Prostate cancer is a malignant(cancerous) tumor (growth) thatconsists of cells from the prostate

    gland. Generally, the tumor

usually grows slowly andremains confined to the

    gland for many years.

During this time, the tumorproduces little or no

    symptoms or outward signs

    Immunoassay test underdevelopment By

Beckman Caulter (2005) The test called BPH-A (or BPSA), detects

an isoform ofprostate-specific antigen(PSA) that exists in abnormally high level

in blood of men with enlargement ofProstate Gland.

The rationale for the test is as follows: in its normalphysiological pathway, PSA passes into theseminal plasma, where it promotes sperm motility

    by dissolving the seminal coagulum.

When either BPH or prostate cancer exists, significant amounts of PSA leak from the prostate

gland into the bloodstream. The leaked PSA can befound in the blood in a form bound to serumproteins or in an unbound form, also known asfPSA
