About the Group

Abert S.p.A is a leading company in the Italian market for the production of cutlery andholloware for home and HO.RE.CA table.It also has a presence in the more signiLcant markets world wide. In fact , today, the ex-port of products in Abert Group reaches over 93 countries.The Group was established in 1929 with the family Bertoli, present in the current direc-tion. From 1929 till today many goals have been achieved and numerous innovationscontinue to bring successful results with a turnover of approximately 30 millions Euro.The core business is in the production and marketing of cutlery under ABERT andBROGGI brands, which differ for positioning and channels of distribution.The know-how and the tradition, linked to the capacity of innovation and to discover newmarket niches are certainly winning values of the Abert Group.

Company Structure

The following numbers offer us an idea of the size of the group.Here are the Lgures up-dated in 2009:

• 160 people between workers, employees and management.• 300.000 pcs is a daily production capacity with the use of industrialisation processesand systems.

• 40 million pcs is annual production capacity.• 3 production units, which cover a surface of about 40.000 m2, 15.000 m2 are dedicated to the production and polishing, the rest is dedicated to the packaging and wa-rehouse.

The History

In 1929 Antonio Bertoli founded ABERT, located in Lumezzane (Brescia) where they star-ted to produce craft made cutlery and when the brass was the prime material. In 1960sproduction was completely industrialized and consequently the phases of production au-tomated. Innovation gave the strength to manufacture products on a large scale. In the1970s ABERT was the Lrst company in the world to automate the production process ofthe cutlery with coloured handle, combining steel with newmaterials, such as ABS, nylonand wood. The assortment of products increased exponentially along with the experienceof new materials and new design lines. The company grew and over 10 years, it was ne-cessary to build a place, adapted to the new requirements. In 1987 the new headquar-ters in Passirano (Brescia) was inaugurated, and the main group activities wereconcentrated in one plant. For logistical needs in 1992 was acquired Facix Srl, a smallcompany of cutlery that allowed the group to expand the production and to acquire anew brand. Another important acquisition took place in 1993 when BROGGI 1818 be-came part of group. BROGGI 1818 is a prestigious company that produce cutlery andholloware; having a long tradition in the HO.RE.CA highest quality, they gave the op-portunity to enter the new distribution channels. Then the reality of the group changedand it was therefore necessary to consolidate their organizational structure, and makethe processes through well-deLned procedures. In 1994 ABERT was the Lrst company intheir Leld to obtain the CertiLcation of Quality ISO9002. In the last years, between 2000and 2002, they have rearranged the logistical productive structures by the constructionof one new manufacturing area (10.000 m2) in Passirano and a single logistic pole for allthe brands of the group (25,000 m2). Furthermore the polishing and Lnishing of metalstook place at a third area of 3,000 m2. This reorganisation has improved the competiti-veness of ABERT S.p.A on themarket, thanks to a greater Mexibility, service and attentionto the customer requests.

BROGGI1818 over a century of life…

The origins of BROGGI 1818 date back at the beginning of 1800 in the handicraft labo-ratory of Gaetano Broggi, which produced cutlery, holloware and sacred silver items in theheart of Milan. Broggi laboratory was entrusted the responsability and honour of silver-plating all the accessories in the occasion of the marriage of the Duke of Savoy.Initially the production of the laboratory was exclusively craftmade and it was limited toitems made by hand on commission. Towards the beginning of 1900s it started a morewide production, with the use of newmachineries (lathes, polishers etc). And with a greathonour BROGGI obtained the status of "supplier of the Royal House", following the im-plementation of some precious objects at the wedding of Vittorio Emanuele II, the futureking of Italy; also the Viceroy Ranieri of Hapsburg ordered for himself and for his familyprestigious silver items. The production of silver items increased and new technologieswere introduced like the electro-plating which improved the appearance of the products;the application of precious material sheets Lxed by Lre on the metal; the introduction ofa standard production of cutlery in valuable materials by the turning of objects to ovalshape. The fame of BROGGI was spreading throughout Europe, through important com-missions to particularly luxury Hotels: Hotel confortable in Milan, Hotel Continental inMilan, Hotel Bellevue in Baveno, The Splendid Hotel Du Aix-les-Bains in France, Hotel Ex-celsior in Rome and Hotel Excelsior in Naples, The Grand Hotel in Rome and the Re-staurant Orologio in Milan. The production grew, with new products to an importantsupply in the Real Italian Navy. Furthermore, it added the supply to other naval forces, theInternational Company ofWagon Lits, the Colossus transatlantic Rex and Conte di Savoia.At the beginning of 1900 BROGGI employed 250 peoples and was equipped with cut-ting-edge technologies. In the 1950s the BROGGI silverware continued to adorn themostprestigious tables in the world. Today BROGGI 1818 boasts almost two centuries of hi-story and production in the Leld of silver: the collection is reproducing the "classic style"that has left a mark in the silverware tradition throughout the world, but at the same timeoffers a wide range of new models, functional design, in order to satisfy any request. Atthe present time BROGGI is a perfect combination between tradition and innovation,between classicism and modernity, through a production that keeps some hand mademanufacturing unchanged.

