From the Pastor

Peace be with you, Monday is May 18. This date is significant in Church history and the date is important in our current history. In Church history it would have been the 100th birthday for Pope Saint John Paul II. To mark the occasion, I have been invited to celebrate a live streamed Mass from the John Paul II Shrine of Divine Mercy in Salem. This will be on the Shrine’s YouTube channel, which is “JP2 Divine Mercy,” at 10:00 am, Sunday, May 17th. The Shrine in Salem is something I have told you about before, and it was doing fine and growing, until it was put on hold by the pandemic. From its beginning though, the Holy Spirit has been strong there keeping things going and I have no doubt it will come out on the other side of this crisis. Because I have the Mass there, Fr. Reilly will be the celebrant of the Mass here, live streamed on Saturday at 4:00 pm, and then on our website for our parishioners to watch any time after. May 18th is significant in our current lives because Governor Baker is going to make a speech which hopefully will begin the process to ease back restrictions. The Archdiocese of Boston has been working as closely as possible with the Governor and his staff to figure out when and how we reopen our Churches. This is hopeful news to all of us, but I caution everyone not to think that we will be anywhere near back to normal. The Governor has already announced that there will be four stages: 1. Start, 2. Caution, 3. Vigilance, and 4. New Normal. The best we can hope for from the Governor’s speech this Monday is that he will initiate the first phase called “Start”. As of this writing, we do not know if Churches are changed in any way in the first phase, or do we have to wait for the “Caution” stage. When we do come back it will be gradual. It will involve a limited number of people allowed in for the Mass. There will be strict rules before you enter, and once inside the church as to where one can sit. There may be a sign up to get in. Don’t worry that won’t last forever and we will gradually get back to a “new normal.” While the gradual re-entering occurs, we will continue to stream our Masses, and your Sunday Obligation will be modified to fit. It is quite possible that the Governor defines “vulnerable persons” strictly and those in this category will not be allowed in the Church until a later phase. So, the word is patience. Please note that whenever you do go back, there will be no missalettes, no collection baskets, or anything that people reuse. It will be awhile before any of these things come back. Therefore, we are actively figuring out ways to make these Masses reverent and as normal as possible, utilizing our screens and new camera. We hope you are well, and that you let us know if we can be of service to you. Blessings on you and your families, Bishop Mark

Mass Intentions

Vocation Crucifix is a special crucifix that travels from family to family to inspire prayers for vocations to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life.

We have suspended the ministry for the time being. We ask everyone to please pray for vocations to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life.

We have provided a prayer below.

Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood

Lord Jesus Christ, you share your saving work with all your brothers and sisters by their baptismal consecration. But you call some to be ordained priests or deacons to make you visible in a special way, to proclaim your Good News, to celebrate your saving love in the Eucharist and other sacraments, to lead and encourage your people in their pilgrimage to the Kingdom. May you awaken a generous response in the hearts of those whom you are calling to this work, for the building up of your Church. May parents teach their children the need and responsibility of this vocation. Amen

Please pray for the repose of the soul of

Dorothy B. Paicos

Kathleen Sullivan

and all our deceased relatives, friends and

parishioners

Due to the suspension of public Mass, we

will not be taking requests for Mass

Intentions for 2021, until further notice.

Although we cannot have regular hours for Confessions, you can call for an appointment for a Confession. Tell us if

it is anonymous or not (you can have someone else call if you are concerned about full anonymity). We will set up a time for you to drive to the church, stay in your car, and Bishop Mark or Fr. Reilly will hear your Confession from a chair or behind a screen. If you are aiding an elderly person, the driver can still bring the person around, then exit the car and go for a walk while we hear the Confession. It can be done, and we are quite willing to set up these appointments.

If there is a need for an anointing, call us and we will walk you through the rules of how it will happen, with minimum exposure to the priest and residents of the house.

Please call the parish office to arrange an appointment.

Confession or Sacrament of the Sick

The Church is Open

St. Theresa Parish will be open during certain days and times for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and prayer. The only entrance to the church will be the side door closest to the rectory. All other doors will be locked. Please note the new days and times :

• Mon. thru Thurs., 7:45-8:45 AM

• Mon. thru Wed., 4 -5 PM

• Sat., 7:45 -8:45AM, 2--3 PM • Sun., 7:45--8:45 AM; 10-11 AM; 4-5 PM.

Please: we are restricted to no more than ten people at one time in the church; maintaining a distance of six feet between each person. You are also required to have a mask on while in the church.

NOTE: If the door is locked, Father Reilly was called away, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Special Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

The Blessed Sacrament is exposed ALL DAY in the front window of the rectory for worship. You can spend time in prayer, with our Lord,

from your car. Cars can be parked facing the rectory.

We understand these are strange times. Let us be with our God. He will give us hope and comfort through our prayers.

RESPECT LIFE PRAYER

PROVERBS 17:6

“Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.”

PRAYER: Lord, fill us with awe and reverence for life. Though we are not able to see the Angels, remind us of their presence, too, through the face of every human person.

