Television Technology

Its 80 years since televisions first went on sale in the shops. you could have popped into your local electronics emporium and picked up a TV made by the Divan Corporation for the princely sum of $75.

1940The 1950s were a time when technology was important and just starting to take shape, but life was still simple. Television was becoming newly popular, and living rooms centered around the invention.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a number of large regional transmitters were built to extend the BBC's television service across the UK. As each region used a different frequency, manufacturers produced a different version of each set for each region. The 1950s were a time when technology was important and just starting to take shape, but life was still simple. Groundbreaking color television technology ultimately propelled Sony to the forefront of the consumer electronics industry in the 1960s. Though television already served as the focal point of most living rooms throughout America and Japan, color television was still a new and largely imperfect phenomenon. Recognizing room for leadership, Sony moved in.

Since November is National Inspirational Role Model Month, I thought it'd be fun to list some television wives I've admired over the years.Even though they are TV wives, in a TV world where everything's scripted and a happy ending is assured, there's wisdom and inspiration to be gleaned from their foibles, mishaps, and messes nonetheless. Because conflict, confrontation, and duress are guaranteed at some point during the half hour or hour time slot in which their shows run. That's what makes it entertaining: to see how they'll deal with, and eventually overcome, the problems they're faced with.

This Wood grain covered 20 inch color Television runs at 24 frames per second and is film friendly. Video input is through a UHF-F adapter attached to the UHF terminals on the rear of the unit.1980

Mr. Johnson spoke of the emerging and increasingly available technologies in the television industry. The new technologies that will be important for the next decade include high definition television, large screen television, and new telephone services through coaxial and fiber optic cables.1990

This set is quite a rarity. It's a 25" Baird 8724. It uses a first-generation Thorn 3000 single standard chassis. I bought this set from a great bloke called Haden from Wigand who had it in his back shed. The set needed a bit of work to get it into working condition, but now it has a superb picture and the tube, which was a little flat to start with, boosted well and has lasted OK up to now. 2000

At Samsungs European Regional Forum today, the manufacturers officially introduced three new TVs encompassing Super OLED, LED, and Plasma technologies.

A Best of Innovations Award Honoree.
