Exercise 1:
Pass and Move / Break Up and RebuildGoal: This s occer drill helps develop players' reaction ability, soccer vision and
cooperation. This progression also aims to innervate the movements of players to build
uid possession.
Organisation
Cones are placed about 10-12 meters a part as shown to form triangles. One or two groupof three are involved in this s occer passing drill. Teams o f three are working together with
one-one ball.
Description
This s occer passing drill is p layed by a group of three. Players s tand next to the cones
creating a triangle. One of them holds t he ball so that the others c an create a triangle.
After the rst pass i s m ade, the player who served the pass h as to move from one cone
to the other to break u p and rebuild the triangle. The player who gets t he ball must
consider the movement of his t eammates and pass t he ball to o ne of them. After the pass

Possession /Barca #t$le/ %Goal: This so ccer passing d rill emphasises innervating c hanging p ositions in p ossession
and developing p assing-receiving skills. The passing exercise also focuses o n
cooperation, developing cognitive abilities, movements o ff the ball and endurance. This
complex soccer passing drill helps t o build up a short passing style o f the team and
innervate a uid playing style.
Organisation
Place four cones as sh own. Distances m ust be adequate to the age g roup. There are two
players i n positions B and C and one player in positions A and D. Players ch ange
positions c ontinuously b etween position B - C and they change positions p eriodically in
positions A and D. Players s tart the soccer drill from position A and they perform the
soccer drill with one ball.

Innervating Changing Positions in Possession /Barca Style/ 4: Player A begins the
progression. Players A and B switch after a o ne two p ass ( 1,2) and Player B opens sp ace
by moving o ut from his p osition. Player A performs a s harp p ass ( 4) to P layer C who lays
the ball back ( 5) in angle to P layer B. Player C moves t owards and o pens space o n the
left side of his t eam-mate (Player B). A long sharp pass ( 6) is p erformed by Player B to
Player D who passes t he ball (7) t o Player C. Player C plays (8) P layer B who towards the
ball (9) t o Player D. Players ch ange between B and C positions.

possessing and two defending. Changes b etween defenders an d a ttackers ar e
continuous i n every b reak. Repetitions a nd the load of the game depend on the l evel ofthe players' technical skills, endurance, the age group and the supposed aim. Take care
to a void too much load a nd stop the play when needed.
Description
Players i n possession try t o keep the ball. Attackers have to move continuously. After
performing a pass p layers h ave to change the grid and with that movement he strips the
shape of the triangle so other two must have to react and construct the shape with
movements. Defenders' activity should be raised continuously, but it is important to beginthis s occer drill by p assive defending role.

Coaching PointsTo be able to perform this small sided soccer drill successfully games should be played
on an adequate area for di fferent age groups. We always have to consider the players’
technical skills and their co gnitive abilities. Besides this the quality of the pitch is also
very important. If it’s n ecessary we can change the size of the area during the game.

midelders. This s occer game also focuses o n practising cooperation of players w hile
possession and helps to teach the defending role and building fast breaks after an
interception.
Organisation
Players a re split into two teams o f eight. The area is m arked by c ones a nd it is d ivided
into four equal squares as s hown. One defending and o ne attacking (possession) team
are named. Teams c hange role periodically. The goalkeeper is a lso involved in the
exercise.
Description
This soccer tactical game is a functional exercise to the 4-3-3 playing system. It can be
played in other formations a s w ell but the set up of the players m ust adopt to the chosen
formation. The three midelders act in all four squares. Full backs are responsible for onearea. Wingers move in two squares o n their sides. The central attacker helps i n two grids
to create the 5v3 situations. The players i n possession have to try to perform some good
passes in a square and change the grid with long passes when they are not able to keep
the possession in that square.

attack and score a goal. The players i n posssession have to try to win back the ball right
after l osing it.
Coaching Points
This so ccer drill requires t he p layers' huge c oncentration a nd p resuppose of a g ood
quality o f tactical knowledge. The size of the area must be adequate to the age-group
and the technical - tactical level of the players.
