Company OverviewB&W have been established in the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) construction industryfor 42 years. B&W are one of the largest specialist E&I contractors in South Africa.

B&W has worked and gained valuable experience in mining, oil & gas, chemical, utilities,renewable energy, power generation, industrial process plants and infrastructure. Thestandard of electrical and instrumentation construction varies from industry to industry andB&W have developed highly qualified teams to cater for the needs of our clients.

B&W hosts numerous complementary services ranging from field engineering, equipmentprocurement, material supply, testing and commissioning and maintenance services.

B&W acquired Pontins in 2009, one of the largest specialist suppliers of earthing andlightning protection services and have been in business for 43 years.

In B&W Southern Africa Corporate Social Responsibility is an important business priority and integral to our overall business strategy.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects are selected on social need and the extent to which they are aligned with our business and can add value to our clients and our communities.

Our policy is to identify worthy Social Economic Development (SED) projects in the areas in which we work. Our projects have proved highly successful, making a meaningful difference.

CSR to us is about building relationships with our customers, attracting and retaining talented staff, managing risk and building reputation.


Training

In response to the skills shortage in SouthAfrica B&W has invested substantially in thetraining of field labour to increase its skillspool. B&W has its own fully equipped in-housetraining centre based in Alberton and is anaccredited service provider throughConstruction SETA.

B&W has implemented training programmesin line with accredited SAQA unit standards toadvance employee skills and ensure traineesreceive an accredited qualification. Todetermine the appropriate skills developmentrequired B&W provides ongoing on-the-jobassessments. In addition long-term incentivesensure retention of core staff.

ISO 9001:2008

B&W operates in accordance with proceduresestablished to comply with the strenuous ISO9001:2008 quality requirements.

B&W are currently one of the only ISO9001:2008 accredited electrical andinstrumentation contractors in Sub-SaharanAfrica.

This accreditation not only provides newclients with the comfort that our existingclients have come to expect from us, butaffords us the opportunity of outside auditsby the SABS to ensure that the standards setare not only maintained, but continuallyimproved where possible.


CIDB Certification

B&W has an 8EP and 8EB grading. This would include major public sector projects such as those for Eskom.

Due to new regulations by the CIDB, certificates are no longer issued.

B&W CIDB number: 149138


BBBEE Status

B&W aims to bring about true broadbased empowerment. An Employee Trustestablished in September 2006 owns a7% stake in the company benefitingemployees with more than four yearsuninterrupted service, with an emphasison black staff (75% of benefits).

B&W is a comfortable ‘Level 4’contributor in terms of the draftDepartment of Trade & Industry’s BBBEECodes of Good Practice. Accordingly100% of client spend can be counted asspend with a BEE company.
