Unfortunately due to the rain on Thursday morning, KGO have had to postpone their Spring Walk until Thursday 22 March at 1pm. Luckily for KGR the rain stopped and they enjoyed their walk and photographs of this are in the Bulletin too. Year 5 and 6 went off to Harry Potter World yesterday and had the most amazing time, which I am sure they shared with their parents last night. I am looking forward to reading some of their inspirational writing next week! Tuesday was our Year 5 Secondary Transfer evening, I would like to thank all parents who attended and those involved in preparing such an important evening. I was sorry not to have seen more parents as this is an important event put on especially for our Year 5 parents. I know those who did attend found the evening informative and useful and came away feeling a little more confident. It was good to welcome so many of our Secondary Heads and Representatives and to meet them on home ground. Please try to remember what Mrs Manley said about “Staying Calm” and let us ease the stress for you. We have many Secondary School brochures that Heads kindly left, so please speak to Mr Duke if you would like further information. There was also a very useful PowerPoint presentation giving key dates and facts about what parents need to do next. If you were not able to attend, please ask the office for a copy of all of the handouts from the evening. Finally I just need to wish you a wonderful weekend and enjoy St Patrick's Day tomorrow. On Friday 23rd March 2018 Breaside School will be supporting Sport Relief byraising money to help change the lives of people both at home in the UK andacross Africa. We would like each child to donate £1 to Sport Relief and in doing so they canwear, to school, their PE kit for the day with either an official Sports Relief t-shirt (if their parents want to buy one from Sainsbury's or online atshop.sportrelief.com) or a red t-shirt? (No school uniform required on thisday.)There will also be the opportunity to participate in our Sports Relief play-ground mile challenge, various sporting fun activities on the playground atbreak time and during PE sessions too.

We really appreciate your support and hope that your child will have fun helping our school raise lots ofmoney for Sport Relief.

Pre Preps Behind the Scenes Tour of CoolingsOn a beautiful sunny spring morning, Pre Prep went on a “Behind the ScenesTour” of Coolings Nursery, at Rushmore Hill, Knockholt.

Everyone was very excited and once we were all safety fastened in our seatbelts, we were soon on our way with Miss Jackson our M.C. and Luke singing“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!

It wasn’t long before we were welcomed by Jane Wiseman who works atCoolings and has visited Breaside to share her vast knowledge of plants andhow to grow them successfully.

First of all Mrs Wiseman showed us around the main shop and then we wentoutside to see all the wonderful plants and herbs which we were allowed totouch and smell. We carefully walked around, keeping ourselves safe walkingwith our grownups to the part of the nursery the public aren’t allowed toaccess. There were so many wonderful things to see and learn about, including the impressive planting robot called “Sharon.” When we got back toschool, it was clear the visit had made a huge impression on the children andtheir knowledge as they couldn’t wait to share their memories of the day withtheir teachers.

Here are some of their comments:“We saw water called a reservoir.”- Jadesola“The water was green!” – Emre“They recycle the water in the reservoir.” – Shaan“The water comes through the pipes.” – Grace“Sometimes the flowers need some light.” -Florence“We saw the Planting robot too! - Caleb“We were planting soil in the pot.” “We wereputting the seed inside.” – Miko“Did you know - we said people like plantsand plants like people.” – Anna“I saw Daffodils, daffodils are yellow!” –Arden“Plants in the desert are called cactus.” –Shiven“I saw Jane holding a cactus. They growwith cowboys in the desert!” - Charlotte“There was skin on the tree.” – Lucia “It’s called bark.” - Shaan“When I was going back to the bus, I could put my safetybelt on the bus.” – HarryAnd finally:“We did some planting, eating cake was my favouritepart!” - Max

KGR Spring WalkKindergarten R very much enjoyed their Spring Walk yesterday! On theway to the park we took in our surroundings, talking about the flowerswe could see beginning to grow, the trees that hadn't grown theirleaves back yet and listened to the birdssinging. Once at the park, we were ableto have a play and finished with a biscuitsnack, before heading back to school.

Miss Retnam

KGO Spring Walk has been postponed till Thursday 22 March at 1pm.

On Thursday, all of a very excited Years 5 and 6boarded a coach bound for Hogwarts School ofWitchcraft and Wizardry. We were on our way to explorethe Harry Potter Studios! We were lucky enough to seeup close the amazing sets and costumes used duringfilming, explore the Forbidden Forest and even board thereal life Hogwarts Express on Platform 9 and ¾. Hereare two reviews from our Year 5 children:

“Yesterday morning, Years 5 and 6 went to the Harry Potter Studiosin Watford. It was a long journey (2 hours!) and we were all sortedinto the four different houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff andRavenclaw. When we go off the coach, we had a quick biscuit breakbefore making our way inside and collecting our Harry Potterpassports. Firstly, we watched a short film in the cinema and then wemade our way into the Great Hall. It was amazing! My favourite partwas the scale model of Hogwarts Castle. Did you know it was built toa 1:24 scale? It was a great day and I really enjoyed myself!”

By Alanna 5G“Yesterday, we visited the Harry Potter Studios in Watford, NorthLondon. We got to see lots of the original sets, props and costumes, which were amazing. However, my favourite part was surely Platform9 and ¾ - the Hogwarts Express was a treat! After some deliciouspacked lunches, we took a trip to Diagon Alley and after seeing somescale models and concept drawings, we departed after a wonderfulday.”

By Beatrice 5G

All that is left to say is a massive thank you to the staff whohelped to make the trip possible and worked so hard on theday. Thank you to Mr Duke for his help with organising it andthank you to Mrs Irwin, Mrs Millican, Mrs Reed, Mrs Munday,Mrs Manley and Mrs Clarke for coming on the trip with us.

Mrs Coop

A message from Mrs Coop who is running the London Marathon in April – in aid of The Brain Research Trust

I am passionate about the Brain Research Trust. The charity funds vital research into Brain Tumours,

Alzheimer's, Dementia, Epilepsy, Parkinson's, Strokes, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease, Migraine and

many more conditions. I know adults and children that are currently undergoing treatment for brain related conditions and some of my

friends and family have lost loved ones to one of the conditions listed above. Although this is my third marathon, I know it will be just

as challenging both mentally and physically as I am not a regular, natural runner. I find the training grueling (especially in the winter

months) and the marathon itself is probably the hardest thing I have ever done (and it wasn't any easier second time round).
