I recently did a kiteboarding trip with a group of professional and non-professional riders to a remote part of the planet. The 11 day trip, far removed from the comfort of our familiar kiteboarding venues, delivered an experience both raw and enlightening. When it was all said and done, it reinforced a belief that I’ve held since we started Cabrinha Kiteboarding:

Pros and non-pro riders want the exact same thing from a kiteboarding brand.

They want the absolute best equipment for their respective levels of riding. They want to be confident that they are getting the highest quality that we can deliver. They want satisfaction. We at Cabrinha are in this business because of our unwavering passion for the sport -- and we understand that the success of our business exists purely on the complete satisfaction of our riders. And by riders I mean everyone from the first time buyer to the touring pro.

2010 marks our 10th year in this labor of love. This year we honor our commitment to the sport and our riders with a wide range of products based on feedback from the ground. KPWT world champion Jesse Richman and riders pushing the limits of the sport have been clamoring for a kite that could perform in the waves and for freestyle. The all new Nomad kite was born -- a perfect blend of quick powered turning and smooth, immediate depower.

Inspired by Andre Philip, wakestyle riders are finding their place in the kiteboarding landscape. The 2010 Andre Philip Signature Custom model cements his influence and offers the ultimate board for riding obstacles and progressing the wake movement. And for pure laughs, we’ve upped the fun factor with our all new wakeskate and Nugget trick boards. Finally, we’ve expanded our surf line of boards to tackle everything from small beach breaks to powerful reef pass waves.

The all new Powerdrive IDS control system has been redesigned from the bottom up to accommodate many

new features while making it easier to use. The result is our most refined and evolved control system to date.

In a huge industry first, Cabrinha has managed to internalize the IDS landing line into the main depower line. The landing line now occupies its own chamber alongside the depower main line for added protection and a streamlined interface. With the all new internal IDS security system, Cabrinha makes good on its promise that performance and security are no longer mutually exclusive. The all new internal Intelligent Depower System (IDS) puts the industry leading 4 line security right at your fingertips when you need it and out of your way when you don’t. We’ve internalized the landing line to protect it from the elements and to simplify the control system. The new IDS landing line is virtually invisible while riding but right there when you need it.

INTERNAL IDS LANDING LINE

The all new OverSlide™ stopper unit is a sliding system that allows the rider to temporarily let go of the control system to unspin the twists in their control lines. It also serves as a means to contain the bungeed power adjusters. OverSlide™ is designed to slide out of the way when forcefully pushed with the control system. OverSlide™ can be positioned anywhere on the main depower line and the rider can choose their desired sliding tension. The all new OverSlide IDS now gives you the freedom to spin your bar when and where you want along the depower main line. You can choose the release tension and position Overslide where you want.

INCREASED DURABILITY & DESIGN

The 2010 Powerdrive IDS control system has a redesigned set of floating EVA bar ends. The new ends will accommodate more flying line and provide better line management before and after your riding session. The Intelligent Depower System (IDS) provides an amazing level of control with minimum rider effort and input. IDS is a simplified bridle and control system exclusive to Cabrinha. IDS produces virtually no bar pressure while delivering precise control of the steering and power of your kite.

IDS is so intuitive that it seamlessly provides 2 stages of depower. Interactive Depower on Demand while riding, and an Absolute Depower method to land your kite. Absolute Depower functions similar to a 5th line system, but without the complexity of the unnecessary 5th line. The Sprint™* inflation system is a simple to use feature to quickly inflate your kite to an even pressure. The Sprint™ system uses a single inflation point to connect your high volume, two way Cabrinha pump. As you pump your kite with air, all struts and your leading edge inflate quickly and simultaneously to the desired pressure. The supplied leash pump and threaded valve connection keeps your kite under control even when pumping up directly in the wind.

Once the kite is pumped you can choose to clip off, or isolate the air contained in the struts. This way if you damage a strut while in use, the rest of the kite will continue to maintain its pressure. At the end of the session you can choose to deflate your kite completely by disengaging the strut air clips, or you can keep your struts inflated and put your kite away rolled up so that the next session will take just minutes to set up.

The kite everyone will be talking about is the all new Nomad IDS Freestyle Wave kite. This non-bow hy-brid IDS kite combines the best of both worlds.... a moderate C shaped arc and an IDS bridle to deliver our fastest turning kite yet. The Nomad creates the type of kite turns that increase in power throughout the turning arc by pivoting off of the wing tip. This makes for powered kite loops unlike anything on the market.

The Nomad IDS comes with two distinct tuning op-tions. The freeride bridle setting is aimed squarely at the professional freestyle rider and is balanced to fly perfectly while unhooked. This setting is ideal for intermediate to pro level freestyle tricks or un-hooked surfing.

The wave bridle setting allows a greater level of de-power for hooked in surfing. The fast turning speed of the Nomad combined with its quick and short de-power throw, make for a finely tuned, predictable surfing kite like no other.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

WOOd Vertically laminated Paulownia produces a high compression, lightweight core. Paulownia has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of all wood species.The result is simple. Bullet proof, with a smooth, consistent flex pattern. Average Density: 310kg/ m³. Eco-friendly wood core.

