Transcript of Books of Ruth and Esther published in Mexico's Tojolabal language
In November 2013 Mexico’s Tojolabal community gathered to celebrate the first
translation of Ruth & Esther in their language.
Most of the 54,000 Tojolabal live in the mountains near the Guatemalan
border.
The indigenous population in Mexico is 10 million, with 65 different ethnic
groups.
Preparing food for the celebrations.
This woman bought along her child to celebrate.
Young women and girls in beautiful dresses welcomed the many people who attended
the dedication service.
Pastor and Bible Translator, Jose Lopez Mendez, gave thanks to God
for the new translations.
Many were deeply moved and all the guests fell silent to hear a passage being read in their language.
Church representatives received a copy of their precious new Scriptures.
People of all ages, including children, were delighted to have
Ruth & Esther in their language for the first time.
This Young man started reading his
copy straight away!
The Tojolabal translation team hope to finish the New Testament this year and are working hard to
complete the rest of the Old Testament.
Please pray for the Tojolabal translation project.
