‘Bucket List’ and ‘About Time’: is there anything in common?
A few weeks ago I watched the film ‘About Time’. Although both the trailer
and the poster were too cute, I did not make a mistake that I had watched it. And this
film seems to have veiled thoughts, just as one of my favourite films has. ‘Bucket
List’ is a film which has a high position in the list of my favourites. Despite the fact
that ‘About Time’ is about the couple who is in love and ‘Bucket List’ is about two
friends, these two films have a lot in common. However, ‘Bucket List’ and ‘About
Time’ seem absolutely opposite.
One obvious difference is the plot. The main plot of ‘Bucket List’ follows
two terminally ill men make a wish list of things to do before they die. Despite the
events happen in their lives, they try to make the wishes come true. ‘About Time’ is a
British film revolving around time travel where a young man tries to change his past
to have a better future with his beloved.
The other difference is the topic of the film. Two protagonists of ‘Bucket List’
are in their ages, so they can only appreciate what they have and make the rest of
their lives brighter and emotional. On contrary, the main hero of ‘About Time’ is a
young man and he can plan his life correctly. He has an opportunity to make every
moment unforgettable and remember these moment. Moreover, this man can come
back to the past and change the event in case he regrets of wasted time or a lost
chance.
In spite of these differences, these two apparently opposite films have
similarities.
On the surface at least, ‘Bucket List’ and ‘About Time’ have similar genre.
Both ‘Bucket List’ and ‘About Time’ are comedy-drama films. It means that both
films are comedies, but have serious and significant points of view and have drama
elements. Not only ‘Bucket List’, but also ‘About Time’ remain bright emotions and
motivate for further actions.
A final and the most important similarity is the main idea. Both ‘Bucket List’
and ‘About Time’ teach to value the time which are given to people. ‘Bucket List’
makes to understand that the real price of time can be appreciated only being not far
from death. The main idea of ‘About Time’ is that in real life people do not have such
an incredible opportunity to travel in time and change the events. Therefore, it is
advisable to make the life brighter and feel the moment!
To sum up, it should be noticed that in spite of having a lot of differences, both
‘Bucket List’ and ‘About Time’ reveal the same problem. But these two films show
the problem of appreciating time in two different sides.
