele- brate dogs that have re- ceived their Championship throughout the year. Wow, it’s June and we are only half way through the year. Yet, it seems so much has already happened.

I would like to say that the CBC show committee run by 2nd VP Sharon Kalionzes did a fabulous job when hosting the CBC Specialty and the ABC Summer Specialty over Memorial Day weekend. I take my hat off to these ladies and men that made this weekend not only hap-pen, but a weekend that CBC members will cherish for a long time. They ran a hospi-tality table from sunrise to sunset. • Sunny, warm California wasn’t cooperat-ing during Memorial Weekend this year. Thursday found us with COLD, rainy, thunderstorm weather at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA. Thank goodness the competition was held in a nice, dry and comfortable building! By Friday, it was cold but mainly dry, and by Saturday morning things were looking up.

Following the Best in Show judging Fri-day evening, Mrs. Agnes Rodrigues pre-sented a Judge’s & Breeder’s Education Seminar to a packed room. The newly revised ABC presentation of the Brit-tany Standard was shown, and was very well received. We hope that we can present it again at one of our CBC func-tions. It is very informative!! Thank you Agnes!

Mr. Lou Guerrero started the morning’s competition with the Sweepstakes classes. He was thorough, and so help-ful to many of the “newbie” competitors and their puppies. His picks were well received. Sunquest Cimmaron Catch the Wind, owned by Hank and Dee Hartnek of Arizona took Best in Sweeps. Mr. Guerrero then asked the Veterans to take over the ring ... and do that, they did! These “mature” dogs can REALLY MOVE! What a joy watching them shine. Viviana Flores’ CH Jordean Huck-leberry Winn CD JH took home the Best in Veteran Sweeps honors.

Mr. Jeff Pepper took the ring and started his assignment with quiet confi-dence, and found his choices after com-paring the dogs with his hands and

the background. A special THANK YOU to those who sponsored trophy dona-tions. Your generosity is so greatly ap-preciated. THANK YOU ALL!

Congratulations to the winners and all competitors. The results follow. Enjoy!

watchful eyes. He gave each entry am-ple opportunity to show movement with his pattern around the large ring. Following the judging, CBC President Sheri Harder held a general meeting for members, and the Hospitality com-mittee was off to get ready for the California Beach Scene Dinner. It was held in the RV parking area ... set up with tropical colored table covers, beach sand down the center, seashells scattered around a pineapple center-piece. The diners enjoyed Kaluha Pork, Teriyaki Chicken, steamed rice and de-sert under the canopy. It was a little breezy and cold, but it was so nice get-ting together with Brittany people from many parts of the country.

Huge thanks go to the Show Committee who worked so hard to make this week-end happen. They did it SO WELL!!! Cindy Leffingwell (Trophy Chair), Sa-brina Arney, Rozanne Woelm and Helen Harbour for the outstanding trophies for both this Specialty and the ABC Summer Specialty. Hospitality Chairs, Rozanne Woelm and Helen Harbour for the dinner, the morning treats and the ambiance for the weekend festivities. Linda McDonald for the Raffle Satur-day evening, she always get SUCH GREAT THINGS to temp us to buy more tickets!! Nancy Hewitt for her great finds and Myra-Dawn Ellis for her computer/internet help. The teamwork within this group of ladies was just amazing and I thank them so very much. It wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for all of them and the unsung heroes in

Our Specialty weekend truly began Fri-day morning with the Brittany competi-tion supported by the Southern San Joaquin Valley BC with an entry of 44 dogs. Following BIS judging, Mrs. Agnes Rodrigues presented the newly revised ABC Judges/Breeders Educa-tion seminar to a packed room. It high-lighted our Dual Standard and was very informative. Agnes was thoughtful and gracious with her delivery of the slide-show information and hands-on dogs that were presented. Those participat-ing enjoyed the 90 minutes. Thank you Agnes and computer guru Sheri Harder! Diane Kroll was also present, and was available for ringside mentoring thru the weekend. We thank her for her time and help.

Saturday evening, after BIS judging, we sat down at tropical tables, with beach sand strewn down the middle, seashells and pineapple centerpiece. Under a canopy, the California Beach Scene Din-ner, designed by our Hospitality team, Helen Harbour and Rozanne Woelm took place. The Hawaiian fare catered din-ner was delicious! Even with the cold and breezy weather, it was a great eve-ning of friendship, meeting new people and seeing old friends.

