Top 10 Reasons Why We Should

Care for the Environment

Page 3: Bos eco drive

You have a good side.

It’s our responsibility to care for our planet and ensure our future well-being and the generations to come.

1

It’s our responsibility to care for our planet and ensure our future well-being and that of the future generations.

Think of your wallet, improve your lifestyle.

You can do a lot for the environment while improving your lifestyle and saving some money all at the same time.

Think of our beautiful beaches.

Everyone loves a good beach. The warm white sand, clear blue waters, and pristine palm trees swaying in the light breeze.

Unfortunately, those gorgeous beaches are slowly becoming less of a reality and more of a past memory.

Smog is gross.

It smells bad. It causes untold numbers of health problems.

JUST PLAIN GROSS.

Landfills are disgusting.

Most things that are thrown into the trash are headed directly to a landfill.

If you don’t like this landfill-everywhere vision of the future, being environmentally conscious is the only way to go.

Polar bears are cute.

It’s not just our beaches and resorts that are deteriorating, it’s also the beaches and habitats of many of the world’s animals.

Do you really want your children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews growing up in a world so different from ours?

Riding bikes is fun.

Things like riding a bike, taking a walk, and otherwise using your body instead of a smog-producing device can do a lot to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s healthy and can save you some money, too.

Unnatural stuff causes cancer.

Natural products are better for the environment, and are also better for your health.

If you’ve been reading, I’m sure you’ve heard of that new study showing how _________ has been found to cause cancer.

I don’t want to go extinct.

We are using up our resources faster than we can replenish them, and that’s bad.

If we continue at the same pace we’re going at now we’ll eventually run out of fossil fuels, then trees, then clean water, then just about everything else that isn’t sustainable.

World Peace.

Since most of the world’s wars have been fought for control of natural resources, so aiming for world peace is not too much of a stretch.

If we can get to the point where we are living sustainably and technology is providing all of our resource needs, things will be a lot different.

RECYCLING

Page 14: Bos eco drive

Recycling is the process of converting (waste) materials into

new products to prevent the waste of potentially useful materials.

What is RECYCLING?

Page 15: Bos eco drive

Some facts and statistics✿ An average household uses an equivalent of 10 liters of PET bottles per week. ✿ With 20 million households in the Philippines, this is 840 million pounds of PET bottles going into landfills and waterways if we do not recycle. ✿ The average time taken by plastic bottles to decompose in a landfill is close to 700 years.

✿ Used plastic dumped into the sea kills and destroys sea life at an estimated 1,000,000 sea creatures per year.

✿ Recycling a ton of paper saves us the following: 17 trees 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space 60,000 gallons of water 225 kilowatt hours

The Process:★ The BOS Group will be divided into 4 groups. ★ Each week, collect empty containers of PET bottles and old newspapers. Aim for 10 liters of bottles and 10 inches of newspapers. More is definitely better!

★ Submit this to your BOS POC – Rob, Mia, Erika and Julie, for measurement. This should only be done on weekly basis. Your weekly collection will be tallied and can be viewed and monitored in Google Drive. Spread the word and send us your Team’s fun photos while your awesome Team works on this activity. Remember, a good habit is worth sharing.

The Process:

★ The Team with the most number of bottles and newspapers collected will be named as the winner. A pizza party awaits them.

★ At the end of the drive, the bottles and newspapers will be sold for recycling. Proceeds will be used to fund the Pizza Party.
