Curnon St. of "Eyes of the Forest," which opens two-day run at the Lomita theatre Tuesday, June 3, Tom Mix, the star of the picture, was walking around with one of the finest "shiners" or black eyes, If you like that has been seen in Hollywood in ages. The man- ner in which he acquired the optical decoration handed even Tom a laugh. It was during a free-for-all fight that was staged in "Eyes of the For- est." Just before the fray Mix ad- dressed his adversaries, who included several "extras." What he said was this: "I will give ten dollars to any man who blacks my eye. I want to make this fight a real thing. Here's your hance to wade in and get some extra money." Tom got what he was looking for, and a mild-mannered young man col- lected the ten-spot. "That young fellow is mighty quick," Tom admitted; "so quick I didn't see lim coming. And he's a little fellow, too." Friday night Tom went to see the weekly bouts at a Los Angeles club. When the fighters in the final bout stepped Into' the ring Mix looked, rubbed his eyes and looked again. "No wonder I got a black eye," he mused, feeling the Injured optic. Pretty Parade At Elementary School Enjoyed An appreciative audience was pres- ent last Friday at the May festival held at the elementary school. A parade was a feature of the day, in which five groups of sally dec- orated kiddies and vehicles took part. In group one, a clown with bicycle decorated In yellow won the blue ribbon, the red ribbon was awarded a blcydfTwhlch was a mans of nas- turtiums, while the white ribbon was given the owner of a purple and white bicycle. Group two consisted of decorated vehicles other than bicycles, and the ribbons were awarded the Red Cross ambulance, the "Covered Wagon," and "Menagerie" car. Decorated doll buggies formed the third group. The black dancing girl won the blue ribbon for the prettiest costume: the red ribbon went to the glr) in pink, and the Gypsy girl won the white ribbon. t In the fifth group, most original costumes, the ribbons were awarded the Suffragette, Brownie and Palry and the Dutch Maid. Tuesday, June 3, Tom Mix, the star of the picture, was walking around with one of the finest "shiners" or black eyes, If you like that has been seen in Hollywood in ages. The man­ ner in which he acquired the optical decoration handed even Tom a laugh.

It was during a free-for-all fight that was staged in "Eyes of the For­ est." Just before the fray Mix ad­ dressed his adversaries, who included several "extras." What he said was this:

"I will give ten dollars to any man who blacks my eye. I want to make this fight a real thing. Here's your hance to wade in and get some extra

money."Tom got what he was looking for,

and a mild-mannered young man col­ lected the ten-spot.

"That young fellow is mighty quick," Tom admitted; "so quick I didn't see lim coming. And he's a little fellow, too."

Friday night Tom went to see the weekly bouts at a Los Angeles club. When the fighters in the final bout stepped Into' the ring Mix looked, rubbed his eyes and looked again.

"No wonder I got a black eye," he mused, feeling the Injured optic. "That fellow in the green tights Is the guy

ho hit me." It was Jack Joseph, well known in the middle west as a contender for the lightweight title.

Pretty Parade At Elementary

School EnjoyedAn appreciative audience was pres­

ent last Friday at the May festival held at the elementary school.

A parade was a feature of the day, in which five groups of sally dec­ orated kiddies and vehicles took part.

In group one, a clown with bicycle decorated In yellow won the blue ribbon, the red ribbon was awarded a blcydfTwhlch was a mans of nas­ turtiums, while the white ribbon was given the owner of a purple and white bicycle.

Group two consisted of decorated vehicles other than bicycles, and the ribbons were awarded the Red Cross ambulance, the "Covered Wagon," and "Menagerie" car.

Decorated doll buggies formed the third group.

The black dancing girl won the blue ribbon for the prettiest costume: the red ribbon went to the glr) in pink, and the Gypsy girl won the white ribbon. t

In the fifth group, most original costumes, the ribbons were awarded the Suffragette, Brownie and Palry and the Dutch Maid.

The parade was followed by an ex- cdlent program.