Sunday morning, our competitors were met by two large tables sporting the wonderful ABC Summer Specialty tro-phies chosen by Cindy Leffingwell and her committee. All have the Beach Scene Summer Specialty logo embroi-dered on them. The absolutely gor-geous handmade quilts with SS logo embroidered in the center square were made by our very own Helen Harbour

and Rozanne Woelm. The quilts were given for BOB, BOW, and BOS wins. What MANY talents these wonderful ladies have!!! Folding chairs also em-broidered, complete with American Brittany Rescue puppies sporting sun-glasses were given for the top class prizes. Blue and white striped beach towels with logos were presented to the first place winners in all classes. We had expandable, insulated coolers and camp stool type coolers for prizes. 2nd thru 4th in the classes were stainless water buckets with goodies in cute bags. We thank you, from all over the country, for your support with ABC Tro-phy Donations. Without YOU we could not have done such an undertaking. We thank the CBC members for doing dou-ble duty and supporting two specialties!

Our Sweepstakes Judge, Mr. Robert Margolis took the ring and gave the puppy entry his full attention. Giving each their best opportunity to show their stuff, he gave thoughtful consid-eration to his choices. Taking BIS was Lone Oaks Smokin’ Masked Ranger, a

handsome org/wht and well moving boy from the 12-18 month class, from So. CA. BOS was a lovely org/wht bitch, also from the 12-18 month class, Dog-wood Hollow Lil’ Surfer Girl who came all the way from Tennessee.

The Veterans took the ring and as usual they Wowed the crowd with their Go-Power and style. They may be older, but they can still bring on the excite-ment! Our Best in Veteran Sweeps went to a very handsome and great mov-ing nine year old, org/wht CH First Time Flyer JH. Best Opposite Veteran Sweeps went to the lovely liver/white bitch, CH Cimmaron’s Mustang Sally JH who also had taken it the previous day.

Taking charge of the ring now, Mrs. Noreen Cartwright. She was efficient, thoughtful and pleasant with the com-petitors, and diligent in finding the dogs which met her criteria. Her WD pick was the handsome org/wht, fluid mover FC Redline’s Smokin Gun, who finished his Dual Championship with this wonder-ful win! We congratulate Colt’s owners, Sheri (and Duane) Harder, and breed-ers, Cindy and Bill Leffingwell on this very exciting accomplishment. Mrs. Cartwright’s pick for Winner’s Bitch came from the Bred by Exhibitor class, Shiloh’s Razzle N Dazzlin, a lovely org/wht girl who did some BIG winning this day! She took WB, Best Bred By, and BOW to go home with a 5 pt. major and lots of ABC Beach Scene goodies! Thanks to Pro-Plan winnings, she gets good eats too. Congratulations to “ZZ” and breeder/owner Pennie Peterson and co-owner Katelyn Ford.

If there is anyone who would thinks they can fix the motor they are welcome to it. Also they don’t want to move all of our old copies of The American Brittany. They date from the late 1970s. Congratulations to owner/breeders Margaret Horstmeyer and Tom White, and show handler Jessica, and of course Paul! I see another DC in their family soon. [Isn’t it a wonderful to see “striving for the Dual Dog “ alive and well among our membership? The Leffingwells, the Horstmeyer-Whites and Harders are excellent examples. It’s also great to see both the “Sires” and the “Dams” doing so well producing Dual Champions. Those tenacious owners getting their dogs out in BOTH venues to compete is so exciting!!! There are MANY of you.. and I salute you! Congratulations to all who compete in both the field and show. It’s time consuming, expensive and takes so much effort ... but what a joy with the accomplishment of earning that DC title! Best wishes for the suc-cess of the next group of Dual Champi-ons in the wings! Truly ... Ed. note]

WONDERFUL JOB they have done. Results are in the newsletter.

Our Awards Banquet is next on the agenda, and Rozanne Woelm will work her magic again and have a wonderful event for us all to gather at to renew friendships, brag on our dogs, and enjoy a wonderful luncheon. We hope you all have made your reservations. Whether you have sent in a score sheet or not ... it’s a very fun afternoon, so come enjoy the food and friendship. Many changes this coming year, with a new board, and a new group of volun-

Congratulations to all of our members who have finished new titles on their dogs!! Within the past months, there have been new Field Champions, new Show Champions and a couple of Dual Champions within our membership. Our Britts have done some major winning and placing AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championships events. Check out our Brag pages!

