As the Chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth University I extend a very warm welcome to the students who aredesirous of seeking admissions in our different Constituent units.

Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent organization of this University is celebrating this year as its Golden JubileeYear. At this moment my mind goes back over a period of five decades. Bharati Vidyapeeth initiated its academic

journey with a single school. Now it is one of the premier educational institutions in the country, having underits umbrella more that 180 educational units including 80 colleges of 12 faculties. They include colleges of

Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Pharmacy, Hotel Management and the like. There may not be any disciplineseither conventional or emerging for which Bharati Vidyapeeth has not established its institution.

Within a short period of 18 years or so, Bharati Vidyapeeth University has established its academicreputation even across the national borders. Its high level of academic excellence is underscored by the fact thatthe Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has given 'A' grade status to thisUniversity. The University's another remarkable achievement is that it has been awarded a prestigious 'A'

grade by the NAAC both in its first accreditation and also in reaccreditation. An approval by the UGC underSection 12B of its Act which our University has received by another feather in the cap of the University.

We at this University are committed to make available to our students a wide spectrum of academic optionsto choose from.

It has also been our endeavour to provide continuously updated education in a congenial environment toour students. I am very happy that a very large number of our past students have established their reputation as

Medical Practitioners, Engineers, Pharmacy Industrialists and the like not only at the national level but also atthe international level. Research is a focal area of activities of our University. We have three Research Institutesas constituent units of University. They are doing remarkable work. However, our aim is to develop thisUniversity as a Research University.

Eligibility Criteria to Appear for DENPET-2014

i) The candidate must be an IndianNational.

ii) The Candidate must have passed B.D.S. examination from a Dental College recognized by Dental Council ofIndia.

iii) The candidate must have completed one year compulsory rotating internship on or before 31-03-2014. He / She will haveto produce a certificate of completion of internship before joining the course.

iv) The candidate should posses a permanent registration with any State Dental Council or Dental Council of India. If theregistration certificate is not submitted within one month after admission to the postgraduate course, admission to course willbe cancelled.

v) If a candidate does not fulfillany or all the above requirements or fails to pay the fees at the time of counselling, he/she willnot be considered eligible for admission irrespective of his appearing for DENPET2014 examination and securing a rank inthe merit list.

vi) Foreign / NRI / PIO/OCI candidates seeking admission for the Post Graduate Programme in the institution must procuretemporary registration by Dental Council of India for the duration of the Postgraduate training restricted to the DentalCollege to which he/she is admitted.

vii) Candidates who have passed Post Graduate Diploma course recognised by the DCI, of the duration of 2 years in particularspeciality will be eligible for admission in MDS in the same speciality and the duration of his/her MDS course will be 2 years.

The status of University was givento the cluster of these Colleges and Institutes in appreciation of the high level of their

academic excellence and for their potential for further growth. During the last 15 years or so, the Universityhas achieved still higher pinnacles of academic excellence and has

established its reputation to such an extent that it attracts students not only from various parts of India but also from abroad. According to a survey conducted by Associationof Indian Universities, this University is one among the top ten Universities in thecountry preferred by the overseas students for admissions. At present, there are more than 800 overseas students from 67countries on the rolls of constituent units of thisUniversity.

During the last 15 years, there has been tremendous academic expansion of the University. It now conducts in all 214courses in its constituent units,of them 107 are Post Graduate, 50 are Under Graduate and 57 Diploma level courses. All theprofessional courses which the University conducts such as those of Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering etc., have approval of therespective Statutory Councils, viz., Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, All India Council for Technical Educationetc.

Our Dental College was established in 1989 to fulfill aspirations of students from the region to obtain professional education.This was the first such private initiative in the state of Maharashtra. In 1993, the Dental Council of India recognized the B.D.S.degree of our dental college. Since then we have made great strides in terms of faculty, infrastructure and academic reputation.The college is housed in a building having an area of 207000 sq.ft. including Post Graduate and Research wing. All ourgraduates have made a name for themselves in practice, employment and higher studies; in India as well as abroad. We are veryproud and honoured to share thisinformation that the current year is being celebrated as Silver Jubilee Year of Dental College. Itisindeed an important milestone in journey of Dental College.

