Break a Leg, Trojan Theatre!

Director’s Note

This year we are excited to present a show written by one of our

own Indiana natives, Cole Porter. Porter was a popular composer through the 1920s and 30s, and was drawn to musical theatre. The fact that Porter wrote both the music and lyrics of his songs set him apart from other Broadway composers of his time. Cole Porter’s Indiana heritage is only one aspect that makes this show special.

Whenever I sit down to write the director’s note I think about the core values presented in the play. I like to reflect on why I chose the play and why I personally think its message is important. For Anything Goes I decided to ask the cast and crew what they felt was important. Below are the thoughts they gathered the day of our cast and crew retreat:

Anything Goes is about...

“being yourself, being true to your heart, and true to your feelings;”

“finding true love, breaking barriers and overcoming boundaries;”

“following your heart, and embracing friendships;”

“respecting each other’s decisions;” and

“learning that sometimes things don’t go the way you want them to, but always remembering that it’s God’s plan.”

My hope is that you will recognize these themes as you watch. Perhaps your sentiments will echo those of our students. Perhaps you will generate thoughts of your own. Regardless, we hope you enjoy because, after all, Anything Goes! Director Abby Funk

About the Cast and Crew Heads

Benjamin Abbett- Junior (Carmel Middle School): Ben has been involved in You Can’t Take it With You, The Wizard of Oz, The Miracle Worker, Seussical the Musical, and The Man Who Came to Dinner. He would like to thank God, his parents, and especially his sister for encouraging him to get involved in Theatre. Elizabeth Bain- Senior (St. Gabriel): Elizabeth was on the chorus in Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz. She was on the crew for John Lennon and Me, You Can’t Take it With You, The Miracle Worker, and Seussical the Musical. She would like to thank her family, friends, and the directors. Elliott Fouse – Senior (IHM): This is Elliott’s eighth show at BCHS. He has been on crew for every show, and was head of set crew for Seussical the Musical and The Miracle Worker. He was stage manager for The Man Who Came to Dinner and was the Cook in Cinderella. He would like to thank his family, God, Angela “Coach” Peterson, and Delaney Whitlock. Brian Gamache – Junior (St. Pius X): Brian worked stage crew for The Wizard of Oz, The Miracle Worker, and Seussical the Musical. He acted as John in The Man Who Came to Dinner. He would like to thank his crew and Mr. Noble. Liz Gore – Sophomore (St. Matthew): Liz has acted as a Blind Girl in The Miracle Worker, and as a dancer in Seussical the Musical. James Hastings – Senior (IHM): This is James’ third production at BCHS. He has been involved in Seussical the Musical and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Emily Hoff – Senior (Christ the King): This is the ever-charming Emily Hoff’s sixth production at BCHS. Emily was on makeup crew for The Wizard of Oz and Seussical the Musical. She acted as Gay Wellington in You Can’t Take it With You, Aunt Ev in The Miracle Worker, and Lorianne in The Man Who Came to Dinner. He has been involved in all of the productions during his time at Chatard, with some of his favorites being You Can’t Take it With You and Seussical the Musical. Jane Ketzenberger – Freshman (St. Thomas Aquinas): Jane was involved in The Man Who Came to Dinner. She would like to thank her family, especially her brothers Adam and Aaron for always encouraging her. Teddy Sheetz – Senior (St. Thomas Aquinas): This is Teddy’s eighth production at BCHS. Teddy was on props crew for John Lennon and Me. Teddy has acted as Chorus in Cinderella, Mr. Kolenkhov in You Can’t Take it With You, the Guard of the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz, Dr. Anagnos in The Miracle Worker, the Grinch and Yertle the Turtle in Seussical the Musical, and as Mr. Stanley in The Man Who Came to Dinner. He would like to thank his family, Canada, and his amazing friends. Amelia Siler – Junior (St. Matthew): Amelia has been involved in The Wizard of Oz and The Man Who Came to Dinner.
