It has always been challenging for a university to play its role in bridging the gap between thetwo inevitable constraints vis-à-vis labor supply and demand. A well thought and plannedstream of placement efforts is a panacea which has proven viable and feasible to bridge thisgap.

BUITEMS undertakes to keep itself at par with an emerging trend of campus drive as anecessary tool for better placements of their fresh graduates, interns, and young alumni inregional and intra-provincial network of corporate companies. These efforts reduce the gapbetween academics and regional and local industries. Accordingly, the University also hopesthat these bridging efforts will lead to minimization of unemployment percentage in the localand regional economy. It strategically directs itself for laying out the platform via campus drivefor placements to consistently support the attitude and passion towards acquisition of dreamjobs for its students.

On another dimension of this drive, the University is getting more knowledgeable andabsorbing, by closely monitoring the hiring strategies and tactics of corporate employers tostreamline their teaching methodologies congruent and conjunctive to have better share injob placements.

BUITEMS imbibes its strength from its academia and this fact serves as an academic legacyfor the University. This manifestation is vividly evident when one of the pillars of academe isrecognized for lifetime dedication and commitment to outstanding teaching.

The richly deserved honor of Lifetime Achievement Award to our senior faculty and mentoris definitely a momentous rectitude and pride for BUITEMS. The Lifetime Achievement Awardrecognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in leadership,teaching and service over a period of 25 years or more. These distinctions are made basedon job performance, service at the regional, national or international levels, and throughservice to the society, in general.

Thanks to the BUITEMS family and itsleadership, BUITEMS has the honor that itobtained 95% score in the recentQuantitative Assessment of Internal QualityAssurance Mechanism conducted by theQuality Assurance Agency, HigherEducation Commission for the period fromJuly 01, 2014 to June 30, 2015. The ViceChancellor extended congratulations toBUITEMS family for achieving thismilestone, extending special thanks to theDirectorate of Quality Enhancement and Accreditation BUITEMS for support and hard work.

On January 04, 2016 Al-Musawir Group with the help ofBUITEMS Manager Career Services Mr. Imran Khan conductedCampus Drive to recruit fresh graduates from department of CivilEngineering. Fifteen students were shortlisted for interview and six graduates were offeredjobs of entry level.

BUITEMS Business Incubation and EntrepreneurshipCenter (BBIEC) conducted its first batch induction

This was an effort tolaunch new startups, who would be working for 12months with BBIEC.The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Mr. AhsanIqbal, Federal Minister Planning Commission ofPakistan. HEC intervarsitymale basketball tournament finalround was played at Institute ofBusiness Administration (IBA)Karachi main campus BasketballArena, on January 8-10, 2016.

BUITEMS basketball team alsoparticipated in the event. Overalleleven universities from all overPakistan participated.

The faculty of ICT bid farewell to the year 2015 and welcomed2016 on January 14, 2016 over a potluck lunch. The whole facultygathered at the Research Center, Sir Syed block. The menu had

variety of traditional and continental dishes along with a wide assortment of sweet dishes. Therewas a panel of judges to select the most delicious dish each from the main course and thedessert. Dr. Mumraiz won in the category of main course and Mr. Waleed Kehtran was the winnerin the dessert category. The evening followed an ending note by the Dean FICT, Dr. Faisal wherehe warmly welcomed the new inducted PhDs and said farewell to Mr. Mahmood Baryalai andMs. Rahila Umar who were leaving for their Ph.D. studies. He offered his gratitude andappreciation to the entire faculty and wished a great year ahead.

(BBIEC) organized Improve Your Business Training (IYB) fromJanuary 18-22, 2016. The resource persons for the training were Mr. Muhammad Shah KhanDirector UA&FA; Mr. Nisar Ahmed Executive Manager BBIEC; Mr. Shah Muhammad ManagerUA&AR, and Ms. Zarlasht Rehman Manager Trainings. They discussed various elements suchas business system, planning for business, marketing, simple systems for keeping records, buying& stock control, buying well for business and managing relationships with suppliers. The trainingalso included a counseling session to improve businesses by exploring other opportunities, lookingat job placement and advanced education and vocational training programs.