Recognition of this was the 'Deemed University' status grantedto us in 1996. In our pursuit to further raise standards of educationand research, the year 2002 saw us start postgraduate courses. The Governmentof India, on recommendation from the DentalCouncil of India recognized the MDS course in eight specialities. At present our total intake capacity is39. We also offer the Ph.D.

courses in Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, Periodontology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and DentofacialOrthopedics, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral Medicine and Radiology andPaedodontics and PreventiveDentistry.

We not only aim to make a competent specialist, but also to inculcate strong ethical values, an analytical attitude and skills forself-learning. The faculty and infrastructure have been strengthened to ensure achievement of these objectives. Many of our facultymembers have earned repute at national and international level- in academics, research and practice. Our institute organizesNational / International seminars, conferences & workshops at our premises for the professional betterment of students &staff.

We have provided ample space, and equipped our clinics and laboratories with modern equipment and materials. Our ownoperation theatre (besides full access to the advanced OT Complex of 870-bed Bharati Hospital), titanium casting equipment,ceramic fabrication systems, laser equipment, dental implant system, research microscopes and digital imaging systems are but afew examples. Besides specialitytraining, asa postgraduate student, you can look forward to training in basic medical and dentalsciences, Research Methodology, Biostatistics, Evidence-based methods, Computer applications and presentation skills. Youwillalso get training in multi-speciality and multi-system management of patients.

Regular continuing education programmes- to keep the students and faculty abreast with the latest knowledge, materials andtechniques- is a hallmark of our course plan. Excellent hospital and diagnostic facilities, an extensivecollection of resources in thelibrary, and teaching-learning aids and material in every department form the backboneof postgraduate training programme. Atransparent and continuous system of monitoring and evaluation is an important component of the programme. A large numberof patients with varied pathology, that our postgraduate students get to manage, shall give them the confidence required forindependent speciality practice.

Our Departments :

1) Oral Medicine and Radiology

The department deals with the outpatients and guides them to the respective departments for the treatments. The mainfunction is oral and maxillofacial evaluation of individuals/ patients of various age groups with oral conditions. Also theevaluation and diagnosis of oral manifestations such as ulcers, gr owths, pr eca ncer ous conditions, oral ma ligna ncies,neurological pains, jaw fractures, developmental anomalies etc are done in the department. Non surgical management of oralprecancerous lesions and precancerous conditions, TMJ disorders and salivary gland disorders etc are effectivelymanaged. The department also attends to making radiographs of various kinds, including all intraoral and extraoralradiographs, as well as advanced radiographic techniques such as orthopantomogram and cephalogram etc.

The department now boastsof advanced radiographic techniques and the incorporation of computers and three radiographicmachines along with an OPG machine with a cephalometry attachment, general body radiography unit, digital radiographysystem, CR system etc. The followup of cases is done routinely by the department with constant motivation and education, whichhelps in maintenance of records as it isan important factor for any institution, and it further helps for epidemiological studies also.

Since the beginning, the number of outpatients has been constantly increasing and now there are almost 15000-20000

patients per month reporting for dental care with varied pathologies.These numbers reflect the successful functioning of thecollege as well as the amount of patientsatisfaction. The department, in collaboration with the Department of Public HealthDentistry,runs a tobacco intervention initiative(TII) Center for the benefit of the patients. 2) Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery forms an important component of the dental hospital as theprocedures carried out in this department include exodontia, minor surgeries, biopsies , and advanced surgeries includingorthognathic surgeries, management of cysts and tumors surgically, oral malignancies and dental implants, fracturereduction and advanced procedures like management of cleft lip and cleft palate.

Emergency casualty team is presentin the casualty section at Bharati Hospital on a regular basis. The trauma center of thisdepartment caters to the emergencies of accident cases where transfer of patients from the ambulances to theoperation theater is done smoothly and swiftly from the casualty entrance to the operation theatre via speciallydesigned ramp.