We have just finished a major under-taking. The CBC Specialty and hosting the ABC Summer Specialty were very successful. What a BIG JOB for our hardworking volunteers, and what a

teers to chair major events and positions. I personally hope newer members will join the changes, get involved with the workings of the club, and enjoy making these club events hap-pen. They can only happen if members become involved.

See you at the Awards Banquet and the Willi Match! Send in your brags, and let us know about upcoming litters. Have a fun summer!

A Post from Jerry Rosenberg that I thought was a GREAT ONE…Ed.

As if Paul (Doiron) didn't do well enough in the AKC Gun Dog Championships in Reno, NV. Re-trieving Stake, we just heard that in the Hour Stake he got 1st, 3rd & 4th with approximately 102 dogs entered. He got first with (San-Dee’s) Blazing Shane, third with Megasmoke Grand Finale and fourth with MTB'S CaboRita de Scipio. Second went to a GSP. Congratulations to Paul, Peggy and all the dogs owners. der for the fall field trial to be held on Nov.1-2, 2008. Bill Leffingwell is the current field trial chairman but would like to step down after the fall trial. Please contact him if you are interested in becoming the field trial chairman for the Spring-Fall 2009 season. There was much discussion on pursuing an all-walking trial, as well as on a re-vival of the CBC Club Championship. It was decided to open discussion again at the next general meeting to be held at the Willi Match in August. Rozanne Woelm reported that the points sheet toward the awards for the CBC 2008 Awards Banquet need to be to Margaret Horstmeyer no later than June 30, 2008. The Awards Banquet will be at McKenna’s On the Bay. See the flyer in the last newsletter for all information. A new awards chairperson is being scouted so if you can be of help with this event please contact Sheri Harder, Rozanne Woelm or Frank Bia-chini. Frank Bianchini, 3rd VP and Willi Match/Awards Banquet Chairman, reported that the Willi Match would be Sunday, August 17 at Rush Park. Same park as last year. Again there will be a handling class and grooming demo before the judging, so plan to come early and take advantage of these learning opportuni-ties. Frank made a motion that the CBC fund the Willi Match to include ribbons, judge’s reimbursements, etc. The mo-tion seconded by Linda McDonald. The Breeder/Judges Seminar that Agnes Rodrigues conducted on Friday evening during the Mission Circuit was discussed. A BIG round of applause to Agnes ... she did an outstanding job. It was suggested that we do one within

The meeting was called to order at 2:17 p.m. in the grooming area at the Pomona Fairplex by our president, Sheri Harder. It was checked and stated that a quorum was present. Sheri Harder announced that Margaret Horstmeyer, Sec/Treas, was away on vacation. Minutes from the last meeting was published in the last newsletter and treasurer’s report would be published in the next newsletter. The Slate of officers for 2009 was read and nominations from the floor were opened. There were no nomina-tions from the floor and a motion was made by Sharon Kalionzes to accept the slate as read. Sheri Harder President Bill Leffingwell 1st VP Field events Linda McDonald 2nd VP Show events Frank Bianchini 3rd VP Willi Match/ Awards Banquet Chair Margaret Horstmeyer Sec/Tres Linda McDonald 2nd the motion. Motion passed unanimously. Sheri announced that Myra-Dawn Ellis and Sharon Kalionzes would be stepping down from the newsletter duties at the end of this year. The new chairperson for the newsletter will be Sabrina Ar-ney. Linda Dixon will take care of the email mass mailings and mailing the pa-per copies by snail mail to those that request it that way. Linda McDonald will be the new chair-person for show events so we are in need of a new raffle chairperson. If you are interested in helping with this, please contact Sheri Harder. Karen Nelsen reported that all is in or-

the club. Frank Bianchini will check on a room and Agnes will coordinate date and time with Frank. Sabrina Arney is working on a much-needed “New Member” pamphlet to be given to new members. It explains what all of our events, both AKC and ABC, are and how they work. The pamphlet will explain many of the Brittany activi-ties that CBC supports. The proto-type should be ready for the next meeting so the membership can see and read it. Karen Nelsen informed the meeting that an article on our own Jr. Handler, Dakota Renfree and written by Bonnie Hildago was now on the AKC Web Site for all to read. Jr. Handling in the field was discussed and the CBC will support and make a push for Jr. Handler Field participation to become more recog-nized. Our Breed Referral for the CBC is Mary Brown. Please contact her if you have puppies available. She is waiting and very willing to help you out. See the newsletter for her contact information. A motion was made by Frank Bianchini to adjourn and Beve Bemis seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Rozanne Woelm Substituting for Margaret Horstmeyer
