Do you know that…
• Modern contact lenses were invented by the Czech chemist, Otto Wichterle?
• The word robot has Czech origin. It was introduced in 1920 by the Czech writer Karel Capek in his drama R.U.R..
• Christian Doppler began work at the Prague Polytechnic (now the Czech Technical University), where he received an appointment in 1841. A year later, at the age of 38, Doppler gave a lecture to the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences and subsequently published his most notable work, Über das farbige Licht der Doppelsterneund einiger anderer Gestirnedes Himmels, where he postulated his principle .

1. The new StyLit software can generate realistic hand drawings
A new tool for automated 3D image stylization, StyLit, has beendeveloped by doc. Daniel Sýkora´s team. It can faithfullyreproduce artist´s style, creating a realistic synthetic painting. Theunique software is more sophisticated than any currently availablecommercial tool.

2. Invention: Rolling fluid turbine
A bladeless turbine developed by Ing. Miroslav Sedláček and marketed since 2015, promises to change how water current istransformed into electrical power, expanding application ofhydropower technology to a myriad of previously untappedsources, including ocean tides and small brooks.

3. Biomechanics of human voice – human Vocal Folds Prosthesis
• The voice source is modelled by self-excited oscillations of vocal folds caused by air-flow coming from lungs, as well as acoustic pressure modified by frequency-modal properties of the human vocal tract during phonation of vowels.
• The research team was awarded by the Grant Agency.
• They continue in their research towards a vocalfolds prothesis.
4. Unique cloud chamber to CERN
The unique device makes radioactivity visible to naked eye. It has bee produced under the framework of the Nebula start-up by students Ondřej Zbytek and Ondřej Svoboda from the Faculty ofElectrical Engineering, along with Valery Mezentsev from theUniversity of Economics. CERN had ordered production for thedevice from the students and it is now on display at theMicrocosm exhibition in Geneva.