A three-day workshop onPerformance Enhancement ofFinancial Aid offices was conducted at Higher Education Commission Islamabad under USAID-merit and needs based scholarship program (MNBSP) on January 19-21, 2016. Ms. Kinza Khan,Manager Financial Aid BUITEMS attended the workshop as member from the partner university.The objective of the workshop was to improve the capacity of the financial aid officers of partnerinstitutions who are concerned with the implementation of MNBSP. Forty participants from acrossPakistan participated in the workshop. The highlights of the workshop were the active involvementof USAID officials, Ms. MarisolPerez, Deputy DirectorEducation Office USAID; PriyaM. Cariappa resident legalofficer USAID and Ms. CarrieAntal, USAID Monitoringspecialist shared the informationabout the USAID funding inPakistan and legal aspectsassociated at both governmentlevels.The participants of the workshoptermed the content important asit would enable them toimplement the programobjectives, effectively. Annual IEEE congress of South Pakistan was held onJanuary 21, 2016, at DHA sunsetclub, Karachi. The purpose of thecongress was to review theperformance of 35 IEEE branchesof universities of South Pakistan.IEEE BUITEMS branch wasrepresented by Chairperson IEEEBUITEMS, Mr. Shehzar ShahzadSheikh who briefed the membersregarding the overall performanceof IEEE branch BUITEMS. The Higher Education Commission (HEC)Pakistan organized a workshop on theapplication and usage of Student WebPortal System of the Prime Minister'sTuition Fee Reimbursement Scheme at itsSecretariat on January 22, 2016.

The workshop was held for therepresentative of universities from the lessdeveloped areas of Sindh, Balochistan andGilgit-Baltistan with an aim at providingpractical guidelines, tools and tips regardingthe Portal System, as the entire system ofPrime Minister’s fee reimbursement schemehas been automated.

Mr. Ahmed Mujtaba student of BUITEMS hada challenge fight in his weight category onJanuary 22, 2016 at Manila, Philippines. Mr.Abdul Qadeem Kakar Additional RegistrarAdministration accompanied him as aManager. The challenger was Mr. Kodian ofPhilippines. Mr. Mujtaba showed his martialart skills and knocked out his challenger in twominutes and won the match, victoriouslyretaining his title.

All Pakistan Intervarsity FootballChampionship (Zone-I) was held on January23-26, 2016 at Balochistan University onbehalf of Higher Education Commission(HEC). University teams from all acrossBalochistan participated in the qualifyinground of the tournament. Zone I consisted ofUoB Quetta, LUWAMS Lasbela, BUETKhuzdar, BUITEMS Quetta, UoT Turbat, IqraQuetta and AIU Quetta.BUITEMS Quetta and UoB Quetta qualified for the final round which was held on February 23,2016 at COMSAT University, Islamabad. The UoB won the final match of the qualifying round.BUITEMS football team was headed by team manager Masood Ahmed Kasi, Coach ShoaibAhmed Baloch and team captain Bibarg Khan. Top eighteen universities from all over Pakistanparticipated in the final round after the qualifying round.

Complying with the special directive of the Prime MinisterPakistan for Quality Assurance and Good Governance in

Degree Awarding Institutions (DAI’s), a team ofexperts visited BUITEMS on January 28, 2016.The main purpose of their visit was to observeand ensure that university’s policies and practicesare according to the defined quality assurancecriteria. The members of expert panel includedDr. Zulfiqar Ali Meimon, Associate Professor, IBA,Sukkur; Mr. Moin Uddin, Director QualityEnhancement Cell, IBA, Karachi; and Mr. SaleemQamar, Assistant Director, Quality AssuranceAgency, HEC, Islamabad.

The Director QE&A BUITEMS Dr. Zahid Raufgave a brief presentation about theUniversity. The expert panel verified all thedocuments provided by QE&A team andreviewed it against the set standardsprescribed by HEC’s Quality AssuranceAgency (QAA).The review panel also had an exit meetingwith Vice Chancellor BUITEMS and sharedtheir findings about the University. The panelappreciated the efforts of the staff and faculty members for their contribution in educationaland socio-economic growth in the province.

All Pakistan Intervarsity Body BuildingChampionship 2015-16 was held at theUniversity of Central Punjab, Lahore underthe supervision of Higher Education Commission,Pakistan on February 1-2, 2016. The openingceremony was held on February 1, 2016. Seventythree players from 15 universities participated inthe event. BUITEMS team was represented by:

The body builders from various universitiesshowed their skills and scored points for differentstyles and positions they posed. MuhammadSaeed of BUITEMS got third position in AllPakistan Senior category among 18 players inthe class. Board of ArchitecturalEducation Institute ofArchitects Pakistan

