Pope Francis focuses on the “spirit” of the New Evangelization and describes the qualities needed by those who would take on this work. The evangelizer or mission- ary, in love, trust, prayerfulness, holiness, strength, zeal and Faith, works at building one people out of many, fos- tering unity, creating the People of God. Pope Francis wrote, “It is a wonderful thing to be God’s faithful people. We achieve fulfilment when we break down walls and our heart is filled with faces and names!” (274) Building unity doesn’t mean achieving sameness or con- formity. Unity doesn’t require that we look the same, act the same way, think and speak in the same manner. The desire for unity can at times mistakenly push us toward some kind of assimilation which can cause tension, misun- derstanding, pain and suffering. It’s interesting to note the Catechism’s description of unity. “The Church is one because of her source.” (813) “From the beginning, this one Church has been marked by great diversity which comes from both the variety of God’s gifts and the diversity of those who receive them. Within the unity of the People of God, a multiplicity of peoples and cultures is gathered together. The great richness of such diversity is not opposed to the Church’s unity.” (814) Jesus, in the power of the Spirit, is the source of the unity of the People of God. Pentecost offers us the opportunity to celebrate the “unity in diversity” of the God’s People. At the same time, Pentecost offers a challenge -in love, trust, prayerfulness, holiness, strength, zeal and Faith, the mis- sionary of the New Evangelization accepts that there is still work to be done. And so with Pope Francis, “we implore Mary’s maternal intercession that the Church may become a home for many peoples, a mother for all peoples, and that the way may be opened to the birth of a new world.” Through our ministry, may our Archdiocese become a home for many peoples, a mother for all peoples… “A heart filled with faces and names!” ¡Llenos del Espíritu! En la unidad del pueblo de Dios se reúnen los diferentes pueblos y culturas. […] La gran riqueza de esta diversidad no se opone a la unidad de la Iglesia» 814. Jesús, en el poder del Espíritu, es la fuente de la unidad del pueblo de Dios. Pentecostés nos ofrece la oportunidad de celebrar la «unidad en la diversidad» del pueblo de Dios. Al mismo tiempo, Pentecostés ofrece un reto -en amor, confianza, oración, santidad, fortaleza, celo y fe- el misionero de la Nueva Evangelización acepta que todavía hay trabajo por hacer. Y así con papa Francisco, «imploramos la intercesión maternal de María para que la Iglesia se pueda convertir en un hogar para muchos pueblos, una madre para todos los pueblos, y que pueda abrirse el camino para el nacimiento de un nuevo mundo». A través de nuestro ministerio, que nuestra Arquidiócesis pueda convertirse en un hogar para muchos pueblos, una madre para todos los pueblos... «¡Un corazón lleno de rostros y de nombres!»(274).

Group of students on May 19, 2014, their gradua on day from Church Ministry Ins tute (CMI) program. CMI is an adult forma on program imparted at Saint Charles Bor-romeo Seminary; Ministerio Eclesial is the Spanish version of CMI, offered in the parishes by the Mobile Catholic Ins -tute. It consists of three years of Church studies, ending with a cer ficate of comple on issued by St. Charles and re-ceived on gradua on day at the Seminary. We are present-ly offering this program at Our Lady of Fa ma, Bensalem (Cicle 1 & Cicle 2); Holy Innocents (Cicle 1), Saint Mar n of Tours(Cicle 3-gradua ng group), Saint Thomas Aquinas (Cicle 1 & 2) and Saint Helena (Cicle 2)- four Philadelphia parishes. The Hispanic community of the Cathedral’s Immaculate Conception Chapel, held a special celebration of the Crowning of the Virgin on May 25th, during the Sunday Spanish Mass at 12:30 p.m. The event started with a procession where the children took roses to the Virgin Mary.
