Information Services Levy

The ICT Levy is not directly related to device provision, and is billed with school fees to contribute

towards infrastructure such as: -

• network

• print/copy

• storage

• software

BYO Devices - where to start?

While the device choice is up to the end user we provide recommendations and guidelines on

the devices we believe are the best for teaching and learning and have a number of purchasing

portals that have added benefits such as onsite repairs.

Minimum Device purchase information

Students in years 7-12 will require a device that enables the following functions:

• Device running Full Version of Windows 8+ or Windows 10

(Apple Devices OSX no longer supported due to software capability)

• Wireless must meet modern 5ghz standards (Dual Band)

• Battery life for the duration of the school day 7hrs+

• Must have a keyboard

• Must have support to install and run the Office 365 & Adobe CC Software

• Local Hard Drive must have at least 128GB (256GB Recommended for IT/ITD)

• Warranty 3 years (Recommended)

• Accidental Damage Protection (Recommended)

• Touch Screen with Pen Support (Recommended)

Do I need more than one device?

While this is optional if you are using an E-Book / Online Textbooks or simply looking up a

website or updates on the IGS Schoolbox App. A Secondary companion device may be

useful.

Ipswich Grammar has engaged several vendors to give you a selection of what the school

believes to be the best devices for Teaching and Learning. Vendors such as ACER also

offer onsite repairs with their devices and can be logged for repairs at the IT Helpdesk.

devices & specifications we have listed above. Make sure you are aware of the

Do I need to purchase software?

Software listed below is included and available from a software page in our schoolbox.

Backup & Security OneDrive will have some protection in place as active data lives both on your PC and the

Cloud. IGS use and recommend adding Veeam to back up the whole PC to an external

source at home. (this could be a NAS or External Hard Drive)

Windows 8/10 comes with some base line Antivirus Software and provides protection

providing you keep all windows updates installed. For enhanced protection over Windows

Defender here are some recommended alternatives.

Storage

Ipswich Grammar School has made provision for Storage and file management by

providing multiple storage locations based on Student & Teaching requirements.

• Office 365 gives all students 1tb

• Our Learning Management System 1Gb

• Citrix users & Desktop users will also have available the legacy H: drive for storing data.

User Account Maintenance

Passwords to access the network will need to be updated on a regular basis. Passwords will

need to meet the following criteria:

• Minimum of eight (8) characters.

• Must include at least one (1) number and one (1) capital letter in password.

• Password will be case-sensitive.

• Will be required to change every 180 days.

Expectations

• All use of personal devices should support student learning and will be utilized at the

discretion of the teacher.

• Students are to take responsibility for the condition and upkeep of their personal devices.

Devices brought to school should be fully charged.

• Incomplete tasks due to devices being left at home or a fully discharged battery are

the student's responsibility to finalize through negotiation with their teacher.

• Loss of data will not be an excuse for work not being submitted on time and will have to be

redone.

• It is the student's responsibility to ensure all data and shared files/assignments are

backed up on USB flash drive or external hard-drive at home or cloud storage (e.g.

OneDrive for Education - Office 365).

• Access to the internet is a vital component of the ICT Enhanced Learning

implementation and places the emphasis for correct and proper use squarely with

the students and parents. The following policies outline the intended and expected

behaviour associated with the values of Ipswich Grammar.

These policies are available on schoolbox under ‘polices’.

– Student Bullying Prevention Policies

– Student Bullying Reporting Policy

• Any user suspected of inappropriate or unlawful use, or jeopardizing the reputation of

Ipswich Grammar School or its property will be required to provide thus device for

inspection by I.G.S. staff. This may also lead to further disciplinary action under the

School's Discipline Policy.

Our Learning Management System

Schoolbox provides students with access to information relevant and personalized to them and

their family.

• This includes;

– Communication

– Access to IGS Calendar

– Student Timetable

– Class and group (such as sport and activities) information.

Our IGS Mobile APP

To use the App, simply login using your existing Schoolbox Username and Password.

The IGS App is designed to allow Ipswich Grammar School parents, teachers and students to access important

information about events and daily activities at the School.

The App includes the following features and information:

• Notifications: Receive personalised information relating to you and/or your child as a push

notification. As default you will still receive School-wide notifications in addition to any groups that

you have joined.

• Calendar: The event calendar ensures that you are constantly up-to-date and in the loop with the

events of Ipswich Grammar School. Not sure when a Sports Event is on? Check the calendar.

• Due Work: Parents and students will be able to view when and what assignments and assessments

items are due.

• Timetable: Students can view their personal timetable and click through to their class pages.

• News, Notices & Events: The notification and news sections keep you informed of important daily

events as they become available. Push Notifications will also be sent to inform you of any urgent or

important information. Buses are late? The notification section will alert you.

• Contacts: Call and email important contacts. Want to speak to the reception? Call them straight from

the App.

• Newsletters: Receive the latest newsletter directly through the App, or peruse the newsletter archive.

• My Groups: View groups that you belong to instantly through the new IGS App. This feature will

allow you to manage what groups you have joined or subscribed to.

• Join Groups: The ‘join groups’ feature allows you to select and subscribe to an interest group that

you would like to receive notifications on. Groups include sports activities, music and other extra-

curricular areas.
