Bonelli Eagle
IntroductionBonelli Eagle or Hieraaetus fasciatus (scientific name)
belongs to Accipitridae family of the animalia kingdom who is endangered.
In Portugal, this eagle is considered rare, but in the european union it has the condition of priority conservation.
MorfologyIt has between 65 and 72 centímeters lenght, the male has
a wingspan since150 to 160cm and the female since 165 to 180cm.
Her weight can vary between1600 and 2500 grams and, in wild state, this eagle can live until 32 years.
FeedRabbits and partridges form an important diet to the
Bonelli eagles.
But the Bonelli eagle eats doves, crows, ducks and others whith equal or smaller size of the egret too.
During the summer, this eagle eats lizards too.
The Bonelli Eagle is a powerful hunter capable of kill big port birds,like storks.
HabitatIn europe, Bonelli Eagle is a caracteristical bird of the
mediterranian sights (Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croacia, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Turkey).
She prefers to live in open or semi-open drought areas. Out of the hilly zones, in the reproduction season the eagle could be found in planes and humid zones, where she can hunt.
She could be found in the east of Asia, in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turquemenistan, India, south of China and Paquistan.
Migration
The adults are sedentary, but in the winter their reach could be bigger than during the reproduction season.
The juvenils migrate in a bigger way, probably to avoid a food competition with the territorial adults.
