Building a XanEdu CoursePack

1. Register at www.xanedu.com

• Go to www.xanedu.com and click Register under Faculty.

• Verified university and college faculty register for free with XanEdu.

• Faculty choose a username/password combination during registration.

2. Log in at www.xanedu.com

1. Enter your username/password combination.

2. Click Go.

3. Arrive at Your My XanEdu Page

1. Click Create to build a CoursePack yourself.

Other My XanEdu options:• Ask XanEdu to create a

CoursePack for you.• Modify an existing

CoursePack.• Access XanEdu

4. Create a New CoursePack

1. Click Modify Course Information to enter information about your course.

After you enter a title for your CoursePack, the CoursePack Editor opens.

5. Enter Your Course Information

• XanEdu needs your course and institution information before you can adopt your finished CoursePack.

• We’ll use that information to make your CoursePack available for your students to purchase.

6. Delivered to Students Your Way• Do you want your

students to have online access only? Or online access plus a packaged print copy?

• Do you want your students to buy your CoursePack online at xanedu.com, or in a specific bookstore?

• Do you want your CoursePack to be available to other faculty at your institution?

• Click Submit when you’ve completed the form.

7. Rename the Default First Topic

1. Click Modify Topic Title.

2. Enter your title.

3. Click Done.

8. Add More Topics

1. Click Add New Topic.

2. Enter a topic title.

3. Repeat steps 1. and 2. to add more topics.

9. Add Content to Topics

1. Click the title of your first topic to select that topic.

2. Click Add Content to Topic.

3. Select Search Articles, Cases, and other documents.

10. Search Our Collections• Enter one or more

words and click Search.

• Use the additional boxes and the drop-downs to build Boolean searches.

• Click Search ProQuest Databases to go to our powerful ProQuest search interface.

• Can’t find what you need in our collections or in ProQuest? Click Request Copyright Clearance and we’ll get it for you.

11. Your Search Results

• Click Add to add the corresponding item to your CoursePack.

• Click a results list item title to display the item.

• Your results list by default includes all matching documents from all collections.

• Click a tab to view only those results of a particular content type, such as Book Chapter. The number of matching items for each content type appears on each tab.

12. Your Search Results (continued)

• Beneath the tabs, click a link to view only those results from a specific collection.

• Use the drop-down at the top of your results list to sort by: most relevant, chronologically, or alphabetically by title.

• For any item in your results list, click Expand this item to view any available detailed citation and abstract.

• Click the ProQuest tab to run your search against the ProQuest databases.

13. Using the ProQuest Interface

1. Click Search ProQuest Databases in the banner at the top of the Search or Search Results page.

2. Enter one or more search terms.

3. Click Search.

14. ProQuest Results — Add an Article

1. Scroll through your ProQuest search results.

2. Click the Add button corresponding to an article that you want to add to your CoursePack.

Tip: Click the article’s title to open the article.

Tip: Click Help while in ProQuest to learn about search methods and features.

15. Return to Your CoursePack

The articles are now in your CoursePack.

Tip: Click an article title to open the article.

Tip: Click near the article’s title to select it. Then use the buttons above the article to open, annotate, move, copy, cut, or delete the article.

16. Add an Internet Link

1. Click Add Content to Topic.

2. Select Internet Link.

17. Enter a URL and a Link Name

1. Enter the URL (Internet address) of the site.

2. Enter a meaningful name that will appear in your CoursePack.

3. Click Done.

19. Add a ReSearch Engine

1. Click Add Content to Topic.

2. Select MBA ReSearch Engine.

• Hierarchically-arranged topics and subtopics.

• Topics that get progressively more specific until a list of relevant full-text articles is retrieved.

• An invaluable research tool for faculty and students.

21. Add a ReSearch Engine

1. Scroll the list of available disciplines within the ReSearch Engine that you selected.

2. Click the Add button corresponding to the discipline that you want to add.

Tip: Click the ReSearch Engine name to open it.

23. Attach a Note to a Content Item

1. Move the cursor over the item that you want to attach a note to.

2. Click Attach Note.

Notes can be addressed to students, or to other instructors if you decide to let other faculty at your school use your CoursePack.

24. Create Your Note

1. Enter your note text.

2. Click OK.

25. Your Note is AttachedA push-pin icon indicates that your note has been attached to the item.

Tip: Click the push pin to open the note.

Tip: With the item selected, the Delete Note and Edit Note buttons are available.

26. Copyright Clearance Services

1. Click Add Content to Topic.

2. Select Articles, cases, and other documents.

All content items from XanEdu Collections—including ProQuest—are copyright cleared. If you want a document that you cannot find in either of those sources, we can copyright clear it for you and insert it into your CoursePack as a PDF.

27. Copyright Clearance Service

1. Click Request Copyright Clearance in the banner at the top of the page.

1. Complete the online form, entering as much information as you have about the item.

2. Click Submit.

Tip: Use the tabs to select the appropriate content type. The entry fields will change accordingly.

29. Your Clearance Request is Added

• A placeholder for your clearance request is added to your CoursePack.

• The associated icon indicates that copyright clearance is pending.

• Depending on the publisher, the clearance process can take up to eight weeks.

• XanEdu will insert the item into your CoursePack as an Adobe Acrobat PDF when clearance is secured.

30. Organize Your Topics and Items

• Use the buttons directly above each topic to move or delete a topic.

• Use the buttons directly above each item within a topic to open, annotate, move, copy, cut, or delete an item.

31. Include or Omit Specific Items

• Select the check box labeled Include in CoursePack to make the item available to students in your adopted CoursePack.

• Deselect the check box labeled Include in CoursePack to omit the item from your adopted CoursePack.

32. Save Your CoursePack

1. Click Save at the top of the CoursePack.

Tip: If you have made changes and 10 minutes has elapsed since you last saved, the Save button will subtly shift from white lettering to magenta to yellow, reminding you to save.

33. Preview Your CoursePack

1. Click Student Preview at the top of the CoursePack.

Tip: Although your CoursePack is automatically saved when you preview, it’s still a good idea to click Save regularly while you work in the Editor.

34. The Student Preview

• The preview shows how your students will experience your CoursePack online.

• Although pending copyright clearances are visible in the preview, they will never be included in a finished adopted CoursePack. They will be replaced by the cleared item itself.

• Click Modify to return to the CoursePack Editor.

35. Adopt Your CoursePack

1. Click Adopt at the top of the CoursePack. The Course Information form will display.

36. Verify or Enter Your Course Information

• If you entered your course and institution information when you first created your CoursePack, simply click Adopt. If you want to change any information, click Edit.

• If you did not already enter your information, complete the form, click Submit, and then adopt.

37. Finish Your Adoption

After verifying that all of your CoursePack information is correct, click Finish to complete your adoption.

38. Congratulations!

• Your adopted CoursePack is now available in the Adopted list on your My XanEdu page.

• XanEdu will contact you by email with instructions concerning online or bookstore availability and purchase of your CoursePack by students.
