OOOja – hang Me Now Everyone needs a helping hand once in a while. That’s why we wanted to create a practical little helper who could assist you in different situations – an all-rounder acting like your stool, your side table, bedside table or whatever you desire when it’s not hanging from its textile leash on the wall mounted wooden dot. We chose very Nordic materials – oak, ash and high quality fabric for the leash – meaning that your Hang Me Now will get better and better the more it’s a part of your life as the faithful companion it is.

kristina kjær hansen – vilfredMy biggest inspiration behind Vilfred was my grandfather, whose name was... Yes, you guessed it. Vilfred. He had this amazing atelier where he built model ships, and it was like a small cave with pas-sion and contemplation. My wish was to create a desk with those qualities, so I came up with the idea of having a small ‘house’ on top of the table, giving a lot of space to fill it with whatever fuels your passion. Made from oak, the warm quality of the wood adds warmth to this simple design, which I like. I hope you’ll like it too.

designers’ headsCharlotte and Olaf – pli hifiMost TV stands are very hard, cold and masculine. We wanted to create something opposed to that and ended up with Pli - with its wooden retro feel and warm touch, it’s less obtrusive and more humoristic than most others. The plissé textile cover adds a bit of colour and softness while allowing your remote control signal to go through. When you look at it, we hope that the friendliness of the design will make you feel comfy and at home and maybe even put a random smile on your face.

Rikke frost – vora spejlVora means edge in Catalan, and I like the double meaning of the word in this context. Not only is it referring to the shape of this mir-ror, it’s also because I think the contrast between the cold, hard mir-ror glass and the warm and natural wood is interesting. But what’s even more interesting is all the beautiful faces it’s gonna see in every home – in a teenager’s room, hallways, bedrooms or a cosy studio apartment. I wish I could watch them all as well.

MIChaEL h. NIELsENI like adding details to my furniture that people might not even notice. Maybe not never, but ten years down the line they might go “Ooh, I never saw that before”. We’ve made a sideboard called Clear Cut with a detail just like that. It has a secret space in it for a diary or jewellery or anything else you don’t want people to know that you have. It isn’t

visible and it is so secret that it doesn’t even show up on the design drawings.

The difference between Bolia’s furniture and other pieces of furniture is that they naturally act as conversation starters in the homes that they end up in. An example is the chest of drawers, Little People, that Charlotte and I also designed.

It looks like its name and it has its own life really. Like a little, happy creature that just came to us in the design pro-cess: at first the spiky legs, then the little round body. It looks like the kind of furniture that might come to life and mess

around with my stuff in the middle of the night… I really like that thought. What do you think happens in your home when you’re asleep?

gitte salling – CaterpillarA Caterpillar has a soft body that is divided into segments, which makes it very flexible. My Caterpillar is pretty flexible too – whereas the animal transforms into a butterfly, this daybed transforms into a double sofa bed. The un-upholstered cover highlights the soft and comfortable design, and I can see it being used in both small and large rooms – either alone or with another Caterpillar friend or two.

Rikke frost – versusVersus is a classical shelf system with a colourful twist. Instead of plain and simple shelves, they’re made out of laminated wood in dif-ferent shades – and you choose where each colour goes when you collect it. The frame is made of solid oak and I’ve grown proud of the wooden hooks, as they are both functional as hangers and also a part of how the owner chooses to construct the shelf. That’s what I would call good design.

henrik Ilfeldt – Otto sættekasse If you take a look at Otto, you’ll see how he invites you to fill him up with pictures, figurines, souvenirs and memories. In Italian, ‘otto’ means ‘eight’, and besides being a number, I actually think the shape of this product resembles the shape of the word. He’s made to be hung on your wall and to display some of the items you care about the most, each of the eight wooden cabinets telling its own story – what are yours?

sebastian hertel & peter klarhoefer – berlin benchWhen we started designing the Berlin Bench, we wanted to create a hybrid between two basic furniture needs: sitting and storing. There is this traditional German bench that allows you to do both, and in a way we see this version as a modern, metropolitan interpreta-tion of a rural archetype. We know how it is living in a home where your life changes all the time, and that’s why you can add, mix and remove parts and make our Berlin Bench your own, no matter what unpredictable need you may have.

