The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at HawthorneRoad. They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. In 1889–90 Bootlebecame founder members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing outon the football league to the blues. That season was the mostsuccessful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finalsof the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When theAlliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle becamefounder members of the new Second Division. However, despite arespectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after oneseason (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seeminglydisappeared due to financial problems.

Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic.was later formed with the new team initially playing in the LiverpoolLeagues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the LancashireCombination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootlestruggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew andfolded during the 1953–54 campaign.

In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the localleagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool CountyCombination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club revertedback to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a yearlater joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire CountyLeague, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted tothe First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of theleagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, whichBootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The clubspent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when weunfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despitefinishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool CountyCombination. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected backinto Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle wonpromotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won theChampionship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL PremierDivision Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012.

2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out withthree games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they putthat disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the firsttime in 124 years.

Game,

Hello and welcome to the Delta TaxisStadium for today’s Northwest CountiesLeague Premier Division game and wewelcome today’s opponents AlsagerTown.

After some decent results over the pastcouple of weeks we have struggled in our last two outings.

Saturday at home to Norton United we had a very poor first half, andalthough we settled second half we left ourselves with too much to do,which concluded with me getting sent off. I would like to apologise to theteam and the supporters for this.

Tuesday night saw us play another difficult game against a good AshtonAthletic side where we lost by a solitary goal. It’s hard to put a finger inwhat has changed as before these two games we shipped in 17 goals infive games.

It’s important that we get back to winning ways quickly to keep with thechasing pack and I still believe we can be up there near the end of theseason.

Thank you for all of your continued support and I hope you enjoy thegame.

Congleton Town fly the flag for our League in the FA Vase this weekend, when they hostHuntingdon Town from the United Counties Premier League at Booth Street in the ThirdRound of the competition. After a bad day at the office for our League in the last round, only Jim Vince’s side progressed through to the Third Round thanks to a comfortable 4-1win at Borrowash Victoria, and they now have the luxury of a home draw for the first timein the competition this season. It’s the first time in ten years that the Bears have reachedthe Third Round of the Vase, and as is often the case when the draw widens nationally, inHuntingdon Town they have the opportunity to take on opposition that they have neverfaced previously in a competitive game.

Huntingdon is a historic market town in Cambridgeshire, situated on the banks of theRiver Ouse, and the town's main claim to fame is that it was the birthplace in 1599 ofOliver Cromwell. Taking note of the town's links to such an eminent figure, HuntingdonTown's nickname is "The Croms" and the club badge features a silhouette of the manhimself. In the past couple of seasons Huntingdon Town have been doing their best to putthe town on the map. In season 2011-12, they were United Counties League DivisionOne Champions, and subsequently promoted to Premier Division, and in their first topflight season they finished in a creditable 4th place.

An excursion to South Cheshire for Saturday’s game represents a trip into unknownterritory for the club. It's the first time that they have reached this stage of the FA Vase, and in the years they have competed in the competition, the furthest they have evertravelled for an away game was to AFC Mansfield in the last round, who they beat after areplay. The Croms arrive in Congleton in good form, having won 13 of their 17 leaguegames so far this season, and have drawn three and lost only one, although thatimpressive record is only good enough to hold down third place in the United CountiesLeague Premier Division.

They have won their last five successive games on the bounce, the most recent win beingon Tuesday evening in a high profile and no doubt closely monitored game at SleafordTown. That match saw them concede for the first time in five matches, and defensivelytheir overall record in the league is impressive as they have conceded only 18 goals in 17games.

However, with home advantage Congleton will no doubt fancy their chances, and havingsuffered just one defeat in their last five games, in which they scored 13 goals, they arecoming into the game in decent form themselves. Congleton Town Secretary Ken Meadsummed the feeling in the home camp ahead of Saturday.

"Excitement and anticipation is on the increase at Booth Street, as we prepare for the visitof Huntingdon Town this Saturday", he said. "Huntingdon Town are having a very goodseason so far, and are setting their own record as this is the furthest they have ever beenin the competition. In the league, they have won 13 of their 17 games and have lost justthe once, and with Spalding’s expulsion from the competition, Huntingdon are the highestranked representative from the United Counties League in the FA Vase.

