April Membership Luncheon Review

Marketing with Millennials held on April 10th at the Creekside Conference &

Event Center provided members with insightful information into the communication nuances of a Millennial. With panelists Carly Turcu, Two

Men and a Truck, Ursula Marioth, ITT Technical Institute, Chris Branham, KEMBA Financial Credit Union and program

moderator Ron Smith, President/ Founder of SOH Productions who opened the meeting with these notable statistics.

Millennials are the roughly 65 million Americans between the ages of 18 and 34. This is a coveted demographic for brands and merchants. They spend a lot of money, even if they have little discretionary income.

Most Millennials are college-educated. They have an unemployment rate in excess of 15% — counting those who have dropped out of the labor force and are no longer looking for work. A substantial number are underemployed, working only part-time. Yet their spending habits do not reflect their financial reality. Most are not interested in saving.

While Millennials spend heavily on clothing, food, electronics and entertainment they often have little interest in owning houses or automobiles. Online shopping is certainly more convenient than purchasing at your traditional walk in retail store and Millennials are very comfortable doing a

substantial amount of purchasing online.

52% of them are more likely to make an impulse purchase. 78% of Millennials are more likely to select a merchant with a loyalty program than one without one. Though many brand manufacturers and retailers fret that Millennials exhibit no brand loyalty, these shoppers will continue to show interest in a brand that continually rewards them. It also helps if their friends and those that influence their buying decisions provide buzz on social media sites about a particular brand. Millennials are typically users of coupons and always look for deals before purchasing.

Mobile devices and social media are an integral part of their lives and they rely heavily on both for product and price information. According to a survey conducted by Research Now, 58% of Millennial respondents acknowledged engaging in showrooming, nearly 10 % more than older shoppers. And over 19 % of Millennial shoppers have been in a store and purchased an item via their mobile phone from a different retailer while still in the store, twice the rate of all other respondents.

Special thanks to Creekside Conference & Event Center, program sponsor, WesBanco Bank, exhibitor and Paula Megert, Mid Ohio Strategic Technologies, our greeter.

Be Prepared for Changes Coming to BWC Changes to Incentive/Premium Discount Program Enrollment Deadlines

In continuation of the “Billion Back” campaign from the summer of 2013, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has announced additional changes to come this year and in 2015.

A “Billion Back” was a one-time dividend released to eligible private and public taxing districts equating to $1 billion in June 2013 and completed in October 2013. It was made possible because the financially strong Ohio State Insurance Fund exceeded the target funding ratio of assets to liabilities established by the BWC Board in 2008.

Included in the Billion Back campaign was a plan for the BWC to transition to a prospective billing system that will align it with standard industry practices. The transition is effective for the July 1, 2015 policy year for private employers.

To implement, BWC has changed the incentive/premium discount program enrollment deadlines. For private employers, the enrollment deadlines are listed below for the 2015 policy year:

Through our workers’ compensation third party administrator, CompManagement, Inc., your organization can see how participation in a program will impact your costs as well as how these programs can be stacked together to achieve the maximum savings available for your organization.

Don’t miss your opportunity to be evaluated for participation in an incentive/premium discount program. Discounts vary by program but are as high as 53%, which was the maximum discount allowed by BWC for the 2014 policy year.

The time to act is now due to the earlier enrollment deadlines for the 2015 policy year. Take this free, no-obligation opportunity to explore your options today!

Simply complete the Temporary Authorization to Review Information (AC-3) form available on the Gahanna website, or contact CompManagement at (800) 825-6755, select option 3 and speak to a customer support representative.
