THE
SCIENTIFIC METHOD
By: Kennedy, Steve, and Katerina
THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD IS…
An organized way to solve problems.
All scientists use the scientific method.
Scientists each have their own different views about it.
STEPSProblem statementHypothesisProcedureDataResultsConclusion
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In the problem statement you ask yourself a question.
HYPOTHESIS
The hypothesis is what scientists call a
possible answer to the original problem.
PROCEDURE
The procedure is where you do the actual
experiment.
DATA
Data is facts and information provided
from a reasonable source
RESULTS
The results are the facts from your
experiment.
CONCLUSION
The conclusion answers your hypothesis using
facts from your experiment.
MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
A variable is often changing.A control is a subject taking part in an experiment but not
involved in the procedures affecting it.
An inference is a guess.
FOR A GOOD EXPERIMENT YOU
NEED… The subjects need to be similar
Condition of the experiment should be equal except the
variableThere should be a control group
Results should be able to be repeated.
WHY DO SCIENTISTS THESE STEPS ANYWAYS?
They use it because it is an easy, organized
way to solve everyday problems.