With the aim of providing treatment to indoor patients, the department of Oral and MaxillofacialSurgery has also developed afully functional stateof the art operation theatre complex equipped with surgical and adjunctive gadgets. These include surgicallight systems, cardiac monitors, pulse oxymeters, cautery systemsetc. The patients being operated in the above mentionedcomplex are also provided with recovery rooms following their surgical procedures with constant monitoring. Furtherhospitalization needs are well taken care of in our spaciously designed wards in Bharati Hospital. A special provision is alsobeenmade for hospitalization of patients being treated for major surgeries as well as those requiring special attention. The facilitiesavailable at Bharati Hospital including intensive care units, blood transfusion, and neonatal care are also utilized by thedepartment as per requirement.

The full spectrum of caseswith maxillofacial diseases is treated at our state of the art hospital, including microvascular surgicalreconstruction, distraction osteogenesisand complex cranio-facial surgeries.

3) Department Of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry

The department deals with the child patients and concomitantly preventive dentistry. It also incorporates themanagement of difficult children, the physically and mentally challenged ones in addition to the medically compromisedchildren.

The new building provided us an adequate space to have exclusive sections for the post-graduate and undergraduate

clinics, in addition it also gave scope for separate isolation room, conscious sedation room, sterilization room andspacious toy room. Additional dental chairs were installed in view of the expansive functioning of the department .Thedepartment hosts advanced equipments comprising of RVG, Conscious sedation unit and intra oral camera etc.

Further the department thrives on an excellent work force in collaboration with Public Health Dentistry department. Thisdepartment constantly engages in conduction of school dental awareness programs in the form of dental checkups camps,lectures etc.We take pride to saythat the department is associated with Young India and RotaryClub for conduction of camps andtreatment of children from various schools and orphanages by providing to and fro transport for thesame.

4) Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics

The provision of various treatment procedures begin with training to the students on simulators. The department has ahuge phantom head laboratory with simulators and complete assembly for appropriate training concerned with differenttreatment modalities.

The treatment modalities rendered in the department include restorative procedures for carious teeth and otherdefects of the teeth like fracture, erosion, abrasion, etc. Various aesthetic treatments like diastema closure, veneers, smiledesign, tooth whitening etc are rendered to the patients at subsidized rates. The department improves the smile of thepatients that helps to enhance the confidence and self esteem of the patients who are conscious about their oral health andappearance. Endodontic treatment is rendered in teeth having pulpal diseases. Every attempt is made to save the badlymutilated

Some cases require advanced treatment procedures like complicatedRCTs, hemisection, radisection, apicectomy,splinting,conservative bridges, indirect aesthetic restorations like porcelain/ composite inlays and onlays, veneers, endodontic surgery.Excellent provision forall these procedures is available.

The department has all advanced gadgets like endosonics, operating microscope, composite furnace, and physiodispense r ,various obturating systems like thermafil, guttaflow and advanced digital radiography like RVG. The department has wellequipped isolated operatory for surgical endodontic procedures as well as well equipped ceramic laboratory and casting

5) Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

The department has now come to be known as one of the best in the country. The PG clinic contains individual workingcubicles for every operative clinician. Each cubicalis well equipped with respectto armamentarium and cabinetry. The entire clinicis air-conditioned with central music system. A separate area of sterilization has been demarcated to keep up with changing

paradigms of sterilization. Thereis a separate area for counseling of patients and parents and discussing the treatmentplans. The department of Orthodontics organized the 12th IOS and 1st SAARCPG convention in November 2007. The convention

was well attended with over 800 delegates from India and abroad. Well known speakers from India and abroad delivered guestlectures and organized hands on courses, which were beneficial for understanding recent trends in orthodontic treatmentprocedures which help in better management of patients.

With the aim of providing prompt and state of art treatment to patients, the department of orthodontics has a fullyfunctionallaboratory with Acryliser, Hydrolic Bench Press,and Biostar etc. Other advanced equipment includes a state of art sand blastingunit, dentaurum welders and physiodispenser.

6) Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge The department of prosthodontics caters to the clinical services to various patients, majority of them are elderly. In this

department there is fabrication of complete dentures, cast partials, and crown and bridge prosthesis are undertaken,andthe advanced procedures done in the department are maxillofacial prosthesis, obturators, immediate dentures,dental implants and titanium castings. A fully equipped laboratory with ultra modern attachments like-air rotor, micromotor, three way syringes are provided for students (postgraduate/undergraduate) to perform the preclinicalexercises on phantom heads making exact replica of patients in the absence of patients.This gives the studentsan expertise andconfidence when actually working on patients. There isprovision for the fabrication of the prosthetic appliances and restorationsin the laboratory which is well equipped with all the facilities, for casting and the ceramic work.

7) Periodontology The department of Periodontology has three specious sections viz. undergraduate clinic, post graduate clinic and

surgical section. This makes us possible to work more efficientlyand also treat more number of patients at one time. The basic treatment modalities rendered in the department are oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, splinting, localdrug delivery, periodontal flap surgeries, gingivectomy and advanced sur gica l pr ocedur es like periodontal plasticsurgeries, regenerative procedures, implants, and sinus lift procedures. Separate surgical operatory with requiredfacilities is available in the post graduate section so as to fulfill the needs of the patients beingattended.

8) Oral Pathology and Microbiology The department comprisesa basic field of knowledge to be correlated with clinical application. The emphasis is to provide

pertinent biological information, which can serve the dental student as fundamental source of clinical knowledge. Sincebasic science forms the basis of all clinical sciences, an accurate update of basic physiology becomes part and parcel ofgood dental education.

Guidance and demonstration from the staff, perfectionism and precision are sought after. It is here that knowledge ofvarious structures- both at gross and at cellular level in health and diseases is imparted. The department has separate postgraduate clinic and histopathology and hematology laboratory. The histopathology laboratory is equipped with a set upfor basic investigative pathology that includes- aspiration biopsies, tissue biopsies, exfoliative cytology, differential staining,microbial staining etc. The laboratory has state of the art PentaHead Microscope where five students can learn at the sametime from the instructor.

Different casesof mucosal lesions, soft and hard tissue swellings, andoral manifestation of systemic diseases, oral infection,white lesions, oral premalignancies and malignancies are reviewed; confirmed diagnosis is given and referred for further courseof treatment. The Dept. boasts of a large number of patients in the OPD as well as advanced equipment. There is a well equipped preclinical laboratory with ample phantom head units. The aim and object of dept. is to produce post graduates with high moralintegrity, ethics, clinical skill as well as sound researchacumen.

The treatment modalities offered in the department includevarious restorative and Endodontic procedures. Restorative

procedures like composite restoration, silver amalgam, glass ionomer restoration are done to restore carious teeth. Variousaesthetic treatments like diastema closure, laminates, veneers, smile design, tooth whitening, etc. are rendered topatients at subsidized rates. Advanced endodontic procedures like complicated root canal treatments, hemisection,radisection, peri radicular surgery, apicectomy, indirect aesthetic restorations like porcelain/ composite inlays andonlays that require expertise are also offered by thedepartment.

Admission Procedure

1. The admissions to M.D.S. Course to the Bharati Vidyapeeth University Dental College will be made on the basisof merit obtained by the candidate in dental postgraduate entrancetest i.e. DENPET-2014.

2. Eligibilityfor subsequent admission : The candiate should secure at least 50% marks in DENPET-2014. The candidatebelonging to SC / STshould secure at least 40% marks in DENPET-2014, in addition to the eligibility criteria mentioned onpage 6.

In case of candidates having equal marksin DENPET-2014 the following procedure shall be adopted as a tie-breaker :

(i) Firstpreference to the candidates on the basis of higher marks obtained in the final B.D.S.examination.

(ii) In case of equal marks in (1) above, preference will be decided on grand total of marks secured by the candidate at I,II,III and final B.D.S.examinations.

