The aim of bibliometric analysis is to statistically assess scientific literature in a given field so much so

that its applicability to various disciplines is evident. This paper presents the outcomes of a

Bibliometric analysis aiming to gauge knowledge quality and productivity of UUM’s Journal of

Information and Communication Technology (JICT), a refereed journal in the field of social sciences.

Since its inception in 2002, 122 articles had been published. Of this figure, 41.4% were the works of

UUM lecturers while the remaining numbers were produced by authors from other institutions.

Diversification of contributors was also apparent with authors coming from many different countries

such as United Kingdom, New Zealand, Iran, Singapore and Jordan, just to name a few. Compositions

of author are also varied. Off all the articles analyzed, 10.7% are single authored, 30.33% dual

authorships, 37.7% tripartite contributors, and the remaining 19% has more than four authors. In terms

of institution, the five most productive are UUM (45%), UPM (11.5%), UKM (9%), UTM (8.2%), and

UiTM (7.4%). Other notable institutional contributors are MMU (5.8%), USM (5.0%), UniMAP

(3.3%), as well as UMP, IIUM, Institute Basic Science and Federal University of Technology with

2.5% contributions each. At the end of the study, concluding remarks and further research

Value co-creation is a study on consumer-firm interactions, where consumers can be actively involved

with firms in designing, developing, marketing, distributing, and (or) selling of products to personalize

their service experiences. In contrast, value co-destruction exists due to imbalance involvement

between consumers and firm in co-creating of value as a result of misuse of resources. Previous studies

have suggested while value co-creation will increase firm performance, value co-destruction will do

just the opposite of that. In the meantime, the internet of things (IoT) has becoming important topic to

study how value co-creation and co-destruction can be created. Therefore, it was expected the effects

of value co-creation and co-destruction on firm performance can be better understood with IoT.

However, study that has looked into the mediating effects of IoT in the relationships between value co-

creation and co-destruction on firm performance in a single topic is still hard to find. In line with the

research gap, this paper will be investigating the aforementioned issue by building a conceptual

framework with research propositions. This paper is proposing that IoT will positively improve the

effect of value co-creation on firm performance, while at the same time reducing the negative effect of

value co-destruction. This paper is expected to enhance our knowledge on the relationships between

value co-creation and co-destruction, improve our understanding on the effects of IoT on firm

performance, and promotes resource-based view (RBV) to complement Service-Dominant (S-D) logic

at explaining superior firm performance.

The purpose of the paper is to examine the significance of incorporating lean production (LEAN) in the

Malaysian manufacturing industry. Lean production investigated in this paper consists of eight

practices namely supplier focus, employee focus, continual improvement, customer focus, quality at

source, just-in time, flow system and technology & innovation. This study utilizes two hundred and

five manufacturing companies, selected randomly from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers

Directory. The study measures senior production or lean managers‟ perception of the lean production

practices and the level of quality performances in their companies. Grounded by the Program Theory,

this paper specifically investigates whether the implementation of lean production practices will affect

the quality performance in the organization. Pearson’s correlations exhibit significant correlations

between the eight lean practices and quality performance measures (measured by product conformance,

product performance and product reliability). The findings of the study provide a striking

demonstration of the importance of lean practices in enhancing the quality performances of the

Malaysian manufacturing companies. The result indicates that manufacturing companies will enjoy the

benefit of improving quality performance from the utilization of lean practices.

Heavy constructions are increasingly becoming more complicated, demanding increased innovative

methods, and greater technological advancement. The complexity of the industry, generally has been

described as multi-faceted and highly fragmented with significant problems such as communication

breakdown, conflicts, and disputes. The lack of organization characteristics can apparently limit the

effort of the construction industries to adopt the technology and innovation. Hence, this paper aims to

investigate to the influence of organization characteristics namely construction type, presence of trade

unions, and professional and trade association affiliation towards the construction innovation. In order

to achieve the research objectives, mail surveys have been conducted among the construction

companies in Malaysia. A total of 703 questionnaire surveys were mailed to randomly selected

contraction companies that operating in Malaysia and registered as G7 contractor with CIDB. The

number of returned usable surveys totaled 383, yielding an effective response rate of 45.52%. All

independent variables proposed have been found to be positively correlated with construction

innovation. Apart from suggesting the direction of future construction industry study, this paper is

valuable in providing insights to contractors in implementing innovative construction technologies that

can be used to devise strategic marketing plans and ultimately for enjoyment of competitive

advantages.

44 FORECASTING RESERVOIR WATER LEVEL BASED ON THE CHANGE IN RAINFALL PATTERN USING NEURAL NETWORK

Raja Nurul Mardhiah Raja Mohamad, W.H.W. Ishak

Universiti Utara Malaysia

Reservoir water level is a level of storage space for water. During heavy rainfall, water storage space

hold excessive amount of water. During less rainfall, water storage maintains the water supply for

major uses. This rain-fall pattern of changes is really had to do with gate opening decision which

usually relies upon standard operation procedure (SOP). On top of that, the upstream precipitation is

always not coinciding with the consequences and the flood downstream usually causes expensive

damages and great devastation as well. This study is focusing on analyzing the upstream rainfall data in

order to obtain the rainfall pattern and with the next coming step focusing the forecasting model using

neural network to learn the rainfall pattern. Like other issue, this study use the same technique which

are data selection, data preparation, data pre-processing and lastly Neural Network modelling. To

evaluate this study, criteria of statistics applies, which are MAE (mean absolute error) and RMSE (root

mean square error). The lower value is better. After preparing the data, Artificial Neural Network

(ANN) modelling emphasizing to learn the rainfall pattern. The result is however, shows the evaluation

of the rainfall pattern. This study is however can determined the model proposed and can be connected

for water re-rent basic leadership. Dataset with diversity of background like dataset 3 with RMSE value

0.644 achieves the best result.

45 FRAMEWORK FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SUPPLIER KANBAN SYSTEM IN A SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE INDUSTRY

P. Pirabarkaran, M.G. Hassan, Z.M. Udin,

Universiti Utara Malaysia

In the competitive environment of the automotive components industry where the survival of a

company is highly dependent on its ability to keep cost manageable and selling price low, an efficient

inventory management system will reduce the cash tied down in inventory and improve the financial

cost associated with it. This paper provides a step by step framework for small and medium scale

industries (SMI) within the automotive component industry to implement a Supplier Kanban System

(SKS) for managing and controlling the volume of stocks housed in their respective warehouse. The

main benefit to be gained from implementing the Supplier Kanban System (SKS) is the reduction of

inventory and manpower required to manage this inventory. When effectively implemented, the

company will be holding only three days inventory and the supplier will continuously replenish the

inventory to sustain a three day stock level. The three day stock level is necessary because of the

volatility of demand within the automotive industry in Malaysia and is designed to strike a balance

between keeping Just in Time (JIT) stock and overstocking. The framework is divided into three levels

and the first level evaluates a company’s suitability to implement the Supplier Kanban System, the

second level guides the company towards the preparation for the implementation and third level guides

the company on the implementation and sustainability. Each of these level has a series of steps which

has to be executes sequentially and one can move to the next level only when the current level has been

successfully implemented.