Karachi Chapter (BAE IAP) incollaboration with Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) and Centre for Architectureand Urbanism, Macau (CURB) organized an international workshop on February 8-12, 2016at Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi. The young teachers training workshop was themed tofacilitate and strengthen the capacities at studio management. The resource persons for theworkshop were Nuno Soares and Thomas Daniell, Director and Coordinator, respectively,for the Department of Architecture and Design at CURB.The workshop was one of the series of capacity building training conducted by the Board of

Architectural Education hosted byInstitute of Architects Pakistan. (HEC) organized 26th Master Trainer-Faculty Professional Development Program (MT-FPDP)in collaboration with the Learning Innovation Division (LID) in HEC, Islamabad from Nov 16,2015 to Feb 15, 2016. Mr. Irfan Ahmed Magsi, Lecturer Information Technology departmentwas among the twenty-six participants of the program.

The program comprised training modules that were delivered by specialists in respectiveareas. The program included appointments, panel discussions, presentations by academicsand administrators (related to higher education) and visits to eminent universities. The chiefguest Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC, distributed certificates among the participantsin the closing ceremony on Feb 15, 2016.

Dr. Syed Zameer UlHassan, AssociateProfessor Department ofTextile Engineering BUITEMS, was invited as a session speaker in the Second International

Textile Conference organized byTextile Engineering Department, NEDUniversity. The conference was heldon February 17-18, 2016. Theguests in the training were Mr.Abid Hussain ManagementExecutive Employment & Enterprise DevelopmentUnit and Mr. Naqeebullah Tareen Senior ProgramOfficer Balochistan Rural Support Programme(BRSP).BUITEMS Vice Chancellor Ahmed Farooq Bazaistressed on the importance of communitydevelopment in the current dynamic and challengingenvironment in which the organizations perform. He

commented that such capacity building programs would help communities to achieve theirgoals by taking the right decisions and implement those with a vibrant and skilled workforce.He also thanked Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) & BRSP for their initiative.

The Directorate of HumanResource Development organizeda two-day training workshop on February25-26, 2016 on how to conduct effectivemeetings. The training was attended byBUITEMS administrative officers gradeBPS 17 and 18. The program aimed atproviding extensive session andcomprehensive information to the mid-linemanagers about their role and contributionin conducting meetings.The first-day session’s resource personwas Mr. Manzoor Hussain, AdditionalRegistrar HR and Academics, who focusedon preliminary quantitative aspects of the meetings such as why we conduct meetings, typesof meetings, agenda, planning, and ways & means for writing meeting minutes.

The second-day session, conducted by Mr. Muhammed Shah Khan DirectorUA&FA, mainly focused on the qualitative aspects of meetings such as

ethics, psychological dimensions and the responsibilities of chairmanand secretary of meetings. The certificate distribution ceremony took

place on Monday, February 29, 2016. The chief guest was ViceChancellor BUITEMS Ahmed Farooq Bazai. He appreciated thecontent of the workshop and shared his views that all thedirectorates must conduct regular meetings and share their actionplan and advised on the improvement of coordination among thedirectorates to improve the overall work quality of BUITEMS. Six 8th semester students of Departmentof Chemical Engineering completed afour-week internship at Pak Arab Refinery(PARCO) from February 01 to 28, 2016.During the internship, students gainedpractical knowledge about crudedistillation process (CDU), vacuumdistillation unit (CDU), Asphalt air blowingunit (AABU) and Diesel hydro di-sulfurizing unit (DHDS). Theylearned how differentproducts i.e. LPG,

petrol, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene and other products are fractionatedfrom crude oil. Also information was disseminated about differentgrades of Aphalt; various Asphalts used for making roads, airportsand motorways.The students were also familiarized with techniques to remove sulfurfrom diesel in DHDS unit which may otherwise cause a problem forauto vehicles.Student Rizwan Ullah Baig got Best Intern Award which is awardedto the outstanding student among the interns.

Training on EffectiveManagement of Digital Hub

was organized on March 1-4, 2016 byBUITEMS Executive Education Center(BEEC) at Takatu Campus Quetta. Thetraining was organized for the personnel ofBalochistan Rural Support Programme(BRSP).An exclusive session was held onunderstanding and developing BusinessPlan for Digital hub business. Theparticipants were briefed about theeffectiveness of digital hubs which ensuresustainability of the Local SupportOrganization while ensuring ample ruralconnectivity and profits for their