(iii) If equal, preference shall be decided on the basis of total marks secured by the candidate at the XIIStd. examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects takentogether.

(iv) If equal, preference shall be decided on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidate in theXII Std.examination.

3. In case the applicant for admission is foundto have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is notice later that he hasindulgedin ragging,admission may be refused or he shall be expelled from the educational institution

DENPET-2014 INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDID ATES

CONDUCT OF THEDENPET-2014

1. The Test willbe conducted at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Dental College & Hospital, Pune-Satara Road, Pune -411 043. and on the addresses of the respective centres. The candidate must report at the centre atleast 60 minutes beforethe time of commencement of examination.

2. THEEXAMINATIONHALL WILL BEOPENED 30 MINUTES BEFORE THECOMMENCEMENTOF THETEST. CANDID ATES ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE THEIR SEATS15 MINUTES BEFORE THECOMMENCEMENTOF THE EXAMINATION. IF THECANDIDATESDO NOT REPORTIN TIME THEY ARE LIKELYTO MISS SOMEOF THE GENERAL INSTRUCTIONSTO BE

ANNOUNCED INTHEEXAMINATIONHALL.

3. A candidate who comes late by 30 minutes or more after the commencement of the examination will not be permitted toappear for the examination.

4. The candidate must show, on demand, the admission card for admission to the examinationhall. A candidate who does notpossess the admission card issued by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune will not be admitted to theexamination hall under any circumstances by the CentreSuperintendent.

5. A candidate will not be allowed to carry any textual material, printed or written, bits of papers or any other material exceptheadmission card inside the examination hall. Also, candidates will not be permitted to bring calculators, slide rules, Clerktables, electronic watches with facilities of calculators, laptop computers, personal stereosystems, walkie-talkie sets, paging

devices, cell phones and any other object/device that is likely to be of unfairassistance.

6. No candidate, will be allowed to go outside the examination hall till the completion of the entire duration of examination. Once the candidate leaves the room (even if only to answer a call of nature) he/she will not be readmitted under anycircumstances.

7. Candidates are advised to bring with them a card board or a clip board, on which nothing should be written, so that theyhave no difficultyin writing responses in the answer sheet even if the tables provided in the examination hall do not havesmooth surface. They must have their own blue or black ballpens.

8. Smoking in the examination centre is strictlyprohibited. Beverages or snacks of any kind are not allowed to be taken intotheexamination halls during examination hours.

9. Candidates shall maintain complete silence and attend to their paper only. Any conversation or gesticulation ordisturbancein the examination hall shall be deemed as misbehaviour and if a candidate is found using unfair means or impersonation,his/her candidature will be cancelled and he/she will be liable to be debarred for taking examination either permanently orfor a specified period according to the nature of offence.

10. During the examination time, the Invigilator willcheck the admission card of the candidates to satisfy himself/herselfaboutthe identity of each candidate. The invigilator willalso put his/her signature in the place provided in the Answer Sheeton

After completing the Test and before handing over the Test Bookletand the Answer Sheetto the invigilator, the candidateshould check again that all the particulars required in the Test Bookletand the Answer Sheet have been correctly written.Ensure that theRoll Number is correctly written in the answersheet.

12. A warning bell will be given at the beginning of the examination and at the half-time. A warning bell will also be given beforethe closing time when the candidate must stop marking theresponses.

MODE OF THE TEST

13 Theexamination will be of 3 hours duration and will consist of one question paper of600 marks consisting of 200 questions.

14. The test isof objective type. The candidate willbe provided with a sealed Test Booklet andan Answer Sheet. Thecandidatewillwrite with ball point pen the required information regarding: Name and Roll Number on the Test Bookletand on the AnswerSheet.

15. In the Test Booklet, therewillbe 200 questions serially numbered from 001 to 200. Each question willbe followed by fourresponses marked (A), (B),(C) and (D). Of these four responses only one will be the correct or the most appropriate

response. Each correct answer willget 3 marks. There isno negative marking. No marks willbe deducted for unansweredquestions.