No previous history can be found at present about the club before the 1971/72season when Alsager FC joined the Mid Cheshire League and they finished12th in their first two seasons. Following the 1972/73 season the club changedtheir name to Alsager Town and thirteen years later they were still members ofthe Mid Cheshire League and for most of that time had competed in DivisionOne. For the start of the 1986/87 season they changed their name again, thistime to Alsager United. They finished runners up in their second season underthe United banner but for some reason they disbanded. Twelve monthselapsed before the club re-formed for the 1989/90 season as Alsager Unitedjoining the Crewe League Premier Division. After two seasons the club movedback to the Mid Cheshire League Division 2 back under the Alsager FCbanner, for the start of the 1991/92 season, They remained there until the endof the 1997/98 season when they moved to the Springbank Vending MidlandLeague. Alsager finished runners up in their first season and were promoted tothe North West Counties League Division 2 for the start of the 1999/2000season. After just two seasons they again decided to change their name backto Alsager Town. The name change proved to be lucky for them as theyfinished in the runners-up spot with promotion to Division One. They remainedin that league until the end of the 2005/06 season when they finished in thirdplace. Due to changes being made by the FA to the non-league pyramidsystem Alsager were invited to step up to the Northern Premier LeagueDivision One which they did, finishing their first season in a creditable 14thplace.

Further changes were to be made by the FA to the non league system which sawAlsager Town move side ways in to the Unibond League Division One South.Another 14th place finish was the outcome but the club fell foul to the groundgrading regulations and with required work not completed they were relegatedback to the North West Counties League Premier Division. Due this set back thetop management of the club walked out. Former chairman Peter Clegg stepped intaking control of the club . Clegg appointed former Witton Albion reserves coach,Neil Gill as manager. For two seasons Neil Gill did a good job in keeping AlsagerTown in the N.W.C.F.L Premier Division and then in early 2011 with finances tightthe players expenses budget had to be cut and then later stopped completely. Thiswas followed by the news that there were to be major changes at the club at theend of the season. Neil Gill, his assistant, the players and the committee walkedaway. Acting Chairman Mike Cross had to Act quickly and Alsagers remainingcommittee voted for change. Terry Greer the former Chairman of Biddulph Victoriawas elected to be the new Chairman. A new management team and playing staffhad to be found. Stepping into the fray were Damian Grocott and AndyOConnor they began the job of keeping Alsager Town in the N.W.C.F.L.Premier Divison. They worked hard to keep the status of the club secure whichthey did with three games in hand. For the 2011/12 season the club is looking tomove forward with a new committee which was installed at the AGM in May theiraim being to improve the club in all aspects on and off the pitch. With things goingwell off the pitch, new showers had been installed, the dressing rooms and someof the club house re-decorated. The ground in general had been given a face liftwhen on the night of the Monday 11th July a catastrophic fire destroyed the officeand part of the dressing rooms and club house, the whole building had to bedemolished due the asbestos construction. The electricity was cut off due to thedamage caused with the switch boxes etc. Following the disaster the committeehave worked tirelessly to get things in to place so that football could return to TheTown ground. The committee the N.W.C.F.L. were superb in the way they switched fixtures forThe Bullets due to their problems, 99% of their games were played away fromhome until the November. A rebuilding programme got underway and things wentwell both on and off the pitch for the 2011-12 season due to the massive help fromBAE Systems and their contractors, who helped in rebuilding the changing roomsso that football could return. At the end of the season John Brown, manager of thefirst eleven resigned as did the manager of the reserves. Chairman Terry Greersoon had replacements with former Tottenham Hotspur player Andy Turner takingover the reigns of the first team and Andy Ratcliffe Congleton Towns formerReserves Manager taking over the reserves who had just been promoted byinvitation to the Staffs County Senior League Premier Division.Terrys gang (The workers) then set about completing work around the newchanging room complex which included the interior painting. Planning permissionwas sort after to build a new club house and virtually 12 months to the day thatpermission was granted. It is now upto the Football Foundation as to whether theclub would be given the grant that they had applied for.