In this time of the Coronavirus, we are asking parishioners to pray the Rosary from home for the sanctity of Human Life, from conception to natural death. Our Blessed Mother Mary has said that the one true weapon against all evil, especially abortion, is the Rosary.

Thank you for your prayers.

HOPE and HEALING for those with Substance Abuse Illnesses During COVID-19 Outbreak

Despite the restrictions on social gathering in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, resulting in the temporary suspension of many recovery and support group meetings and programs, help and support is still available to those in need who are suffering with addiction.

The Archdiocese of Boston, through their Opioid Task Force, has compiled a listing of resources to help those in need find online meetings, phone meetings and even online chat functions to help maintain support in recovery for those with alcohol and or substance abuse issues.

We encourage all in need at this time, including family members of those suffering from addiction, to visit the Archdiocesan website: Bostoncatholic.org. Click on the Offices and Ministries tab and in the drop-down menu click: Health and Human Services. There you will find the link to the Archdiocesan Opioid Task Force information and a multitude of easily accessible resources.

If you are interested in sponsoring a ZOOM group support or prayer meeting for those with substance abuse illness or for family members please contact Deborah Charewicz, Faith Formation Assistant at [email protected].

Faith Formation News Grades 1-8

Registration for 2020-2021 Faith Formation & 2020 Children’s Camp is Open!

We are opening registration for our 2020-2021 Faith Formation year and our Children’s Camp this week. There are some changes this year due to the pandemic.

First, our middle school summer program will be online this year. The program will be a combination of a self-paced online course and a few live, zoom meetings on enrichment topics. Families will be able to choose from several options for the enrichment meetings to best fit them around summer schedules.

At present, we are planning that our Fall/Spring program, scheduled to start in late September, will operate on a schedule similar to this year’s program. However, we are working on plans to modify the program if needed due to the pandemic. If you register a child now for the fall, and we have to change our program, we will be in touch with you about options for the fall. Rest assured that we are working hard to make sure our students and families are supported in the faith.

We are also opening registration for our Children’s Camp (Vacation Bible School) this week. We are still planning on having the camp the week of July 27th to 31st. We are planning for a “virtual” camp that we hope will include livestreamed opening & closing sessions, as well as online teaching for the Storytelling and Bible Challenge areas. We will prepare a package of materials and crafts for each family that can be done at home in connection with our online offerings. It should be a fun-filled week!

Please email me at [email protected] or [email protected] if you have questions or need anything. Know that I am praying for you and your family, and please keep one another in prayer, especially those families with sick members or those with workers who labor in high risk settings.

Honor Mary This May

May is traditionally the month we honor the Mother of our Church. Because we can't gather together to honor our Blessed Mother, we are inviting all St. Theresa parishioners to bring flowers to our statue of Mary during the entire month of May. The statue is located by the Parish Hall door, across from the rectory. We encourage you to spend time with your family in front of the statue reciting a Hail Mary or a decade of the rosary. Please honor the guidelines of social distancing by waiting in your car if another family is present.

Stations of the Light is an Easter Season Devotion, narrated by some of our 5th & 6th grade students!

Each station follows fourteen of the most inspiriting events of Jesus’ post-Resurrection life on earth. In the early Church this practice was known as the Via Lucis, or Way of the Resurrection. Check it out on our website www.sttheresanreading. There is a link on the home page.

heroes rising to help. The Angel Notes Ministry is here to send notes to brighten a day for someone isolated, say "thank you" to someone working on the front lines of this pandemic, or let someone know their parish is thinking of them, especially if their family is suffering in any way from the COVID-19illness. If you know of someone who can use a spirit lift let us help! Contact Elaine Sousa at [email protected] with the names, addresses, the reason for your request and any other pertinent information that will assist in writing a note and sending an appropriate card theme. Boston Clear At Pocahontas Spring Water

Not far from St. Theresa’s is a natural spring that has been providing mineral enriched water to residents of the Northshore since 1901. But its history goes back even further, when in 1640, King Charles I granted the Smith family 640 acres of land, which included the Spring, in what is now around Main and Lowell Streets in Lynnfield heading into West Peabody. And it was in 1901 that Joseph Franklin Smith established Pocahontas Spring Company at the age of 21.

The water, known for its high mineral and alkaline content, which many feels provides health benefits, draws people as far as Vermont and upper New York State.

In recent years, the Springs has also become a place for prayer. The current owner (who wishes to remain anonymous), who has a personal devotion to the Blessed Mother, saw the peacefulness and beauty of the place and felt moved to make Pocahontas Spring a place for prayer and reflection as well. On their grounds are places to pray, light a candle for personal intentions, and leave a note of gratitude or remembrance to the Blessed Mother.

What is the Springs connection to St. Theresa’s? Since, 2017, the healing intentions left in the intention box, have been delivered to Father Reilly before each of his Healing Services. In addition, 100 percent of the donations from lighting of candles, are given to Father Reilly’s Healing Ministry.

During this time of COVID-19, Boston Clear Water’s owner wants everyone to have access to clean water, so on Wednesdays, their water is free, for those who cannot afford to pay. Visit their website for more information:
