Centaurs Roman Name: Centaurs Originating from Kronos, the
Centaurs are mostly wild and savage. They roam the lands free from humans. They usually have grudges with humans. The exception is Chiron, a trainer of demigods like Hercules and Achilles.
Fun Facts• They are half man and half horse.

The Furies Roman Name: Erinyes
The furies are female spirits that were born from Ouranos and a relative of Kronos. They are spirits that want justice done upon sinners and crime-doers. They punish sinners, mainly ones that murder others and family. They reside with Hades in the underworld.

• There are 3 furies that reside with Hades.
• Their names were Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone.
• In heaven they were called Dirae, or ministers of divine vengeance, who punished the guilty.

Cyclopes were children of Gaea, and relatives of Uranus. They were gigantic, one-eyed monsters, and the first weapon crafters. They originally served Kronos, then were betrayed by him, sent to Tartarus. Zeus released them and then they served him, creating his Lightning Bolt. They now reside with the gods on Mount Olympus.
Fun Facts• They were about 100 ft tall or even bigger!
• They have three fingers.
• All cyclopes have horn usually 1 or 2.

The Gorgons, a group of once beautiful women now cursed with horrid ugliness, are known mainly for their ability to turn people to stone with a single glare into their eyes. These snake-haired monsters reside to the ultimate west near the ocean, guarding the entrance to the underworld.

Modern reference for The Gorgons This piece of machinery is
called the “Gorgon Stare Drone”. This advanced enemy surveillance system was created so a total of up to 10 ally troops can be provided with a full view of a time on a device the size of an iPad.
This drone applies to the ancient mythical gorgon because of its ability to view such a large area, leaving the enemies with stone-cold chills running down their backs.
Harpies Roman Name: Harpies
These 3 winged monsters, or demons, were sent by Zeus to retrieve the souls of the deceased. The harpies are primarily know for tormenting King Phineus and stealing his food.

• They were known to be the cause of wind storms.
• This trio of winged monsters were known as “The Hounds of Zeus”

This is related to the mythical harpy because of its ability to swiftly kill prey and the because ancient harpies were half eagle.
Medusa Roman Name: Medusa
Medusa, as one of the gorgons, was cursed with eternal ugliness and sent to guard the entrance to the Underworld. As the leader of the gorgons, she is know to be incredibly violent and extra frightening. Her most evil ability is known to be her ability to turn people to stone with a sing gaze into the eyes.

• Medusa was killed by Perseus when he cut her head off using her reflection on his shield.
• Medusa is another word for jellyfish in Greek, thus explaining why the snakes on her head may look a lot like tentacles.

is a medium size plant with lots of large tentacles.
This is related to the Greek’s version of Medusa because the large, “tentacles” on the plant symbolize the many viscous snakes in Medusa’s hair.
Satyrs Roman Name: Satyrs-Fauns Symbols-goats ears + legs
The Satyrs, a group of half man half goat creature, are seen mainly in the woodland and in the mountains with the god of wine, Dionysus. With him, they would accompany him in acts of drinking, dancing, playing the tambourine and the flute, and chasing nymphs.

monsters who can, for the most part, be considered harmless.
• He is the only monster with a symbol.
• There are only around three known tribes to be potentially dangerous around humans

Modern Reference for Satyr This butterfly, know as the Satyr, or
scientifically, Neonympha Mitchellii, lives primarily in the woodlands.
This relates to the Satyrs of ancient Greek mythology because for one, they live in the woods and ironically, satyrs would often spend time chasing nymphs in the woods, which just happens to be part of the butterfly’s scientific name Neonympha.
Cerberus Roman Name: Cerberus
Cerberus is a multi-headed hell hound who resides at the entrance to hell or A.K.A. the Underworld. Here, he/she prevents those who enter the Underworld from ever escaping and kills those who cross the river of Styx uninvited from leaving alive.
Fun Facts• It has been said that Cerberus
could have had between 1 to 50 heads.
• The only people that the dog respected were Hades, Persephone, and Hercules.
• The three heads of Cerberus desired only live meat
