Dear thozi,

You have elucidated well about the things utilised in homams.I have shared my thoughts about procedure of homams with you.It was mentioned that homam is most powerfull in Sadhana. Collecting bricks and arranging them instantly to perform homam is known as ‘Sthandilam’. If they build dimensionally using steps it is called Kundam. There are different types of homams.

The different types of homams are:

• Chathurasaram

• Trikonam

• Yoni

• Vruthamu

• Padmamu.

The length, breadth and height of kundam should be the same (3 steps each). We have to offer white, red and black colour ingrediants representing the three modes (qualities) satva, rajo and thamo respectively. In Kundams, Chathurasro kundam is used for all purposes. Trikonam kundam is used for eliminating enemies and graha doshas. Yoni kundam is used for Vasikarnam, Padma kundam is used for attaining wealth and prosperity, Vrutha kundam is used for attaining poetry knowledge. Simillarly to attain siddhas we need to know about the other homams and perform them. A stone or silver plate in the shape of yoni (Panavattam) should be placed at the bottom of all kundams. Using yonou yonim nakarayeth restriction we don’t need to use yoni.

In Kundams first of all we need to call Fire God and then we need to combine Fire God with the required Goddess and then start doing homam. We have to add “Swaha” to the manthra and offer the ingrediants (aahuthis). This prakriya was mentioned specially. Hence it is not explained in detail in this section. While offering aahuthis (ingrediants) if some of the ingrediants fall on other side of kundam they should not be offered into kundam again. It is mentioned in Hayagriva story of Devi Bhagavatham that because of Lord Brahma’s boon whatever aahuthis (ingrediants) offered fell outside of kundam belong to Vamri.Depending on the benefits, the ingrediants of homam will change. To attain peave we mainly use cow ghee, To achieve Vasikaran we need to use Seasame seeds, Jaggery, Seasame oil, Millets, Jeera seeds, Red flowers, Ippa flower. To achieve Sthamban we need to use Turmeric powder, yellow flowers. To avoid death evil graha we need to use black pepper seeds, mustard seeds, red chillies, salt, cow oil, Voodugu

with bountiful compliments,