EPSEPS cores are watertight and offer high impact resistance. EPS is combined with a wood laminate and PVC to provide an ultra light durable core. Average Density 20kg/m³

FIBERgLASS LAMINATESEach board has its own unique layup. We have tested many different configurations of the laminate to produce the best combination of strength and weight. The cores are profiled to dial in the specific flex for a design. Then the laminate is applied to support the flex and increase strength.

ABS RAILSThe ABS sidewall is laminated to the core during the lay-up process. It’s designed to increase the strength while ensuring a smooth, durable and consistent ride. All rails are finished with our custom shaping to provide precise edge control and smooth transition.

gRAPHIC FOILA light-weight and tough material. It’s UV and scratch resistance properties make it perfect for kite board production.

STAINLESS STEEL INSERTS Our stainless steel inserts are custom made to eliminate pull out and spinning. Our inserts are all M-6 thread and sized to properly fit the core profiles. They are inserted in the core during the lay-up process and are in for good.

FUTURE FIN SYSTEMFuture fin boxes are the most user friendly and strongest removable fin system available on the market. The system offers all the positive features of removable fins, while providing better performance than glass-on fins.

WOOd STRINgERReinforced Wood stringers adds strength while allowing flex to the surfboard range.

dESIgN ELEMENTSQUAdCAVEThe Custom and Caliber boards receive the very latest in 3-d bottom shaping with the concave and step bleeding through the perimeter of the board to increase tracking and create and allow true finless performance. The center flat sections reduce the boards tendency to stick on off axis landings and eliminate spray in the eyes by allowing the nose to rider higher.

CORE PROFILESAll our cores are produced with CNC milling. This means that every core is true to our design. Flex, profile and manufacturing consistency are all exact, every time.

ROCKERThe rocker is a key element in the overall feel and performance of your board. We use four distinct rockers based on the performance targets of the boards.

FLEX PATTERNA symmetric pattern provides an identical flex, forward or switch, ideal for all types of riding conditions. The center sections are stiffer to give excellent edge control. Controlled flex in the tips give the boards pop and control in all water conditions.

Cabrinha has developed a set of fins specifically for the Cabrinha Surfboards. The materials, foils, and templates are all designed around the demands of kitesurfing.

Both the Tri and Quad fin sets have been re-foiled to increase tip flex and response. The fins are cut from fiberglass plate to increase durability. The bases have all been milled to reduce weight and to ease mounting to the Future fin system.

In an effort to reduce waste on packaging material, all Cabrinha board with the exception of the Rival will be shipped inside a thin board bag. The bag is the same nonwoven material that is used to make the sync bag pouches. The accessories are held in this bag: fins x 4 pcs, fin screws x 8 pcs, handle x 1 pc, handle screws x 2 pcs.

The Sync Binding has opened up an entirely new way of connecting to the board. For 2010 we have focused on ergonomics, durability, and ease of use.

By utilizing new construction methods and materials from the shoe industry we have made the new Sync lighter, stronger, and more user-friendly. The tongue is more stable due to the integration of the side-walls and the lacing pattern. The laces are more durable and easier to use and the new lace lock is purpose built and much more durable.

The uppers are integrated into our new footbeds which are now available in two sizes. The footbeds have been re-engineered to decrease weight and increase comfort. The footbed plates feature a more forgiving mounting slot that will ease mounting and compatibility with a wide range of boards.

The Plasma design concept was to make a board that could be ridden in the threshold conditions of 10-12 knots. This board planes quickly while de-livering a high level of performance suited for light wind riding. The result is a lightweight twin tip de-sign with a wider, parallel outline and off center 3-D section and foot positioning. A new tip design re-duces the spray when riding in choppy waters. The PVC core has excellent tracking abilities and knack for getting a rider upwind in marginal conditions.

The CO-AX footstrap is a full coverage, fully supported footstrap which can quickly adjust to different foot sizes. The new Co-ax has added padding in the arch for an even more comfortable ride. It is made with durable nylon, neoprene and EVA.

The 3D foot-beds have been designed with performance, ease of use, and is lightweight. The 3d shaping of the foot-bed cradles the foot and reduces fatigue with its soft molded EVA. The custom cut grip EVA inlay provides a solid, no slip feel and the entire foot-bed is canted inwards to align the knees. The internal plate is pre-curved and lightweight.

The S-Quad is a purpose built board for high performance surfing. The S-Quad is a four finned epoxy board made to surf fast and hard. The S-Quad can be ridden with or without straps, hooked in or unhooked, in surf anywhere between 2 and 15 feet. The curvy outline makes for a looser feel especially in smaller surf. However, when the conditions deliver pumping surf and strong winds the four fins really come into their element.

Kit includes the items needed to convert any 2010 IDS control system to a Pro Bar system. This lowers both front control lines to the top of the CAS for more direct steering response. Use of the Pro Bar system deactivates the 2 stage IDS de-power and requires manual activation of IDS in the case of emergency or self landing.

Schools can also use this system to activate IDS automatically upon letting go of the control bar (during un-hooked body drags). This set up requires simply attaching the kite leash directly to the ring on the manual IDS activation grab loop.