THE ANSWERSHEET

16. A specimen copy of the Answer Sheet isgiven with this brochure. Candidates are advised togo through it and be conversantwith the requirement of giving particulars and marking the answers so that during the examination they coulddo so withoutany difficulty, mistake or loss oftime.

17. The Answer Sheet usedwill be of special type which will be scanned on Optical Scanner. There will be two sides of theanswer sheet.

18. The candidates are advised to decide about the answer before they mark it on the answersheet. He must ensure that theboxis completely darkened with pencil or blue of black ball point pen only. Separate merit listsof Regular and Foreign / NRI/ PIO / OCI / ManagementCategory of the candidates shall be displayed at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Dental College & Hospital,Pune-Satara Road, Pune - 411 043 and at offices of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University at Pune, Navi Mumbai & NewDelhi and also will be available on website at www.bvuniversity.edu.in. Reasonable number of candidates in accordancewith the merit will be informed and called for counselling.

COUNSELLING AND ON-THE-SPOT-ADMISSIONSESSION

1. The counselling and on-the-spot admission session will be held at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, DentalCollege & Hospital, Pune-Satara Road, Pune -411 043 on the date and time communicated to the candidates as per themerit list.

2. Only the candidate and one parent/guardian will be allowed into the hall where counselling isheld. The candidates willbecalled in the order of their merit and offered the seats available at that point in time. The candidate will be permitted tochoose any of the seatsavailable when his/her turn comes.

3. When all the seats in a given course are filled, admission of students to that course willinstantaneously cease and BharatiVidyapeeth Deemed University will not be responsible for non-availability of the seats and non-allotment to the rest of thecandidates.

4. At the time of reporting for the counselling, the candidate is required to produce all the documents (original and two sets ofphotocopies) listed in above application procedure. If the candidate is admitted to any of the courses, thesedocuments will be retained by the Universitytillhe/she completes the course. If the candidate fails to produce the documentslisted in application procedure , he/she will instantaneously forfeit his claim for aseat.

5. Physical presence of the candidate at the counselling is mandatory. The choiceof course made by the candidate is finalandbinding and will not be altered later under any circumstances.

6. If any candidate finds it impossible to be physically present for the counselling due to unavoidable circumstances, he/she

may authorise any other responsible individual to represent him/her at the counselling. This representative must carry withhim/her the letter of authorisation in the format given in Annexure III,as well as AnnexureI and II, and all the documentslisted on PageNo. 19 &20 If the candidate or his representative fails to report for the counselling on the date and the timeasmentioned in counselling letter, his claim for admission to any of the courses will be forfeited. The choiceof course made bythe candidate / his / her representative will be final and binding and will not be ordinarily altered later.

In case of cancellation of Admission the Refund policy will be as follows :

(1) In the event of student withdrawing before the starting of the particular course, the entire fee collected from thestudent, after a deduction of the processing fee of Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees One thousand only) shall be refunded.

(2) If a student submits his application for cancellation of admission in a prescribed form (duly completed) within 15calendar days from the date of commencement of the particular course, 10 percent of total amount of tuition feesprescribed for the course will be deducted from the amount of tuition fee paid by him and the balance amount will berefunded.

(3) If a student submits his application for cancellation of admission in a prescribed form (duly completed within 30calendar days from the dateof commencement of the particular course, 20 percent of the total amount of tuition feesprescribed for the course will be deducted from the amount of tuition fee paid by him and the balance amount will berefunded.

(4) If a student submits an application for cancellation of admission after 30 calendar days from the date ofcommencement of the particular course, no refund will be made and Rule (5) may alsobe invoked. However, if theapplication for cancellation of admission is submitted before the last date prescribed for admission, and ifthe vacatedseat is filled by another candidate, 25% of the amount of tuition fees prescribedfor the course willbe deducted fromthe amount of tuition fee paid and the balance amount will be refunded.

(5) If any student admitted to any course leaves the course after the prescribed last date for admission of the particularcourse no refund will be made and he will be required to pay full amount of tuition fees for the remaining entireduration of the course.
