Clear and simple presentation of Bosch Rexroth products Bosch Rexroth products are all about movement: robots for automotive construction, gripper arms for the packaging industry, wind turbine solutions, and much more. A Bosch subsidiary, Bosch Rexroth is a global specialist in industrial engineering, serving the entire drive and control segment. The current portfolio includes technologies and services relating to hydraulics, electrical drive and control systems, pneumatics, and gearbox technology. This diverse product range is available worldwide—also via the Internet. It is clearly important here that the online store should be both clearly designed and easy to use. Customers around the world should also enjoy the same access to all functions, given that online services are becoming increasingly important in the B2B environment. Global operations hampered by existence of two different store platforms An international company needs a uniform identity worldwide. Accordingly, Bosch Rexroth faced the task of combining its two parallel store systems. In Germany, the company had used Intershop Enfinity Suite 2.2 since 2004, while a different solution was deployed in all other markets. Christian Gardeike, responsible for the German e-store, explains: Customers encountered different websites and user interfaces, which was not conducive to intuitive usability and consistent branding. Also, the international system didn’t support configurable products and in Germany it wasn’t possible for Bosch Rexroth to track invoices or inquiries.” Decision made easy by existing Intershop platform To resolve these issues, Bosch Rexroth looked for a strategic e-store platform that was standardized, durable, and quick to deploy. Their choice fell on the Intershop Platform. One of the major attractions was the ability to use the existing Intershop platform at parent group, Bosch. “The big advantage for us was the huge cost saving we could achieve with the e-store by using the same hardware as Bosch. The only differences would be the specific applications. When all the legacy systems are decommissioned at the end of the project, IT costs will be slashed by a further 40 percent,” says Christian Gardeike. “A key challenge was designing the e-store functions so that content can be adapted flexibly for each individual country.” Bosch Rexroth implements consistent global online store with Intershop From pumps for China to hydraulic motors for Mexico, Bosch Rexroth exports industrial engineering pro- ducts to more than 80 countries worldwide. Previously, the company used multiple store systems to serve customers in different markets. For Intershop, the challenge was to create a single, international online store that was both easy to use and consistent in design worldwide. Global operations hampered by existence of two di erent store platforms

An international company needs a uniform identity worldwide. Accordingly, Bosch Rexroth faced the task of combining its two parallel store systems. In Germany, the company had used Intershop En nity Suite 2.2 since 2004, while a di erent solution was deployed in all other markets. Christian Gardeike, responsible for

the German e-store, explains: “Customers encountered di erent websites and user interfaces, which was not conducive to intuitive usability and consistent branding. Also, the international system didn’t support con gurable products and in Germany it wasn’t possible for Bosch Rexroth to track invoices or inquiries.”

Decision made easy by existing Intershop platform To resolve these issues, Bosch Rexroth looked for a strategic e-store platform that was standardized, durable, and quick to deploy. Their choice fell on the Intershop Platform. One of the major attractions was the ability to use the existing Intershop platform at parent group, Bosch. “The big advantage for us was the huge cost saving we could achieve with the e-store by using the same hardware as Bosch. »Thanks to the experience of the Intershop team, we now have a exible and stable system. The requirements in terms of software and technical imple-mentation must be clearly de ned in advance.

Systematic implementation of agreed objectives was essential to creating a stable, durable, and global e-store platform that meets the tough demands of Bosch Rexroth and all our customers worldwide.«

Rainer GryschkaIT manager for the e-store, Bosch Rexroth

New functions help Bosch Rexroth as well as customersDuring the first phase of the project, the developers created an e-store template for the European markets. This could then be used to integrate functionality, such as the configurator (see box) and online product catalog, into a standardized online platform. The e-store was initially tested in Germany and Italy, with the new German version going live at the start of June 2011.

The e-store now has a user-friendly interface that incorporates insights from usability studies. In addition, the new platform enables implementation of the company’s new global corporate design, while the ability to exchange data with customers electronically means order input is faster too.

Other new e-store functions make the ordering process easier and more intuitive for customers. With the old system, customers could only import XML les into the shopping cart. Now, they can also use CSV or TXT les, which makes ordering simpler. In addition to order tracking, customers can monitor the current status of their inquiries online and view past invoices, allowing them to stay informed at all times.

FAQs and helpful videos provide a fast response to questions about the e-store. A guided tour of the Bosch Rexroth e-store is also available.

Rollout planned for all regional Bosch Rexroth distributorsFor the second phase of the rollout, Bosch Rexroth is focusing on its customers in the EU, the US, and Mexico. This phase will see the concurrent CRM system replaced and taken out of service.

In the third project phase, the developers will adapt the applications for the US market (user administration, portal). Other functions are planned to simplify the buying process for customers. Finally, an assessment will be made regarding system deployment in Asia.
