The Pacific Science Center inspires a lifelong interest in science, mathand technology by engaging diverse communities through interactive andinnovative exhibits and programs.

The Pacific Science Center needs and identity and promotional pieces for anupcoming exhibit The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fullers Ideas for Today.Thevisual language of the event package needs to reflect the nature of the exhibit.

Create a visual language across multiple media outlets to educate the

    pubic about the event.

Use shape, color and repetition to create a look and feel that can beused in multiple forms of print and web advertising. An interactiveinsert was created for Seatt le Met to bring the audience into theexperience before attending the event.

    DEMOGRAPHIC

The main demographic this event trying to reach is: architects, designers andother intellectuals who are design conscience. These people tend to be youngerworking professionals who work at places such as Amazon, Microsoft and Adobe. They live in neighborhoods like South Lake Union, Magnolia and Bellevue.

This demographic has young children and the exhibit is a good way for theyounger generation to be exposed to Modernism and architecture. BuckminsterFullers ideas have influenced modern technology as well as architectural designand the interactive exhibits are a great way to engage the young family.

Seattle Science Center looks at Buckminster Fuller's legacy

Architecture and design exhib ition links fuller' s radical idealism to local innovators inspi red by his v isionary th inking

From June 13th through June 30th, 2013, the Pacific Science Center and Boeing IMAX Theater will present The Utopian Impulse:Buckminster Fuller's Ideas for Today, the first exhibition to consider Fuller's design legacy. The presentation will feature some 65 works, including prints, drawings, photographs, documentary video, books, models, and ephemera representing some of Fuller's most iconicprojects alongside those by designers inspired by his philosophy.

The Utopian Impulse opens by introducing Fuller, primarily with prints from the Inventions: Twelve Around One portfolio (1981), aswell as several key works on loan from the R. Buckminster Fuller Archive at Stanford University. The gal lery includes projects datingfrom the late 1920s through the mid-1970s paired wi th his most well-known ideas from the portfolio, such as the 4D House (1928),a hexagonal autonomous dwelling meant to be optimally resource efficient and mass producible from factory-made kits that could

be easily shipped anywhere and quickly assembled on site. Extending this optimization to transportation, Fuller's ultra-light three-wheeled Dymaxion Car (1933) featured unprecedented fuel efficiency and an aerodynamic, t eardrop shape, which was de termined incollaboration with boat designer Sterling Burgess. While these projects held promise in efficiency, fabrication techniques available atthe time could not produce a viable design for mass production.

The exhibition also presents several of Fuller's big-picture ideas, including his World Game project, which he initiated in 1965.Conceived as a data-visualization system meant to facilitate global approaches in solving the world's problems, Fuller intended thepiece to "make the world work, for 100 percent of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, withoutecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone."