The raw materials used by Broggi 1818BROGGI 1818 use for their own production the following precious materials:

ELECTRO-PLATED NIKEL SILVERSOLID SILVERSTAINLESS STEEL

Electro-Plated Nikel Silver

Well known and called "German Silver", "electroplated nikel silver" or "nikel silver".This is a very valuable alloy of copper, zinc and nikel very similar to the touch and weightto solid silver. The high concentration of nickel in this alloy selected by BROGGI 1818improves the mechanical and corrosion resistance giving the impression to be similarto solid silver for warmth and value.In the past this metal alloy has been frequently used raw for the production of cutlery.Today electro-plated nikel silver is used for the cutlery and holloware and the silver-pla-ting is exclusively made with solid silver to 999.99‰ obtaining a result equivalent to asolid silver product but at costs signiLcantly reduced. The Lnishing is glossy and shiny.

Solid Silver

BROGGI 1818 make use of solid silver to 999,9‰ in silver-plating the products. Silver isan inert metal that reacts in contact with residues of food, alkalis and acids only if leftfor several time.The surface glossy and brilliant of the silver-plating is very pleasant and enriches thedecor of the table. Solid silver is a very versatile and soft material; because of its soft-ness is virtually impossible to use this type of material even for the production of itemsfor the table. In fact normally solid silver is an alloy, generally to 800‰ or the 925‰ ofsolid Silver combined with copper or with nickel, which give it a greater hardness.The silver used for silver-plating is almost solid silver therefore more valuable and rela-tively soft, easy to scratching.

Stainless Steel

For the implementation of the products BROGGI 1818 use the best stainless steel:

AISI 304 ( stainless stell 18/10)AISI 402 ( Martensitic stainless steel )

Stainless steel derives its name from the ability to resist stains and corrosion at a higherlevel than ordinary steel. These resistant properties are by the presence of chromiumand chromium/nickel in the alloy.The oxides of these elements form a protective Llm, very thin, on the surface of thesteel. This Llm is very thin, transparent and invisible to touch. Being a Llm almost inert,insoluble into water and/or in many other chemical solutions and therefore waterproofagainst them, it plays a protective function on the solid steel.

The basic concept is that:as long as this Llm is still intact and Lrmly adhering to the surface, the product is pro-tected by any corrosive attack.

Silver Plating Process

The Customization

BROGGI boast an exclusive patrimony of trademarks, escutcheons, engravingsand friezes, thanks to their capability to study unique solutions together withthe customers.

The silver plating process of BROGGI products is made through the electrolytic treat-ments practicable by mean of galvanic baths.The items are prepared and silvered in sequential series of tanks having different andspeciLc functions.The silvering in fact is preceded by some phases of polishing, degreasing and pre-sil-vering of the individual pieces and, for the nickel-silver articles, also by a phase of nic-kel-plating. The purpose of the latter is to increase the "clinging capacity" allowing thesilver to join perfectly in a lasting way the surface of any object immersed in the galva-nic bathroom.The silver used for the electrolytic silvering is solid silver to 999, 99‰ duly spread overeach individual piece to form a double thickness on the sides subject to wear and tear.Each piece is subject to ergonomic studies performed to high thickness (generally from8 to 24 µ) and distinguished according to the use and wear foreseen. The result of Lni-shing is the one of solid silver, glossy and shiny.The quality management system also provides strict process controls and product whichare carried out and registered systematically during and at the end of the silveringstage. The pieces silvered by BROGGI are guaranteed without time limit and againstany production defect. It is also ensured the continuity of the manufacture of all themodels for every possible reinstatement during the time. Anyway it is recommended,for a perfect maintenance of the products, to follow the maintenance rules recom-mended by BROGGI 1818.

The Customization of the Product

BROGGI products are craft made and therefore they offer the possibility to cu-stomize each item with the own logo or escutcheons.