sustainability and socio-economic uplift. The content of the training also revolved around whatand how of survey. In the final session trouble shooting and issues in installations werefocused and an interactive session was held which was greatly appreciated by the participantsand they raised many queries which were answered by the trainer.The resource persons from BUITEMS were Syed Shah Muhammad, (Manager UA&AR);Junaid Khan (Assistant Professor) and Zubair Zaland (Assistant Professor). Dr.Shahwani chaired a session onCommercialization of Science &Technologies and also presented hisresearch on establishment oftechnologies for growing exotic grapenursery plants under controlledHydroponic conditions withsupplementing artificial nutrition andgrowth hormones in a short time span compared to conventional ones.During the Summit, Dr. Shahwani call upon the higher officials from Different Universities,including Vice Chancellor University of the Punjab (UoP), Rector University of Managementand Technology Lahore, and President Chamber of Commerce Punjab, and briefed themregarding the role that BUITEMS is playing in promoting Education and Socio-Economic upliftof the Region. on March 3, 2016, headed by Director UA&FA BUITEMSMr. Muhammad Shah Khan. BBIEC is providing office space to the selected firms for a periodof one year to start their businesses. The candidates would be required to sign an agreementfor one year and agree upon the terms and conditions regarding the rules and regulationsset by BBIEC Management for the admission in BBIEC. Director UA&FA expressed hisconfidence in these joint efforts and commitment, and that BBIEC would be able to continueto develop even stronger startups in Balochistan.

BUITEMS Executive EducationCenter (BEEC) organized trainingon Presentation & Public Speakingfor the staff of National Database &Registration Authority (NADRA) on March8-10, 2016 at Takatu Campus. The trainingwas aimed at facilitating the participantsregarding the essential functions andimportance of public speaking. His areas of researchinterest include Quantales, Localic Groups, and Non-Classical Logics.In the same ceremony the first Abdus Salam Shield of Honour (ASSH) was awarded to Prof.Dr. Hassan Azad. The Abdus Salam Shield of Honour was created by the NationalMathematical Society of Pakistan in April 2015 in order to take the Pakistani Mathematicalcommunity on track of quality research. Dr. Siddiqui is founder of the Department of Architecture at University of the Punjab.He commented that the Department of Architecture at BUITEMS is making similar progresswhich he had witnessed before at his Campus in Lahore.

Dr. Siddiqui also delivered a lecture to the students and teaching faculty of the Departmentof Architecture in the Green Seminar Hall. He admired the innovative approach of studentsin carrying out their projects and appreciated the highly advanced facilities provided to thestudents within and outside the Department. The Government of Balochistan incollaboration with Pakistan Armyorganized Balochistan Sports Festivalon March 22, 2016. The Inauguralceremony was held at Ayub Stadium,Quetta. Governor Balochistan Mr.Muhammad Khan Achakzai, along withthe Chief Minister Balochistan, NawabSana Ullah Zehri, and CommanderSouthern Command Lt. General AmirRiaz inaugurated the festival. BUITEMSVolunteers rendered their services asvolunteer organizers of the event. Theircontribution was highly appreciated bythe Governor, the Chief Minister, andthe Commander Southern Command.

Government of Balochistan organized 3rdSports Festival on March 22, 2016 which was

inaugurated by Governor Balochistan Mr. Muhammad Khan Achakzai. The event started witha march past of six divisions, Quetta city, University eleven and Girls colleges distinguishedby their varied sports-gear colors. University eleven was headed by Deputy Director SportsBUITEMS Mr. Masood Kasi.

After oath taking, the Balochistan Sports Festival torch was lighted by Mr. Ayub Dar ex-CaptainPakistan Football team. Later on, students of different colleges and schools presented variouscultural dances of Pakistan. The Directorate of Human ResourceDevelopment organized a training workshopon Importance of Job Description (JD) and itsimplementation on March 24-25, 2016 forOffice Managers of the University.The workshop comprised four sessionsconducted by Mr. Manzoor Hussain AdditionalRegistrar BUITEMS and Prof. Dr. MuhammadNawaz who introduced and discussed variousaspects of JD. Mr. Manzoor HussainAdditional Registrar BUITEMS discussed indetail the technical aspects of job description and their importance in an organization.

Second day sessions were conducted by Dr. Muhammad Nawaz whodivided the participants into small groups and assigned to each group

the task of preparing job description of one administrative position.After a thought provoking exercise the group leader of each group

presented the job description prepared by the group. Thereafterthe JDs so prepared were compared with JDs prepared byBUITEMS HR section.

In the closing ceremony, the group leaders proposedsuggestions for further improvement of job descriptions. Prof.Dr. M.A.K. Malghani distributed certificates among theparticipants and resource persons. Training ended with a vote