MaRIE bERRII make lots of sketches. I suck at drawing, which means that I draw a lot of really ugly sketches. But I never throw any of them away. Occasionally I take them out and look at them again. That is how Pirate came to life. I had been sketching a lot of legs

and as I revisited them, I happened to turn the sketches upside down. Suddenly they looked like pirates’ legs! And the thought of giving a wooden stool a pirate leg was just too tempting.

And if I were a piece of furniture, I would be a stool: a little round surface, three legs and 45 cm tall. It might sound like noth-ing, but a stool is incredible! I’d be used as a table, a chair, a step to help people reaching things in high places. As a stool, I

wouldn’t miss out on any experiences at all. I’d sneak into all sorts of unusual situations because I’d be functional in all of them.

A piece of furniture like that, which automatically finds its place in all kinds of scenarios, is the kind of furniture I like to design.

RIkkE fROsTIn 6th grade, in woodwork class, I made a tiny table with a drawer. I was the only one that made a piece of furniture and

it took like the whole year. It is the first thing I designed, and it lives at my sister’s house today.

One of my new designs is a sofa called Nap, and it’s inspired by Børge Mogensen’s sofa. It’s based on a very pressing need I have at the moment. I’m a new mother, and new mothers are in a desperate need of naps. Therefore, the ends of the sofa can be flipped out and lowered according to the length of your nap. Powernap – only down a little. Long nap –

all the way down. They say that naps are good for your soul, you know.

My dream is to design a classic. Not for the sake of my own ego. But something that people will actually continue to like instead of just throwing it away. In a way, I have already designed a classic. It is the woodshop table at my sister’s

house. It might be a small legacy, but designing something that outlasts me is very thought provoking.

kILIMaNjaROThere’s nothing quite like remembering to do some good every once in a while, and at Bolia we’ve decided to commit ourselves to one of the most important things in the world. Kids. These kids in particular are the kids of Kilimanjaro and we’re here to help them. It’s a story with a happy ending, that starts at the Kilimanjaro Orphanage Center. It’s a school and an orphanage. It’s a place where children from the age of 3 to 12 years, who have lost their parents, are most welcome. Situated in

Tanzania at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, it almost sounds like a grand story. And in fact it is.During a climb of Kilimanjaro in 2009, we crossed roads with the founder Edward “Teacher” Lazzaro.

He inspired us, immensely. His positive energy and commitment led us to support his amazing project, and since then, we have gladly made donations and raised money for these fantastic

The stories are many. Our main achievement has been the establishment of a large farmingproject where beautiful tomatoes, bananas, rice, carrots and potatoes are cultivated and harvested to feed

I wanted the contrast between something as hard as a diamond and then soft, natural materials to get this fuzzy and warm light shining from the inside. The lamp itself is closed with an intricate mag-net system and you can hang it as you please, whether that’s up- or downward. It’ll shine beautifully no matter what.

jesper su Rosenmeier – Eik As a child, my favourite pastime activity was building caves and huts with wooden rafts in my grandfather’s garden. I’ve tried to recreate this immediate and naive expression by choosing Nordic materials and making the design simple and still interesting – playing with rafts and leather rope as refer-ences to a hut in a forest. I hope people will have as many cosy and warm hours around it as I had in the garden as a kid.

Oooja – quadra It’s all about the contrasts when it comes to Quadra. We wanted to create a storage unit with at strong graphic expression and at the same time it should have an obvious function. We didn’t want it to be dominant size-wise and yet we wanted it to attract atten-tion. And should it be pretty or practical? We think we ended up at a place where you choose how you want to use it – as a doll-house, a bookshelf, a kitchen interior or maybe in the hallway? It’s so multifunctional that we hope it’ll spark people’s creativity.
